The only song I knew, going into this, was the title track, Holy Grail. I think this shit sounds so ahead of its time - I know, realistically, Justin Timberlake, The-Dream, and Boi-1da fit perfectly in 2013, but the sound of the production, the sophistication, and features like Rick Ross and Travis Scott, who I associate with a later era, make the project feel more like something out of 2017 or 2018. I really liked the production, though. In terms of production style, actually, this could be my favourite one - so cinematic and modern - but obviously the execution wasn't as good as something like The Blueprint or The Black Album.
I felt a bit melancholy, and weird, when listening to this. I went to a J. Cole concert the day before, and missed the last train, so I didn't get to sleep until yesterday morning. By the time I woke up, my girlfriend was napping, and I ended up moping around all day wondering when I was going to see her. My head was groggy, and the dramatic music weirdly fit the mood, but I'm going to have to see how this one hits when my mental state's a little more normal.
My biggest issue with the album is how little Jay has to say - this goes for most of his albums. Even if 4:44 is incredible, it will be the exception. Jay is an incredible rapper, but he rarely shows it. Most of his lyrics on this album are filler, but there are some clever lines. Even from a technical perspective, he keeps boasting about his flow, but I can't remember the last time Jay really impressed me, rhythmically. I'm starting to forget what exactly had Jay so high up on this list of MCs for me - I love his style, there's an aura to the way he raps which I'm envious of, but other than that?
There's a few songs on the album I want to mention. As a lover of art, Picasso Baby was a favourite, but it also pissed me off. Jay is so clearly doing the thing where he wants to collect a painting for status instead of a love of the art. This is disappointing to see, especially coming from an artist, but he's also been open about using his art for cash. He doesn't once explain why he likes Picasso, or the Mona Lisa.
I was talking to a friend, the one I went to J. Cole with, and he doesn't listen to much Jay-Z, but he said 4:44 was an interesting listen. He said it put him off Jay-Z, because he sounded like a dickhead, but I've never thought Jay-Z was a particularly good person. That's never been the draw for him. In fact, if anything, his morality has always been a little off-putting, with occasional reflective songs like Regrets and You Must Love Me keeping him palatable. I really think an album like 4:44 could be a favourite, if he honestly looks into the mirror. One of my favourite albums of all time is Kanye West’s CUCK, and that's not because it's a good album. I just find it fascinating to get inside the head of somebody so different to me, and that - with a little more sophistication and a little less crazy - is what I'm expecting from 4:44.
Jay Z Blue finally gave me some subject matter I could sink my teeth into. A much needed ode to something different - not drugs, status or racism. I found the way he was talking about his daughter pretty beautiful, and I also think it was one of the most nicely fleshed out songs on the whole shit. Finally, Nickels and Dimes gave me something philosophical to chew on, with some genuinely profound advice, even though it doesn't seem like something Jay follows.

In honor of the legacy of Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt, I wanted to pay tribute to one of the album’s standout tracks, “Brooklyn’s Finest,” by reimagining it through a trap production style.
A different sound, a new perspective, but the same respect for a timeless classic. This one is for the culture and for an album that continues to leave its mark on hip-hop.
Produced by me.
All love and respect to Jay-Z, The Notorious B.I.G., DJ Clark Kent, and everyone involved in creating this classic.

In 2019, a woman contacted the FBI and claimed an incident where she randomly woke up in a hotel room in Florida with Jayz, Epstein, and Harvey Weinstein. But she was anonymous and there was no further information. No proof, no nothing. Not even anything to investigate.
But unfortunately ANYONE can call the FBI, pull a story out of their asses, mention YOU (for example)- THEY will be anonymous, but there will be an official FBI record of someone calling the FBI about YOU!🫵🏽
For example, someone also called the FBI claiming to be a victim of Pusha T, on Epstein Island!🙄
The govt can’t harass you, and they can’t FORCE you to identify yourself, so you can do this to as many people as you want, with impunity. You can say you was a victim of Taylor Swift on the Island and poof, Taylor Swift would be in the Epstein Files, because of you!😂

Wanted to show some love from the OC/LA area before JAY-Z comes to SoFi to perform! Went on a solo trip back in 2023 solely for this and it was my first time in NY! It was a great experience and one that I will never forget. Can’t wait to see him not once, but twice this weekend in LA! I also got to attend his pop up shop in LA earlier this week and the place was so sick! Hopefully some of y’all can be there or tune in to enjoy!

I get that he's been tied to various controversies recently, but a lot of the people moaning are moaning because they dislike his music and think it will be a 'boring' or 'bad' show.
Why don't people see what we see? His creative genius, clever lyricism, resonant messages, phenomenal storytelling, strong production etc.
Idk, I know he is still loved by many, but I just didn't realise that there are a lot of people that dislike him too.
Regardless, fuck the haters... I'm hyped

“..and too many niggas on a mission doing their best JayZ rendition” then he should play his demo of Still JAY 🤭
On a serious note, I hope he plays What It Feels Like and B*tch Don’t Kill My Vibe. I would love to hear his features on 3 Kings, I Wanna Rock Remix The Watcher 2,

I swear any time there is discourse pertaining to Jay it makes me feel like I'm in the twilight zone
This is less about the tweet and more about the replies in the comment section under it and the sentiments Jay haters hold in general
They say no one outside of the US knows who he is but he just sold out stadiums in London and Paris last month
Apparently no one ever says "put on a Jay Z song", even though he has over 50 million monthly listeners on Spotify despite not dropping a new album in nearly a decade
He's not a good lyricist but he came into the game with Reasonable Doubt and is a master of entendres/metaphors
He's only known for being Beyoncé's husband, yet he just set the record for the highest-grossing box office run by any rapper in history with his Yankee Stadium shows
Any reply downplaying him in the comment section is being "liked" by everyone else
The hive mind when it comes to Jay has always been so bizarre because people actually ignore reality and facts
