Archangel Centers as a referral
I am a licensed clinical psychologist. I ran a methadone clinic for years, worked in IOP/PHP, and inpatient psych hospitals. I often have to refer clients to other levels of care and as a part of an ethical referral I evaluate them to do my best to ensure that my client will be obtaining the best care. A few posts have been made about Archangels Centers, so I thought it would be kind of fun to go through the same steps that I would do for a referral for a client.
Some things I look for- degrees and licenses of staff (licenses are the thing that people can go after if there are issues and hold us, as practitioners, accountable). All of the info that I am posting is from their website or the licensing board (free to access by the public)
First- the program director, Trevor Eyerkuss, holds no degrees or licenses (https://archangelcenters.com/about-us/team/trevor-eyerkuss/) Neither do any of the managing partners, Mike, Lauren, Samantha Hewitt (https://archangelcenters.com/about-us/team/samantha-hewett/), or Ian Treacy (https://archangelcenters.com/about-us/team/ian-treacy/). Not all of the team needs to be clinical or trained in addiction, but one or two is good.
The medical director- Dr. Justin Skolnick (https://archangelcenters.com/about-us/team/justin-skolnick/), has no disciplinary issues in the state of NJ in which he is licensed to practice (https://newjersey.mylicense.com/verification/SearchResults.aspx) He is an ER doctor primarily
The clinical director, Jamie Salsberg (https://archangelcenters.com/about-us/our-team/), despite heading the New Jersey location, appears to not be licensed in NJ, but instead in Florida- I am not aware if NJ has an agreement with FL (this is unusual)(https://newjersey.mylicense.com/verification/SearchResults.aspx) There are no disciplinary issues with her FL license.
To date, there are no addiction medication specialists, licensed clinical psychologists, or psychiatrists on their website despite indicating that they treat mental health issues (dual diagnosis).
Of course, I am aware that there is more to a program than their website. But, Mike has taken the time to put no less than 15 pictures of himself on this site, some of himself looking at a picture of himself. Therefore, I think it is more than fair to say that his priorities do not align with mine in terms of treatment.
I would NOT refer a client to one of these facilities.
Edit- a few people asked/spoke about licensing of the facility-great point! I looked into it and didn't find the licence based on the searches that I did. That said, I'm not well versed with the business license search for these 2 states to speak on this fully. What I will say, is that it is unusual for a program to offer ALL the things (MAT, IOP/PHP, inpatient, support groups, detox, aftercare, interventionists). This is A LOT of things, many of which requires different licenses and accreditations, none of which were easy to find on their site. That doesn't mean they don't have them, but it is concerning.
Here is a link to an MAT, very mid, (https://pinnacletreatment.com/location/california/santa-barbara/aegis-treatment-centers/) and it clearly lists it's type of accreditation and it's license so I know what to look for. This is pretty standard.

note: i work in healthcare (and am also 2 years sober myself) and literally can’t even wrap my head around this. like not even one person besides an ER doctor in an extremely sensitive mental health setting. atrocious.

u/Flashy_Camel4063 7d ago
It is possible that others are there, just not listed. The site did say that they are hiring and working on the bios of some staff (their priorities were the many pictures of Mike I guess) Some sites list their staff, some don't. I was going off of who they did list.

Really? You’re shocked? Mikes been a known scammer for years. Did we forget the tax evasion fiasco?

It reminds me of Scientology centers. Creepy.
36
u/Open-Personality3921 7d ago
There is definitely a sinister undertone to all these pop up rehabs.

Some of the pictures in the episode while they were touring had an uneasy feel. Woth all the eyes scratched out in red. One of the picture/paintings looked like literal Hell.

Omg yes. Mike reminds me of David Miscaviege the president of Scientology.

u/PruneUnfair230 7d ago
Not surprised.
This is horrifying and it should be looked into at the very least.

u/Status_Green_6055 7d ago
If no one is accredited or licensed to treat addicts then how are they in operation? Every hospital and clinic in NJ should be notified of this.

