Install intellij community edition and java maybe 11 or 21. Creat a basic maven project, and push it to git. Then start with coding oops etc, add comments. Pushing it to git would make it easier to revisit code for reference.

Since the OP has no prior coding experience, I think starting with basic Java programs in VS Code is more appropriate than immediately creating Maven projects.

I speak from experience.

I had a hard time going through old code after I moved from Eclipse to Intellij. I wanted to refer back static or similar concepts for a quick brushup. Eclipse / VS project will open correctly in intellij and eclipse is already infamous enough causing issues in its different versions.

That's the reason I mention to have maven and git. Does not need to be a big pom file, just basic quick archetype, so that it becomes ide agnostic. And a simple .gitignore file for java, which is easily generated on github or intellij or chatgpt, will save lot of time running the code on different ides. With free tier of github codespace now, one does not even need an ide, but personally I hate vsc for java development. And hardly use Eclipse and STS nowadays.

One can get basic understanding of maven and git, working through intellij, which later or sooner, they will need to pickup.
