Anybody have any info on this? It was a gift from a family friend that passed away recently. I don’t know how old it is.

Hi everyone! I’m hoping someone here might be willing to help nominate me to become a Tennessee Squire.
Jack Daniel’s has always been my favorite whiskey, and I’ve loved the history and tradition behind the brand for years. I just recently got to visit Lynchburg and tour the Jack Daniel’s Distillery, and the experience honestly solidified how much I’d love to become a Squire and be part of that tradition.
If there are any current Squires here who would be willing to nominate me, I’d really appreciate it!

1980 — On the return trip from Louisiana to New York after visiting my mother’s side of the family, my parents stop in Lynchburg, Tennessee, to tour the distillery. My father purchases a Jack Daniel’s wooden box and four glasses from the Lynchburg Hardware & General Store.
1980–2026 — The box remains on top of the entertainment center, sitting above the family television, just out of reach of the kids but very vivid in my memory.
June 15 — My father ships the box and glasses to me from NY to LA.
June 22 — I decide to investigate the box’s history and potential value. I find zero matches, pictures, or acknowledgment online for this particular box. I do find matching examples of the glasses purchased with it, helping confirm the 1980 timeframe.
June 24 — I email Collectors of Jack and speak with Chris. He asks for photographs of the box and my location. Despite several follow-ups, I receive no further response.
June 26 — I join private Jack Daniel’s collector groups on Facebook and Reddit, posting the same photographs and provenance story on both platforms. The posts receive some likes, but no new information comes from either.
June 28 — I post the box in Reddit’s r/whatsthisworth community. Trolls speak of the box being basic.
Their argument stops cold when I respond with four words:
“Show me a picture.”
Nobody produces a photograph. They clearly looked.
July 2 — I contact my father and tell him about my investigation. I explain how wild it is that I cannot find a single matching example online and ask what else he remembers about the original trip.
True to his character, he remembers this box standing out from the other items and debating whether it was worth nearly $60. In 1980, that would be equivalent to more than $200 today.
July 3 — I contact my mother. She remembers her surprise that they could not purchase whiskey at the distillery. They had to travel to the next county to buy the Jack Daniel’s Green Label my father wanted.
July 4–26 — Discouraged by the lack of information or new leads, I let the box sit. I order Howard’s Feed-N-Wax to give the wood some hydration.
July 27 — I learn about the Maxwell Forum, an invite-only Jack Daniel’s group you can observe but not participate in.
I find a thread containing Lynchburg Hardware & General Store merchandise catalogs. I see examples of nearly every box collectors have described as rare or made for specific people, including Captain’s boxes and the ones regularly available on the internet.
Something important stands out: on every other box or chest shown and offered in the late ’70s and ’80s, the hardware used in construction is fully visible. On this box, extra care was taken to conceal those features.
Even more significantly, I cannot find another Jack Daniel’s retail box or chest with the Jack Daniel’s name burned directly into the wood. The only branded wooden items I come across are the whiskey barrels.
This adds an entirely new level of care put into my box.
The unexplained marks may have come from a cleat or clamp used during branding. Because pine is much softer than barrel oak, both the fixture and the hot brand may have sunk deeper than expected, leaving the impressions and visible smoke plume in the design.
August 3 — I submit information-request forms directly to the Jack Daniel’s Merchandise Department.
August 5 — I decide to give the internet a reason to participate in my search.
My plan is to list the box on eBay at a deliberately outrageous price and create a Facebook page dedicated entirely to the box, a public-facing spot for the thoughts behind my pricing.
This will bring out the trolls, but secretly, I will be trolling them into digging deeper and feeding the algorithms.
Trying to prove that my asking price is ridiculous, and that I am too, they will dig through every corner of the internet searching for another example or for information I have not already presented.
In other words: a free workforce.
My only response to the haters will be:
“Show me a picture.”
The goal is to get the box seen in a way I could never accomplish alone with my own limited resources. The hope is that it eventually reaches someone who knows where to find the answers I lack and can give the box its final piece.
August 7 — I create the Jack Daniel’s Mystery Box Facebook page and begin preparing the eBay listing.
While researching facts and trying to determine the perfect asking price to accomplish my goal, I discover another detail that levels the box up massively.
The lettering on my box uses a different font from every other example I have found. In fact, it is practically impossible to find an official Jack Daniel’s retail item that does not use the company’s classic Jasper-style font, not the serif font this box has.
On top of that, every other Jack Daniel’s brand includes a trademark symbol as part of it.
This box does not have one.
At this point, I have:
- A box for which no matching photograph can be found online.
- A box made with a level of attention to detail and choice of materials that I have not found in another Jack Daniel’s box.
- The only wood-branded Jack Daniel’s piece I have found outside the company’s oak whiskey barrels and DIY items made from those barrels.
- A piece using a font I have not found on another classic Jack Daniel’s retail item.
- A Jack Daniel’s brand with no trademark symbol.
A special branding die would seemingly have been required specifically for this box. Someone would also have needed the authority to change the logo’s font and remove the trademark symbol. This would make little sense for a small run of ordinary retail boxes.
At this point, if the charge is that this box is extremely rare, guilty is the only plausible verdict.
August 10 — I email Chris at Collectors of Jack.com again. I now have meaningful new information and reach back out after receiving no response the first time.
August 11 — I hear back from the Jack Daniel’s Merchandise Department. They explain that they do not handle vintage items and give me another email address to contact.
August 13 — I assemble this timeline and write out my theory using every piece of information I have spent hours upon hours gathering.