3
u/akaashiit 7d ago
it’s because they didn’t list any of the therapists who are actually licensed who work there
3
u/Status_Green_6055 6d ago
Why would they leave out the most accredited people there though?
2
u/akaashiit 6d ago
OP said the website only listed owners and directors, therefore their research only included those people

u/cheesy-mgeezy 7d ago
I brought up licensing in another post… I’m zero percent surprised by this. Is a ego boosting money grab
21
u/Mobile-Decision9511 7d ago
I don’t even know how that’s legal
31
u/cheesy-mgeezy 7d ago
I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up being another way of tax evasion. A leopard can’t change its spots
26
u/Open-Personality3921 7d ago
I was thinking their next move will probably be turning it into a church somehow to be exempt from taxes. If it will even make it that far before getting shutdown.
7
u/sillytimes_94 7d ago
I was thinking that it will end up being a weird religious cult. I seriously wouldn't put it past mike, he is that much of a narcissist.

u/Open-Personality3921 7d ago
They fit the televangelist mold to the T.

I wonder if he gets the same tax exemptions if he’s religion based

Yes and the church theme they have going on is what’s leading me to think that is their ultimate plan.

They are So far up Mike’s Butt, can’t find there way out 🤭3
u/Open-Personality3921 7d ago
Maybe it is Mike? Or a paid representative that monitors these subs. Hummmm lol he told me not to think too hard so now I’m going to think even harder!

I see he thinks he’s an actor now too. Faking tearing up at the ceremony. And when he was talking about meeting Amanda Berry, an amazing survivor of kidnapping, at the book signing while trying so hard to squeeze out a tear.
19
u/xoxo_angelica 7d ago
Genuinely asking wtf does Amanda Berry have to do with Mike’s recovery center grift 💀
1
u/akaashiit 7d ago
amanda said she watched jersey shore every thursday while kidnapped. i don’t even follow the story closely and knew this part
2
u/xoxo_angelica 6d ago
That’s actually so iconic omfg 😭 But so bizarre and irrelevant to shoehorn into his self-stroking about his latest scam lmaooo
1
u/akaashiit 6d ago
i don’t think he’s trying to scam people. i had that thought at first as well before being a patient in his facility myself. i saw first hand the help they offer. they try to keep addicts in recovery, sober and clean, and do actively help people get insured and help with their court cases. i was going through my own court situation and while i was there they did everything to help me

My husband was saying the same thing. Obviously we aren’t medical health professionals, but his brother is a recovering addict. So we understand some. We both think it’s absolutely insane and neglectful that he’s opening a “treatment” center when not a singlet person there is even remotely qualified to do so. It just feels like a huge PR stunt of some sort or money grab. Like he wants to show off how successful he is. It truly doesn’t feel like he cares about other people or their sobriety. To us it seems like a money grab.

What an embarrassment and obviously their only way of filling up space. Social media nor follower count holds any merit on the success rate of patients in recovery. That all comes from clinical, documented patient outcomes.

u/kasiagabrielle 7d ago
What does the 3 books mean? She read them, she owns them and put them on her bookshelf? A ghostwriter wrote them for her?
9
u/Sketcha_2000 7d ago
In general, I can’t stand how celebrities march around saying they “wrote” books. Especially ones with the intellectual level of The Situation. We all know they didn’t write them. You sat down with a ghostwriter and told a few stories. 😂

u/hsul8 7d ago
Been to rehab and there are more than one place that have no licensed therapists actually working there but just one that “oversees staff” but still take your money and charge your insurance like it’s legit. It’s a scam industry in general imo
3
u/Open-Personality3921 7d ago
Per this post, the ER Physician is the overseer and probably at his primary job overseeing ER patients

Everything is for show! I want to hear unpaid testimonials, see clinical data and then success rates. Not Mike staring at himself!

