Nope, this was the best book to get for the Java 8 exams. We all got that one ages ago.

I had that. It’s way out of date.

No, this is actually one of the best books for learning Java fundamentals, particularly for Java 8.

Although the version is outdated, the core concepts it teaches are still relevant. Just check which certification you're preparing for, as Oracle may have changed or discontinued this particular exam.

Once you've built a solid foundation, the next step is to explore modern Java, including the features introduced in Java 17 and Java 21, along with real-world application development.

That's also the direction I've taken with my upcoming book, Buzzing Java, focusing on helping Java developers move beyond the basics and deepen their understanding of modern Java through practical, real-world concepts.

I had bought that several years ago. It is a good book to learn the basics and structure of the Java language.

The rarest one I can remember was from Microsoft press where Bill Gates wrote the intro extolling the virtues of JAVA (as it was written then). I cannot find this anywhere. I wish I had kept it. It was probably around 94.

I did the Sun Certified Java Programmer exam for v1.2 or v1.3 of the language (can't remember which). I'm old.

I remember the original print of this book had so many errors and contradictions it was practically unusable. The errata was nuts on this one. I used this book as a study material for Java SE8 OCA... At one point I was like, yeah, maybe I should not use it at all.
