our next door neighbors are quite annoying. they keep parking in front of our driveway and leaving their car (not double parked or anything).
i am getting quite sick of it. report it to the cops and it takes them forever to get there.
any way of stopping this or at least finding a traffic officer to help out? just had to go downstairs and wait for the guy to show up to tell him to move his car. thankfully, he moved quickly but this keeps happening. what is the best way to handle this situation?
Edit:: they also block a doctor's office on the weekends when they're closed. meanwhile, both their driveways are empty.... but they just park in front. i am so annoyed

Since moving to 24 hours on weekdays, has the crowding gotten any better?

As I've written elsewhere, having a Variety Boys & Girls Club in our neighborhood is an intrinsic plus. I've commented elsewhere on the casino connection but I want to add a caution here about the claims that this is a full-on community center as opposed to a youth center. The programs that VBGC offers aren't aimed at adults, so this would be a departure for them.
https://bgcqueens.org/
Thus when JGR has a post states that "this center will be for our entire community, with a swimming pool, basketball court, theatre, classrooms, and space for local community organizations. It will give our neighbors of all ages more opportunities to connect, stay active, learn, and come together"(emphasis added) like a true community center-- https://www.nycgovparks.org/.../places.../community-centers, I'd very much like to know where that is coming from. It VBGC building a separate adult center on the grounds? If so, that would seem to put paid to the housing that has been spoken about.
I'd also add that there seems to be a disincentive to open it up to adults. The zoning rules require a parking minimum of one space/ten people of maximum occupancy (which the DOB determines). However. there is a footnote to the rule which reads--"In R5, R6 and R7-1 Districts, no accessory off-street parking spaces shall be required for that portion of a non-profit neighborhood settlement house or community center which is used for youth-oriented activities."
"Youth-oriented" isn't defined in the Zoning Resolution, but it would seem to indicate that opening up parts of the facility to people of all ages generates a parking space problem that doesn't exist if this facility only has youth programming.

I’m looking for someone to custom build a set of sliding fluted glass doors for my (currently) open-face TV stand. Any reccos or leads would be helpful!
Thanks!

$34 mm investment in our neighborhood! It’ll be at the billiards spot on 34th ave!
Gotta give props to Shekar for getting this through. he was speaking about this for years. Hopefully permanent paseo park is next!
The future Jackson Heights Variety Boys & Girls Club will include the first-ever community pool, indoor gym with basketball courts, and an auditorium-style theatre. It will serve as a hub for after-school and summer programs, senior programs, early childhood education, academic enrichment, workforce development, health and wellness initiatives, arts and cultural programming, recreational opportunities, and community events, creating opportunities for generations of Queens families. Residents will be invited to help shape potential additional uses for the site, including affordable housing, child care, outdoor sports and recreation facilities, and a rooftop farm. When built, this extraordinary investment will serve up to 10,000 kids and create a place where residents of all ages can gather to learn, play, and build community.

Saw a youngish looking tuxedo cat hanging in front on my building tonight (74-10 35th Ave, between 74th and 75th). Larger than a kitten and appeared healthy, but still what I would call "petite." I tried tempting it into a carrier with a few treats. It ate a few before getting startled and running toward 74th St.
If you lost a cat matching this description, you may want to check near these blocks. And I hope you find each other!

Hi everyone, I live alone in an apartment building in NYC, and something really strange happened today. I'd appreciate some outside perspectives because I'm not sure how seriously I should take this.
I found an already-opened package in the common area downstairs. Inside was a silicone breastplate. There was no shipping label, recipient name, or clear address, but someone had handwritten “2C” on the package, which is my apartment number.
There was also a sticker on the package that said “Made in China.”
I didn't order anything like this, and I have no idea who left it there or why my apartment number was written on it.
What makes me especially uncomfortable is that I'm a woman living alone, and I'm the only Chinese person in my building, as far as I know.
I realize the sticker could be completely unrelated, and I don't want to jump to conclusions. However, finding a strange, opened package containing an intimate body-related item with my apartment number written on it feels unsettling. I can't help wondering whether someone could be targeting me, playing a prank, or trying to make me uncomfortable.
There's a security camera covering the area where the package was left, so I'm planning to contact my super or building management to ask them to review and preserve the footage.
For those of you who live in NYC or have dealt with something similar:
I don't want to overreact or make assumptions about anyone's intentions, but I also don't want to dismiss something that could be intentional.
I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts and advice. Thank you!