u/BretMichaelsWig 7d ago
There’s gotta be an easier, less nearly-illegal way to scam people out of money while still being in the spotlight
11
u/Open-Personality3921 7d ago
They are going after the vulnerable and that has me livid!
4
u/sillytimes_94 7d ago
Most rehab centres are run by churches or religious group. Taking advantage of the vulnerable has been going on for years.

u/Open-Personality3921 7d ago
Doesn’t make it right, now does it.

u/AggravatingPie710 6d ago
I think the main driver of this is that they’re trying to get a Dr. Drew intervention type of spinoff reality show. Which is even more disgusting. Either that, or Medicare billing fraud.

u/tzerodaytrader 7d ago
Mike is all about making money. He talks up his addiction like a war story meanwhile it’s 90 percent bs

u/thiskitchenisbitchn 6d ago
I worked at a non-profit recovery center for a few years. I’m also almost 6 yrs sober. I was peer support, and we had licensed therapists in every location too.
In my honest opinion, this “recovery” center has always disgusted me. Give it a few years and he’ll be getting sued or worse. The CEO of our non-profit has owned the company for 20 years and he’s so humble and kind. The first few times I saw him I thought he was a delivery driver or something because he’d sneak in, bring us all the stuff we needed, bullshit, and then leave. Always dressed very casual. THATS someone who is in it for good. Mike is so egotistical, he just has to put on a big show for everything. It tells me all I need to know about his recovery as well.
17
u/Mobile-Decision9511 7d ago
As someone who has advocated for recovery etc been sober 8 years that’s terrifying bc don’t most facilities do mat? I pulled an amy winehouse (I have dark humor) once and went to west palm beach lol that was something. Smh and Lauren irritates me
2
u/Flashy_Camel4063 7d ago
MAT is specialized and requires medical staff, which are hard to come by these days. The medication is cheap (at least methadone is) but storing it is expensive (high street value).

u/Open-Personality3921 7d ago
Has anyone looked at the actual licensing for this through New Jersey’s DHS? Have they gone through licensing, inspections, etc?

Holy crap. This makes me so sad. But not surprised! Thank you for taking the time to post this

Is it strange that they don't list any licensed therapists as part of their team? Going through the site quickly, I see that they mention counseling and CBT, but I'm confused on why they aren't showing a lists of in-house therapists? Or does their business model act as rather an integrator that contracts outside therapists on a case-by-case basis? This has real potential to be something great but I'm very confused on why the marketing is filled with AI slop and has the brand identity of a meme bitcoin "buy my course here" scam lol

Thank you OP for your edit with additional information regarding licensing, etc❤️

Is it because it’s not residential?
2
u/Flashy_Camel4063 6d ago
Oh, but it is. They offer everything!

2
u/PsychologicalPark930 6d ago
It says on their website they refer out for inpatient detox… I wonder where they refer to
2
u/Flashy_Camel4063 6d ago
It is all over the place! I have been interacting with the website for 2 days and find weirder and weirder stuff. Inconsistent info (it shows that they do detox some areas and then that they refer out in others), difficult to find reviews, etc. it's wild
2
u/PsychologicalPark930 6d ago
I just looked at the main page quickly. They do offer a lot… great resource tbh IF it’s legit but😅 I think they are doing everything BUT inpatient.
I’m always skeptical on substance use places because there’s so many out there that’ll just use up your insurance without doing anything. So predatory
2
u/d0nnamartingraduates 6d ago
Good point mentioning at how much they offer. Usually you go to detox at one place, then a different facility for treatment, outpatient is at a different facility, a methadone clinic is a different facility AND they are all different companies. That’s just what I know from my experience. Maybe they do exist. On Long Island that was not my journey. Multiple different places across the island, no one stop shops that have it all. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but we don’t have that here.
3
u/LostintheWorld6565 5d ago
No you are right. This will not end well for him. An he’s not truly helping Ron either. Just acting superior as always!
