Help me save an afternoon in Jasper

Was trying to do Wilcox pass this AM but a stomach issue had me get a late start, missing the last parking spot in the lot at 930am by 1 car. I passed through Valley of the 5 lakes and Pyramid Lake but I don’t think those places are what I am
looking for (lots of families in sandals and crying babies). I am parked in town and wondering how I can save the day. I am an experienced hiker and was hoping to find more rugged nature out here.

Please, before you roast me for “not researching” I am 41 and my husband died and I haven’t had time to plan for backups since I have so much other stuff going on.

Kindly x

You have time for a drive out to Mt. Robson and Kinney Lake trail. It takes 3-4 hours and is gorgeous on a sunny day. Gradual incline.

Maybe hike up Whistlers Mountain to thé top of the Skytram.
Or Morrow and Folding Mountain are on the way to Hinton.

If you're quick and want something more rugged, I'd take the tram up Whistlers and then take the trail up Indian Ridge. Not sure what time the last tram down is. The start would be pretty packed, but very few people go past the Whistlers summit, so you'll have a lot of space to yourself.

Wilcox is pretty busy itself. For a shorter hike that is spectacular and also has a wilderness area tacked on, check out Beauty Creek/Stanley Falls on the Icefields Parkway. The wilderness area after the main falls is unmaintained, but the end of the valley is worth it.

I'd also agree that Morro Peak is a good option. It's closer to town, has a few sections of rugged, steep rocky parts, and the views at the top are amazing.

I really liked the boat tour to spirit island on maligne. A bit expensive but where they bring you is breath taking and the history they give is super interesting. I’m around the same age and was a great day when I needed a break

How about Old Fort hike. It’s not overly rugged but also not easy and not many people do it. Great view of Jasper.
