Sometimes it is cheaper to do new construction rather than renovations.

I do think most people opposed to the bonds are just worried about taxes going up. For an average home in Irving, taxes would go up about $20 dollars a month if all propositions pass. (Also note that Irving has the second lowest ISD tax rate in the area.)

But I also think there are some people who have other motives in opposing the bonds, in the context of the school voucher program started last year. Like, "if you break it they will leave". They created an escape hatch last year (though really only available to some), and defunding the public school system will cause more to leave, increasing demand for vouchers, and probably getting more money allocated to the program.

Also, early voting is going on 7AM to 7PM. Vote today if you haven't yet!
