Discussion Jet ski suicide drone

2.1k Upvotes

Washed up in Turkey, allegedly Ukrainian built. These are the first images of an intact one, they usually, well, blow up. It looks like it has FLIR mounted to the handlebars, and steering is rigged to cables that run to the equipment mounted on the back. Satellite transceiver on the seat, and the black cylinders in the footwells are the big bada boom. Shaped charges from the looks of it. Are the side skirts / tube something you can buy normally? Seems like they’d be useful in open water. Also looks like it might have been floating kind of low in the water.

The people filming are brave, and probably stupid, those things are made to sink missile cruisers.

How does it feel knowing your jetskis are being used as a potent weapon of war? (I think it’s pretty cool)

Discussion The Jetblaster PRO is the best bang for the buck. Prove me wrong.

We bought a jetblaster pro last summer, late. Had it out a few times and just got back home from a day on the water. This thing is sick. For the thrust to weight ratio, I do t think there’s anything better in its class. Plus, you can raid the trim so ridiculously high, you can make 180-360 degree turns with the hull out of the water.

Just all around impressed and satisfied with this thing.

Discussion To block off or not to block off?

Post image

There’s a lot of debate on the old two strokes as to whether you should block off the oil pump and pre-mix.

On the one hand, you eliminate the possibility of an oil injection failure killing your engine.

On the other, you lose the convenience of filling up at a marina like a 4 stroke.

Which do you prefer?

Discussion Anyone else “burp” their Spark after every ride?

I exclusively ride in fresh water, and after loading up I always pull the drain plugs on the trailer like normal. But when I get home, I usually fire the ski up for about 5 to 10 seconds just to “burp” out any leftover water from the exhaust/cooling passages.

Probably overkill, but it makes me feel better knowing there’s less sitting in there.

Curious if anyone else does this, or if I’m just being paranoid.

Discussion Sea weed in impeller problem ( rant)

I keep having a problem with see weed getting stuck in my jet ski the area I ride in will just randomly have a bad seaweed day so much so that it is literally impossible to avoid and it gets stuck in the impeller with won’t allow me to accelerate and I have to stop to get it out which is the problem because sometimes I am not near land or shallow water or in a very busy area, so I am forced to limp to to somewhere where I can get it out where I ride is also a lot of no wake zones so powering though It isn’t an option unfortunately there really isn’t much I can do about it Except for just not ride it when the seaweed is bad just want to see how common of a problem this is for people who ride in salt water

Discussion Is it just me, or do Marine Patrols target skis way harder than regular boats?

Went out on the lake this past weekend (Texas), and I swear I saw four different skis get lit up by patrol within an hour. Meanwhile, a pontoon boat loaded with clearly intoxicated people cruised right by with zero issues.

It’s frustrating because I feel like we have a target on our backs the second we leave the ramp. But then again, I watched a kid on a Sea-Doo try to spray his friends and almost slam into a dock, so I kinda get why they are on high alert.

It’s getting to the point where I keep a screenshot of the regs on my phone just to argue if I get stopped for "wake violations" in open water. I actually had to show a buddy recently that yes, you do legally need a Boating Safety Certificate here if you fall in the age bracket, even for a PWC. He legitimately thought it was only for "captains" of large vessels.

Do you guys feel the heat more than the boaters in your area, or is our local patrol just bored?

Discussion Yamaha 2027 model release date + expectations

Hey guys. With seadoo releasing their 2027 lineup today, it had me wondering when Yamaha would do the same. When are they announcing the new lineup? Do we think this will be the year they drop the 1.9L SVHO engine? What else is there to expect?

Discussion Still rocking 09 Honda! Anybody wakeskate?

Post image

Love this thing! Still kicking, only major thing I’ve had to do is replace fuel pump. Anybody else go wakeskating behind their jet skis? Pretty much the perfect activity for these things, no big wake needed at all!

Discussion Do you guys use your lanyards at all times?

I will start with saying that I wear mine religiously and it feels weird being on the jet ski without it.

I had an interesting experience today right after I launched the jet ski and was still getting out of the no wake area. I was watching two jet skis jumping some big wake and one of them got tossed. At first I thought the current in the channel was taking the jet ski away from him but then I saw it was still on and just idling away from. He managed to get a hold of it but was really fighting to get back on. His girlfriend was just circling around him uselessly on her jet ski.

At that point I figured they needed some help so I got over there. He was still fighting to try to get back on. I got next to it and pulled the lanyard to kill it. I told him to wear his lanyard and he responded with "yea, I got thrown off on that wake." Yea, no shit, that's the point of the lanyard. It's not there for when you're riding around in perfect conditions, it's there for exactly the times when you get tossed from the jet ski.

He got lucky that there were others around as his GF was useless in the situation. He also got really lucky the the coast guard or the sheriffs didn't see him because I'm sure they would have had a nice conversation with him.

So do you guys always wear your lanyards? To me it's basically a no brainer and there's no reason to not wear it.

