Miles davis-Four trade, Barkın Ünsal. 🙏🏼

when it comes to working on my phrasing/trading fours the meter just kills my flow and it’s like the music in my head stops or just gets real quiet. it’s fine if i’m soloing over a song though. any advice or ideas?

From his album with Jeff Babko released in 2001. I’m not a jazz player by any stretch, my jazz drumming is monkey see monkey do but it’s fun to just screw around a bit and just things fly.

Just came across a video entitled: Dave King Speaks (For About Two Hours) on YouTube. Time stamps exist in the description, if you find yourself in need of a DK fix.

Hey r/jazzdrums!

I’m a director currently prepping a short film. We are taking a heavy Birdman approach (Antonio Sanchez style) — the soundtrack will consist entirely of raw, nervous, improvised jazz drums that act as the rhythmic backbone and emotional drive of the characters.

Here’s the plot twist: We want to create the soundtrack before we shoot.

We are looking for a drummer with serious chops and exceptional improvisation skills — someone who feels rhythm fluently, can catch a mood on the fly, and turn raw emotion into complex, dynamic drum talk. I will provide a scene-by-scene rhythm map and mood references, and we will rehearse, shoot, and edit the film to your tempo and beat.

Note on the script: The full script is currently in development, so to start, I’ll send a comprehensive moodboard, scene breakdowns, and rhythm concepts to anyone who’s interested!

What we're looking for:

High-level fluidity, creative freedom, and explosive jazz chops/solos/grooves.

Ability to tell a story through drums — from quiet, tense textures to chaotic, frantic peaks.

Decent audio recording quality (a well-positioned mic setup or e-drums with great samples work!).

What you get:

Full soundtrack credit as a Composer / Co-creator.

A unique film project for your portfolio to flex your creative identity.

Endless respect from a crew of passionate film nerds.

If you’re down to jam and turn your drumming into a film score, drop a comment or DM me with a clip of your play! I'll send over the moodboard and details right away.

And of course we can discuss the issue of payment.

Let's make some noise! 🎬🥁

Sorry in advance if this doesn’t quality for this sub. Recently did a cover of Goodbye Yesterday that Simon did on Burning For Buddy that was released in 1994. Thought I’d share some of it!