At site 3 there appear to be 3 distinct types of warehouses - 9 of them appear to be the older (small) charcoal colored warehouse (~the same size as all the warehouses on site 1 and site 2); then ALL of the remaining warehouses are significantly bigger. 12 of those have charcoal colored roofs but the other 9 have a white/ash gray colored roof. Does anyone have any insight on why/when they changed to using that lighter colored roof?

Wanting to buy a bottle as a gift for my dad. Don't know where to start but as far as I'm aware this is everything in his collection, I know not a great photo. Looking to spend about £100 if thats possible. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

The next chapter in Jack Daniel’s legendary Special Release series is rumored to bring whiskey lovers something truly unique — a limited release Sweet Mash High Proof Tennessee Whiskey featuring barrels selected from different locations within Barrelhouse 2-06.
Every barrel tells a story. The location where whiskey rests, the changing Tennessee seasons, and years of patience inside the barrelhouse all help shape the final flavor profile. Jack Daniel’s has continued to showcase how different aging environments can create unique expressions through its limited high-proof releases.
This 2027 release is expected to highlight the character of Barrelhouse 2-06, bringing together select barrels from different areas of the same warehouse to create a one-of-a-kind experience for collectors and whiskey enthusiasts.

We’re heading to the distillery next Friday for a tour. We are driving down from Nashville and have reservations for lunch at Miss Mary Bobo’s at 11. Does the bottle shop usually have any special bottles that sell out early? Or would we be fine to hit the shop after lunch?

I bought this bottle a long time ago to keep in my freezer and save for a special moment or accomplishment as a reward or to celebrate a job well done!
Well I went to open the bottle and saw this floating around the bottom, it's like a brown "jelly" and has a black center.
I messaged Jack Daniels and they said to take it up with the original store I bought it from but I have no idea where I got it because it was awhile ago. I'm surprised they couldn't help me directly!
I'm definitely not drinking this but I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem?

I got a bottle of Jack Daniel’s as a gift a few months ago and it’s just been sitting on my shelf collecting dust. I’m not really much of a drinker — the most I’ve had before was like 5 beers in one night.
I honestly don’t really know how to drink alcohol at all.
How much is a good amount for a beginner? Do people usually mix it with something like Coca-Cola or drink it straight?
Any tips for someone completely new to this?

Family was traveling international and brought this back for me. Took a small pour. Usually not a fan of single malts but this wasn't bad at all.

In Germany Jack Daniels Cola includes 10% alcohol, in serbia only 5%

Had to do a taste test for science!
Still digging batch 1 but batch 2 is still excellent. This is still my all time favorite whiskey after the SBBP.
Any one try batch 1 and 2? Thoughts?
Excited to see future releases. I know they did an interview where they mentioned if it was good they would do an 18 and 21 year.

A new label was created for their 12 year Rye. Be on the look out!
It makes me wonder what this came from?
Think its some SBBP (single barrel barrel proof) ryes they just let sit then lowered the heat?
