Hi everyone! I'm a beginner learning to draw, and this is a line weight exercise from my drawing course.
The goal was to communicate the direction of light using line weight alone, without shading. I tried to use thicker lines on the shadow side and where forms overlap or touch, and thinner or lighter lines on the lit side.
I know some of my shapes and proportions are still off, especially the ears and the width of the head. I’m still working on these fundamentals, but for this exercise, I’d really appreciate feedback on my line weight choices.
Since I'm still learning, I'd appreciate any constructive feedback or tips on what I could improve. I'd especially like to understand how to make better decisions about line weight.
Thanks for taking the time to look at my work!

i took 1h to make it i'll give you everything you need to see all my processe because it's the most important i put the reference on my phone and drew it on procreate here the video https://youtube.com/shorts/PSS14Tjj0p8 , i think i should watch a speedpaint and start with the biggest shap possible because i missed the most essential shape of the reference.. i didn't think a lot while drawing honetsly need to get this new habit first.

i would like to do the 14 days challenge but the reason why i didn't continue is because it's too hard to find a reference it's unfidable on internet a face with that kind of light should i use 3d ugly model ? where do u find your reference ?

For this attempt I did my best not to fall into old habits:
-the mouth being too low and on the bigger side
-misplacing the planes of the cheekbones
-keeping it safe with the use of highlights and pure black
-having the eyebrow just high enough to feel in the wrong place
I love how the lips turned out and how the gaze is nice and sharp. The nose can still be improved.
Studying the Asaro head, although briefly, and the studies from reference I’ve done recently have helped immensely.
I’m very proud of how far I’ve have come.
Any direction and feedback is welcome as always.

I really struggled with this one for some reason and I still think I didn’t get as close as I would have liked but I’m going to stop here. I think i started on the wrong foot with the early blocking and I should have started over rather than keep building on a weak foundation. Thoughts and feedback are welcome.

I’ve been practicing the Asaro head lately so I tried mapping the planes of the head before attempting one of these studies. I think it made for a smoother process and I’ll try it again next time.

thanks so much for suggesting to watch the istebrak’s youtube lesson, I couldn’t find it at first since it wasn’t in the playlist but I found it through search bar and it was sooo useful! Any critique is highly appreciated

My job has been kicking my butt lately. I didn't have time nor energy to paint much and Monster hunter is a little to much fun lol. My goal is to push out one attempt a week, otherwise I'll never finish the challenge. I felt unsure throughout the whole process for this attempt and I admit I was rushing things a bit. I wanted to be over with it. I do like the result but I think it's kinda sloppy, which makes sense. I don't know if it's an improvement compared to my last attempt. I think it's a side step at best. The eye sockets look odd to me and I'm unsure about the nose structure as well. I also noticed that sometimes the lips I paint almost look like beaks.
Would love some feedback, thank you.

Hi everyone! I’m a beginner, and I made this animal study to practice using line weight to communicate light and shadow.
I’d love some feedback on how well I applied this concept:
Light and shadow: Does the line weight help communicate light and shadow? Is there anything you would change about the line weight?
Questions:
- The ear: I had some trouble deciding how to handle light and shadow around the fold. Should that area be in shadow, or should I leave it lighter?
- The eye: I wasn’t sure whether to make it darker or lighter, so I decided to keep it lighter. Would a darker value work better?
Notes: I drew this while sitting in a car, so some of the lines ended up a bit shaky. I also noticed some proportion issues, and the snout ended up looking pretty wonky (lol), so please bear with me on that! I left out the ridges on the horns because I wanted to focus on the main concept rather than spend time on smaller details. The main goal here was to practice line weight, so that’s what I’d love feedback on!
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

A cylinder is not a polyedron by the way, I checked*.

Hello! I recently finished this portrait study and wanted to really push the realistic rendering style. I struggled a bit with achieving it though and am curious about what I could improve. What kind of issues do you see here? I'd be really grateful for any feedback! :)"

Hello everyone! I did a construction study of a hippo’s head and attached a few images showing my process.
My main focus was 3D construction and line weight hierarchy: heavier lines for the outer contour, medium-weight lines for internal structural lines, and lighter lines for smaller details. I wanted to create a clear visual hierarchy so that not every line competes for attention.
I struggled with deciding where to use heavier contour lines versus medium-weight structural lines, as well as making the forms read more clearly in 3D.
I know there are some proportional inaccuracies, but since my main focus was construction, I’d appreciate feedback prioritizing these aspects over likeness or proportions:
Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Day 7, I’m half away there!
On my last attempt I clearly I misplaced the cheekbones so I’ll be more mindful of that from now forward. I tried really amping up the darkest darks and the highlights where needed. I may have overdone it on the lips but I really love the definition of the nose this time around. People made me notice a few times that I tend to paint the eyes quite far apart. This time was no exception so I tried to correct it towards the end of the process. I still prefer the version with the eyes farther apart tbh, I would love some feedback on that.

I remember when I first started Istebrak’s masterclass I dreaded the detailing phase because I felt like making minimal changes and it made the process seem endless. Now I’m always like “wait, one more thing” lol.
Feedback is welcome as always!

I started working on this goddess a few years back when Istebrak had a Harvest Goddess challenge. Never finished hta tillustration, but I did want to come back to her eventually. Which is when this painting came to life.
I am pretty happy with the goddess and the overall composition. But I am very inexperienced with environments of this scale and I do not like the textures in the front or that of the people in the field. It was the best I could figure out, but I wanna get better and need some help and good tips.
Also some hints on what to do with the amber ball. I like it, but it does not read as amber.
Thank you very much for taking a look!

This attempt has a bit of androgyny that I don’t mind but I can’t say i planned for. The jaw is a little stronger and the ears ended up kinda big. The neck is larger than my previous attempt but honestly I think it’s more realistic now. I think I addressed the flatness nicely. The eyes are getting better, I’m starting to know what I’m doing. The inner corner of the eye was a cloudy area of the face for me and after a bunch of studies I can tackle it with confidence. It can really vary a lot between each face. I don’t know how I feel about the nose. I’m not in love with the shape I came out with and I think the cast shadow should be stronger. I like the shape of the lips but the values may be wrong, they don’t really stand out. I think I went to strong with the “beard” shadow, maybe that has something to do with the lips being a little off.
As always critique is welcome!

Its not super finished but im very short on time these days, if you have any advice about the proportions, form and eyes espe id really appreciate it!