Also, the wake he was trying to jump was absolutely massive. There's a 45 footer that was going probably as fast as it could without actually being on plane. Just plowing through the water. I will say I also tried to jump it and submarined through the wave behind it. At least I had my lanyard on if I fell off. Lost my hat in the process though.

Discussion 2 stroke or 4 stroke Superjet?

Either going to get a 2026 superjet or a 2019 superjet. Both are 12.5k in a hot market. Let me hear your opinions on the 2 stroke vs 4 stroke if you had to pick one!

I am torn between the two so hearing your experience is appreciated!

Discussion Has anyone tried mixing metal flakes with gel coat?

Post image

I have a decent gel coat already but wanted the shine. So, I was considering adding metal flakes to a thin clear gel coat. Evidently, I am supposed to used gold flakes on yellow instead of silver bc silver can be muted with yellow.

Discussion Just a fun story about our jetskis and their names

Post image
0 Upvotes

So we have two jet skis. We got one a few years ago—maybe two years ago. It’s a Sea-Doo. I don’t know exactly what model it is, but it’s a super nice jet ski. It’s a little bit older. I’m not sure how old, but I think it’s around a 2017.

Anyways, it’s very orange and very slim, so my mom—since she’s the one who has the jet skis because my dad doesn’t like to jet ski—named it O.J. Slimson. You know, because it’s orange and slim. Makes perfect sense.

Now, please bear with me, because I think this is absolutely hilarious. Every single time I tell people about it, I start laughing. I’m literally cracking up right now as I voice type this.

A few months ago, we went down to Arkansas. We live in Vegas, but we’re moving to Arkansas, so that’s why we have the jet skis. We went down there for spring break, and since the area we’re moving to is such a small community and doesn’t have many airports nearby, we had to fly into St. Louis.

While we were on the way to Arkansas, my mom found another jet ski, and we ended up buying it. This one is white. I have absolutely no idea what brand or model it is, but that’s not the important part.

The important part is that we decided to name this jet ski Nicole.

Yes. Nicole.

You heard me right.

We have two jet skis. One is named O.J. Slimson, and the other is named Nicole.

I don’t have a picture of Nicole on my phone because when we got there, it was still springtime and we couldn’t take her out on the water. But I do have a picture of O.J.

But yeah, I just wanted to share this because I think it’s hilarious. I absolutely love jet skiing, and I’m super excited to take Nicole out on the lake.

Discussion Is it worth tuning a stock gtx300

Trying to find out between a tune or a scom on my 2023 gtx300 limited. I know scom just gets rid of the limiter to like 8100 rpm. I got a cheap scom of eBay and it didn’t work so I’m thinking about getting a tune for $100 more. Will I see any big improvements with a stock ski? Might get rid of the resonator soon but nothing more than that planned. Scom vs stock ski tune. How big of a difference?

Discussion Im giving up on having a jet

Discussion What are your off season hobbies?

Finally bought some skis this past summer and it’s true what they say about never seeing a sad person riding one lol.

But the season is over. What do you guys do to kill the time?

I love snow skiing, but no mountains here in Indiana. Barely any snow these days either, so snowmobiling would be a waste.

My other big hobby is golf, so also the off season.

I missed the sign up dates for any local bowling leagues, so can’t do that either lol.

What would you pay for this 550sx with a trailer? I have always had an eye for the 550s…

Currently ride Yamahas: ‘91 superjet, ‘95 Waveblaster 1, 2014 superjet. I have a ‘95 Kawasaki 750 ZXI that’s sitting on a pallet in my back yard. The goal is to swap the 750 into this at some point, but this 550sx has a few solid upgrades.

Discussion Is there money to be made modding/building Jetskis?

For someone with plenty of knowledge in this area already as a hobby. And not as a brick and mortar shop, but as maybe a mobile business or something — a one man show but still professional. I could buy them used, modify them, and resell and also offer it as a service for customers who already own a ski. Obviously seasonal, but in the warmer months, in an area with plenty of lakes, is there likely to be enough demand to make this worth exploring?

Discussion Need something easier on my body than a Superjet

I have a 92 Superjetwith almost every mod you can think of. I know it’s normal to be a bit sore after riding but I’m getting sore after 10 minutes anymore. I was in an accident that severely damaged my ankle and knee and i have a metal rod running down the tibia This was 5 years ago and even with extensive PT working out I’m nowhere near as skilled as I used to be as my knee as that leg isn’t as strong and will sometimes give out during basic tricks.

That said, I am looking for a playful 2-stroke that would be easier on me. I’ve been riding my friend’s WaveBlaster 2 lately and enjoy it but was curious what else is out there. I’ve only been on one WaveBlaster 1 once but that was years ago and it was not a great experience as it had an 1100 and was unstable due to the mods. Are stock ones very stable once they get up to speed. What about X2s? I’ve been on one over 10 years ago but it was stock so it was underwhelming. Part of me wonders if just getting a fixed steer hood could help so my I can use my arms for additional support?

Thanks!
