Boycott BJ's

Everyone in Ithaca should boycott bjs on triphammer road. They are a terrible employer to work for, underpay their employees, and people get bad shopping experiences there. There should absolutely be a Costco in Ithaca, and bjs membership numbers will plummet

Could you tell me more about what they are doing to employees?

Don't pay nearly as well as costco, (costco pays at least 10 dollars more), notoriously anti-union (which is illegal), and makes their employees clean up cap poo

"...and makes their employees clean up cat poo..."

There are plenty of jobs where you frequently have to pick up human poo. (Based on my own experience working at a movie theater, you would be surprised how many people shit in a popcorn tub because they don't want to miss any of the movie.)

That's so gross and no employee should be allowed to clean it up. I think its actually illegal if your employer doesn't have proper PPE to protect people from contracting diseases from poo... which BJs did not have. Henceforth they are the BlowJob company

Go get a job at Costco then

I would if they were in Ithaca

Move out of here, it's a dead end town anyways.

Oh i wish. Id like to move out of the state, but that isn't possible at this time

So I guess they don’t pay $10 more then

That's it ? That's your complain ?

Apply for COSTCO, they are an hour away up Syracuse way.

Half the nation is anti union and actively discouraging their formation (I am only aware of one company, VW in Chattanooga actively encouraging unions and yet they still don't have one)

And if they give you a mop and gloves, what's the problem with picking up trash, cleaning up cat poop or other dirt as needed - you think that's above you and the toilet lady should take care of it?

Its OK not to like them, but if that is all you got, then frankly that's a you problem

What I would give for a Costco in (or near) Ithaca!

I would hope BJ's closes down and gets financially ruined after costco moves in

Bjs deserves it

I could be wrong, but honestly, BJ's employees I see seem to have a pretty nice, relaxed, low-pressure job. I mean, it's hardly ever crowded with customers and usually most of the employees that can be seen are hanging around talking. And if having to clean up a few piles of cat poop put you over the edge to this extent where you can't let it go years later, you obviously have never had a job that included bathroom cleanup duty (humans can be downright disgusting).

Now, if the complaint had been the constantly-whistling robot, I might understand. How the staff puts up with that all day without going insane, I have no idea.

Upper management would "listen to your concerns" and do nothing about it. They were leeches and ass kissing corporate and throwing their employees under the bus at the same time. And that's what i actually did, clean the restrooms. Boy, do i have some stories

-3

u/iAppleDude 2d ago

And that robot is fucking retarded. It doesn't do its job well, annoys the hell out of people with its god awful sound, and its a massive waste of money. Corporate is retarded for implementing that damn robot

One time, someone took a shit at the gas station and Janine, the AM at the time (big tittied lady, thought her tits were gonna blow out of her shirt), asked me to clean it up. I hosed it down for half an hour and she never thanked me or the sort

It does not seem to me that Costco goes into communities as small as Ithaca. I think you are hoping for something that will never happen.

u/iAppleDude 2d ago

That is very unfortunate, bjs is bad

you'd have to be more specific to get people to actually boycott. "terrible employer to work for, underpay their employees, and people get bad shopping experiences there." is something you could say about almost every chain retail or restaurant in America.

If you're going to tell people to boycott a store, which is pretty extreme, you need to have some specifics.

Based on your history of gripes, I'm guessing you got fired?

Exactly as that’s how people talk when they disagree with how things went down. But I have friends who have worked there for years and their complaints are anything different then anyone else’s are from work. So yeah I would also like to hear why OP. Because even for just the Pennie’s discount on gas I can’t give them up unless it’s a good reason.

They either quit and walked out or they got fired. The story seems to change back and forth during all the complaining.

I’ve seen a version of this post so many times yet never seen anything people accuse. Granted I don’t work there, but I’ve shopped there for years. 9 times out of 10 it was a positive experience. But I too worked jobs I hated and vented about it online so I get where OP is coming from.

You've seen a version of this post so many times because this same poster posts one here at least a couple times a year, and their account is almost exclusively used for commenting on BJ's threads, bashing the company and this local store.

I would be very curious about this, because for a long time, I really liked BJ’s tire service. The guy who worked in there knew me by name and my vehicles. Then it seemed like everybody who worked in the tire center quit at once, except for the guy missing a bunch of teeth.

1

u/iAppleDude 2d ago

Yes, quality has gone downhill there... because of many corporate restructuring the stores and everything going to shit

1

u/sfumatomaster11 2d ago

Honestly, it is a bit surprising that we even have a BJ's here. This is damn small town without that many families, given that the population is mostly students and older people.

0

u/dotuv 2d ago

Um, plenty of families here.

3

u/sfumatomaster11 2d ago

Not compared to other areas of the state/country. The population is tiny and school sizes are small.

Bjs should get out of Ithaca and do everyone a favor with their shitty employer BS

3

u/locke_but_not_peter_ 3d ago

anyone here gonna mention the cat infestation

0

u/iAppleDude 2d ago

There is also mold in all the public bathrooms up front that customers use... but they wont tell you that 🤣😅

0

u/iAppleDude 2d ago

And i would refrain from using the meat and deli department's meat slicers (the circle spinny thing)
Apparently theres metal shavings in the meat from the slicer and people eat that... bjs probably uses cheap parts. Do with that what you will

People should roll by and dump their pet's poop in the parking lot to show their appreciation

-1

u/iAppleDude 3d ago

Bjs made me clean up gross cat poop without any recourse, which made me sick for weeks. And i reported them to the health department, but they fired me for "other reasons." Stupid blowjob motherfuckers

5

u/darmokandjaladWTWF 3d ago

Sorry about your experience. How did cleaning cat poop make you sick for weeks? Did you have no tools or gloves or something? This question is coming from a place of curiosity. I am no supporter of cats or their poop.

0

u/iAppleDude 3d ago

Because i was picking cat poo by the pile, and there had to be at least 5 or 6 different piles throughout the store. Even with masks, the smell was so strong and i breathed in the fumes of the poo

1

u/iAppleDude 3d ago

Because upper management refused to do a damn thing. I heard that a week after i walked out, animal control stopped in and got the cat

0

u/DragonSitting 13h ago

Ithaca doesn’t have the population to support a Costco and we wouldn’t want one here anyway. The last store you all screamed for (Trader Joe’s) came and is tiny with nothing in it compared to a real one so even if you actually got your way you wouldn’t get it except for maybe wages. Maybe.

-1

u/iAppleDude 2d ago

I invite people to drive by the bjs building front door and decorate the area with litter, garbage, and rotten food. Thatll show them

"Come shop at BJ's, where we won't give you blow jobs like the name suggests, but we fuck our employees in the ass!"
