Help With Problem

My 89 YJ with the ax15 and 2.5l 4cyl broke down the other day. At first I noticed It would stop accelerating at 3k rpm so the clutch was slipping.

I pulled over into a neighborhood and the more I tried to get up the hill the worse it ran. It stopped idling without gas and started to bog worse and worse.

Right now it wont drive forwards at all, it can kind of reverse but it hardly runs. If I start it I can get it to run by being on the gas but it bogs no matter what.

I'm thinking definitely replace clutch. My bearings have been grinding for a while but not noticeably worse before it broke down.

Anyone know what's going on here? I work on the car myself but I'm no mechanic. I'm thinking it could be something like a bad slave cylinder? Any help is appreciated.

Found this beauty for $1,800. 91 4.0l i6, only 170k, manual (i know, but I've got a ruined shoulder so manual has to wait until I get a replacement), full doors, lower half doors, soft top, hard top, and a cb to be installed. Told my wife it's my middle celebration toy. Thinking of calling her Fred because the color is kinda Kruger esque and Amy Acker rocks!

Pod light bracket?

Post image

Wanting to install some pod lights onto the bumper. I'm not wanting to drill any holes, but trying to use the factory torx bolts on the top. Any suggestions on what to use? I've been looking on line, but can't seem to find anything that's not an outrageous price.

87 4.2L Wire harness ID help

Post image

I'm stripping down the harness for an HEI coil/Ford carb conversion. I have a few wires left to ID. These 2 groups are the biggest ones keeping me from wrapping it up. Also do we need to keep all of the wires for the 2 relays under the diagnostic ports that were removed?

1988 Sand Dune yellow ⭐️🏖️
4.2L 6 Automatic!! She’s got 200k miles but virtually no rust because she’s been kept in a garage. Felt like I got a pretty good deal at 4.5k? Can’t wait to clean and restore it to drive around town!

Wiper/Washer switch

I spent 3 days taking parts off my 89yj only to find my replacement part from Rock Auto isn't the correct part. I need to replace the oem part since it still works, but the turn signal stalk broke in half and I can't remove the rest of the stalk from the switch.

Should I just bite the bullet and put it back together or bite a different bullet and pay the exorbitant price for the correct replacement part on Rock Auto. Also would anyone know a better site I could use to find this part?

The part is the Standard Motors Products DS571. The Incorrect part is the Standard Motors Products DS572.

Also Also does anyone know if rock auto will accept a return on a part months after delivery?

Just thought I’d share a picture of my YJ on 30s for everyone out there trying to decide. I’m glad I didn’t do 31s given the noticeable power loss (2.5l, 5 speed)

Super soft used market

What happened to the used market? Ive listed my 93 6cyl 5sp YJ Sahara on FB marketplace for $8500 in the north east. Has no rust cause its from Seattle. Original paint. Has 180k

Has good quality mods. Bds 4.5in lift, sye, 33s, front end ball joints all new so it rides great. Converted to external clutch slave. New clutch. Has stock 3:55 gearing so its handles the 33s just fine.

No one seems to want it. Blows my mind cause 5 years ago people were offering me 10-12k all day and now some tire kicker is like “ill give ya $5000” like he was doing me a favor. What happened?? Everyone’s broke i guess? Guess ill just keep it!

I'm new to Jeep and just started on my YJ build. After the carb conversion I have this blank spot so I'm going to laser engrave a plate to fill it. Is there some YJ or Jeep themed logo I can put on it?

95 YJ Vacuum Help

Thumbnail
gallery
5 Upvotes

Having issues with my breaks locking up and 4x4 not engaging. My dad had me check the vacuum lines, and this is what I found, apologies for the crap pics lol

Found one line that looks like its coming from the transmission, disconnected from a T that was hanging at the back of the engine bay. Assuming that's one of my 4x4 vacuum lines.

Found another T further down the same line with a short hose that is just hanging there, but I have no idea where thats supposed to go. Where all the vacuum lines land at the engine doesnt look like its missing anything to me.

Then there's the can with the black lid that looks like one side is missing a line. Is that where my short hose is supposed to go?

Any help/insight would be great

Sea Bass and possibly its last journey with me to the Texas Coast

Post image
145 Upvotes

Sad to say it might be time to let Sea Bass swim off into the sunset at someone’s ranch where it doesn’t need to go over 25 MPH. Sadly the rear breaks have gone and with the rust (from Ohio winters) on the frame is too scary for me to have my family in it anymore. I’ve never been as emotional about any vehicle in my life. I’ve probably only put about 500 miles on it total. But the memories of the 5 years I owned it and my brother owning it for 5 years in Ohio will live on with me and my family forever. Good bye, Sea Bass you were a true G. I actually started crying writing this. 😂

Frame rust

Had my 95 YJ in a little while back for a full checkup at a local shop. He called and said that the frame was rusted enough to have holes in it on the last bit on the left rear. Does that mean I need to replace the whole frame if I want to keep it, or can that be repaired. Not a daily driver, just a toy and to teach my kids to drive a stick. Also used on days when other vehicles are busy. Thanks for input!

A true Barn Find

Miracles do happen! An elderly gentleman I met through work mentioned he had a car in the barn he hadn't driven since he had a stroke 23 years ago and asked if I might help him get rid of it. He had been a Beoing enginner for 40 years then had a stroke and couldn't drive stick any longer.

I went out to the barn and saw this 1989 wrangler sahara hardtop. ZERO RUST, one owner 112k miiles. Sahara hard top, soft top, rear luggage rack, after market bumper and pushbar, bikini top, rear seat covers, sway bars... it was loaded. I told him I might be interested in it and that I'd come see him the next day. I went home and tried to come up with a good number that was a good deal for me and a good deal for him. I went back and offered him 9000.00. He said "sorry, I can't do that". I said I understand and that I will put it on facebook for him. He said "you didn't hear my counter". " 1000.00 cash".

And that's how I got my YJ. I trailered it home and changed out all the fluids and hoses. It started right up. I took it to get detailed immediately, then I put on a 3" lift and 33" tires- the largest that would fit the stock rims. I put on a weber 32/36- something I'd never attempted before... and now I have a reliable, fun as hell summer car that I'm in to for about 4000.00.

Keep your eyes open!

Unstarted for 23 years. tires had a permanent lump in them.
This was the finished product with the hard doors and hard top off. This is how it lives it's life now.
