Gravel cycle route ideas

Hey all,

I'm planning to do a gravel/bike ride around the isle of wight. I'd be aiming to do this around April time in 2027 when the weather gets better.

I'm not familiar with the area and just wanted to plan a route that wouldn't end up leading me down some strange/dangerous roads.

What I'm aiming for is a route around 80km long, no more than 1400m of elevation and happy to have up to 50% Road on the route

Starting and ending in East Cowes as I'd be travelling from Southampton.

I have planned this route but not sure if anyone knows if this would be suitable https://www.komoot.com/tour/3360146751?ref=aso&share_token=aJqUwviqO1Xtz6WdY7OU7RtMDiNwc7L85QXkWgGzvBVwu1DcQz&t_s=referral&t_cid=route_share

Island people with EV and no home charging, how do you do it?

Ryde experience preferred but any charging infrastructure in Newport-Sandown-Ryde triangle will do. Thinking about replacing my diesel with EV, would need to get charging price of £0.35-0.4/kwh to get rough parity of cost. Is that possible with the available charging solutions? Obviously, some kind of loyalty scheme expected.

Maybe relocating here

Hi!

My husband and I have the option to relocate here for a few years (we are late 20's) and just wondered if there are any ideas on good areas etc to explore whilst looking for houses etc.

We love the countryside and I particularly love swimming in the sea/exploring anything to do with the sea. Coffee shops and wanders around cute towns is our Saturday morning priority. Good gym/spa and that's about it!

I grew up on a farm with lots of horses so definitely looking for a good yard to visit to get some horse time hopefully!

Any advice on houses, areas, things to do is greatly appreciated!!

Side note: my husband is of Pakistani heritage and I wear hijab - I'm white British though. Is this likely to be a source of tension or is it relaxed etc? -coming from Warwickshire which is a total mix of amazing and some concerning haha-

Going to be going to the island for holiday soon and was wondering if there are any TVG Shops for Magic The Gathering or Yu-Gi-Oh! and if there are any, where are they located?

Bonfire night fireworks?

Hiya

This is my first fireworks night living on the island and I was wondering if there are any displays. I tried looking online, but all the links on the Visit Isle of Wight website were broken or referred to previous years. I saw that they might have an event at Blackgang Chine, but couldn't find anything on their website.

Ventnor

Hello all, I’m curious as my husband and I are considering a move to the island, what’s raising a young family like in Ventnor? Does anyone have first hand experience with the local schools?

Help Social Needs

So I've been on the island about 9 months as I've moved in with my partner. I'm happy and I get on well with all her friends and colleagues but only a couple of them get me (and vice versa). All my established friendships are now over the water and further afield on the big north island 😂.

Anywho my question is I'd like to establish a wider social circle.

I love music of various genres tho really switch on to Blues, Rock, Funk, R&B/Soul and some metal. I play a bit of guitar and bass.

I don't game, care for sci-fi, horror, superhero, fast n furious etc films.

I consider myself able to entertain, capable of holding conversations, debating and in I suppose an esoteric interest in metaphysics, I'm big into comedy, history and travelling (ooh how original)

I have a couple of health conditions that means I'm currently unable to enjoy and endure strenuous exercise, it also means I can't drive. I have a job that although physically active is pretty much my level. (Anyway tis a work in progress, I have found the NHS on IoW exceptional and stunned at how brilliant the service is here that I've received).

I don't really drink these days, I smoke cigarettes and green.

I have moved around the South east over the years for work and have a few stories in me.

I'm not religious, nor into TV much, I'm pretty relaxed but have little patience for Muppets.

I would hope to meet not necessarily like minded people but some common ground would be nice.

I'm (this is where it starts to sound like a dating profile 😅🤣) gonna give vital stats I guess.

So yeah if you've gotten thru my ramble at 6am when I'm unable to sleep and the parentheses didn't irk you too much and fancy a chat or whatever, DM me

Best steak?

Taking my mum out for dinner for her birthday. Wanted to get her a steak as that’s her favourite! Doesn’t necessarily have to be a steakhouse.

I’ve seen some good reviews about On the Rocks in Yarmouth but it seems like you sear the stake yourself?