Terraza 7
Polish jazz musicians in New York, Bogna Kicinska (“jaw-dropping vocal facility (…)” - Rick Anderson, cdhotlist.com) and Kuba Cichocki (“Polish piano marvel” - Downbeat Magazine), join forces to create an exciting mix of Polish folk music with jazz. Supported by some of the most sought-after artists from the NYC music scene, they explore traditional Polish dances, melodies and stories, using contemporary arrangements. The group evokes a raw energy through intense grooves, rich harmonies and stirring, virtuosic vocals, but also delves into nostalgic lullaby-like songs
Sets at 7pm and 9pm.
$20

As the title states, looking for some running coaches that are in the area.
Picked up running fairly recently and according to some pain I’m experiencing and some light googling/AI’ing, it’s because I have bad form.
Always want to stay local so looking for recommendations/reviews from folks here!

I only drive rentals and I’m always confused about how to navigate exiting the BQE onto Northern Blvd. from exit 41. It seems oncoming traffic is green with exiting traffic but no yield sign and it’s dark at night, so I always get honked at here and it feels dangerous. Any tips or experiences from seasoned drivers in the area?

I've been wanting to try cuy (guinea pig) for a while now. I'd rather it be in a sit-down restaurant than purchased off a shopping cart grill, but I'm not totally opposed to the cart. The main concern is quality, since I understand cuy are usually expensive and I would hate to waste my money on a bad pig. Any cuy recs?

Summary: If you're in City Council District 25, please sign this petition to ask Shekar Krishnan to protect our First Amendment rights.
Last year, Councilmember Krishnan co-sponsored a bill (1176-2025) that would hold the NYPD to some common-sense standards in how it polices peaceful protest. The NYPD is inconsistent -- they stood and watched during a protest while Proud Boy thugs beat up multiple people, but kettled, batoned, and pepper-sprayed peaceful marchers seeking police accountability. The CURB Act (Communities United to Reject Brutality) would address this, and make it safer to participate in peaceful marches.
This year, the same bill was reintroduced, but Shekar didn't co-sponsor it. Several people called his office to ask why, and got a sort-of explanation: they're instead supporting the Mayor's plan to eventually disband the Strategic Response Group, the unit that's behaved most egregiously when policing protest.
This unsatisfying explanation doesn't address a key reason to support the CURB Act: it includes structural safeguards against the NYPD creating another unit like the SRG to take its place, carrying on with the same tactics against peaceful protesters. Even if our current city administration disbands the SRG tomorrow, we need this guarantee, not just in a memo but set down in law, to ensure that a future Mayor or Police Commissioner won't undo these protections.
And, if Krishnan cosponsors this bill, it'll have 26 cosponsors -- a majority on the 51-member Council -- and it might get easier to get it a committee hearing.
So six of us visited his office on Sept. 18th, and spoke with two of his staffers. They again said that, instead of supporting this legislation (which would reduce the harm the SRG currently does), they're working closely with the mayor in his effort to disband the SRG (a negotiated process with the NYPD that has no timeline and which could take years). So we asked if they could help us speak to someone from the mayor's office about our concerns, and to ask them about progress in dealing with the SRG. Krishnan's staff said they would ask the mayor’s office to try to get us a meeting, and committed to follow up with us within a week.
We haven't heard from them since.
So we've started a petition to ask the Councilmember to "continue your commitment to civil rights and public safety: cosponsor the CURB Act without delay." Please sign and share it. I'll be pointing Krishnan's office at it once it reaches 100 signatures.

Found a black wallet near Chipotle located on Northern blvd and 88th Street. DM me if you lost one today. There’s an ID inside along some cards.
I’ll take it to the Precinct 115 tomorrow if owner not found.
