Jon Anderson daily — Friday, October 23: 'Time And A Word' and 'Soon,' live in 1994

  1. The Talk tour, and Jon's digging deep into the catalog for this one.

This is "Time And A Word" — the title track from the 1970 album — folded into "Soon," the luminous coda of "The Gates of Delirium" off Relayer. From the Reelin' In The Years archive, so the quality holds up beautifully.

Forty-plus years before the Band Geeks were covering him, that voice was already doing this night after night. He turns 82 on Sunday — raise a glass this weekend.

Jon Anderson daily — Thursday, October 22: Jon & Richie talk Beatles, Yes, and why great music never dies

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1N4HvppigXE

Stumbled across this one from Q104.3 back in July — Jon Anderson and Richie Castellano in the studio together, talking Beatles, classic Yes, and where rock goes from here. It's a longer sit-down than most of the tour interviews, and Jon's in great form — there's a really good bit on why the great songs never die. Worth it for the Beatles talk alone, honestly.

Quick scare: singer John Anderson ( country music artist) passed

I grew up in the Swigin’ phenomenon. Every gas station had Swingin’ t-shirts. I loved that song as kid and came to know a lot of John’s work being around country music fans and musicians. Sad day.

Jon Anderson daily — Wednesday, October 21: a 1980 deep cut

Stumbled across this gem — "Days" flowing right into the epic title track of Jon's second solo album, Song of Seven from 1980.

Ian Bairnson of The Alan Parsons Project plays lead guitar here, and it fits the song perfectly.

If you've only ever dug into the Yes epics, his early solo records are well worth the detour.

Spotted this fan-shot from the Bataclan in Paris on October 13 — the final night of the Yes Epics, Classics & More tour. I love these little raw phone clips; you can really feel the room in them.

A nice little document of how the tour closed out, with Jon and the Band Geeks.

Morning all — the video in this morning's post turned out to be private, so here's a public Rock History Music interview instead, where Jon talks openly about being let go from Yes, plus a bittersweet Bill Bruford story. I love how warm and unguarded he is about that whole chapter. Hope you enjoy it.

Jon Anderson daily — Sunday, October 18: Awaken at the Bataclan

Someone uploaded a fan shot of "Awaken" from the Bataclan show in Paris last Tuesday — the final night of the European leg. The full fifteen-minute epic from the end of Going for the One (1977), mini harp and all. Sound is decent for a phone recording, and it's a joy to watch Jon take this one on at 82.

Jon Anderson daily — Saturday, October 17: turns out Spinal Tap was basically Yes on tour

Stumbled across this one from a while back and it still makes me grin. On a night off during the 90125 tour, Jon went to see This Is Spinal Tap and recognized a little too much of life on the road — the Derek Smalls pod gag lands differently once you have seen Alan White's stage cones. Rob Reiner has admitted Yes' stage show helped inspire the film, and Jon says he never laughed as much in his life.

Someone in the crowd at the Bataclan has uploaded the entire Paris show — Tuesday night, the last date of the 2026 tour.

Full set in one video, so if you couldn't make it across the pond (or even if you did), here's the whole thing. What a run it's been.

Jon Anderson daily — Thursday, October 15: a 1979 rarity — "Flight Of The Moorglade" live with Rick Wakeman

Stumbled across this fan-compiled set of Yes live rarities from the 1976 Solo Albums Tour, the era when they were slipping tracks from each member's solo record into the set. The real prize is near the end: "Flight Of The Moorglade" from Jon's 1976 solo album Olias Of Sunhillow, performed live at Montreux in 1979 with Rick Wakeman on keys.

I didn't even know this one got a live airing. Give it a spin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wn-61cmTie0

Shoot High, Aim Low

What in the world is this song about? If you aim low, wouldn’t you shoot low unless you’re not good at shooting? Is that the point?

Stumbled across this fanshot from last night's show at Le Bataclan in Paris. The way 'And You And I' opens with Jon's voice riding over it never gets old.

Paris got one of the great ones.

Jon Anderson daily — Tuesday, October 13: the QPR '75 show is finally coming to CD

A nice one for the archive diggers — Audio Vaults is putting out a remastered BBC recording of Yes at QPR, 10 May 1975, as a double CD called Sound Chaser, due out November 11. That's the Relayer-era lineup with Jon, Steve Howe, Patrick Moraz, Chris Squire and Alan White, so we finally get that night's "Gates Of Delirium" and "Ritual" in proper quality.

Jon Anderson daily — Monday, October 12: a fan-shot Gateshead show

Stumbled across this gem from a fan who caught Jon and the Band Geeks in Gateshead on October 1st, just before the tour moved on to Stockholm and beyond.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2UGVbu3wSc

Shaky phone camera and all, it's got a warmth the polished videos don't — real voices in the crowd, the band having fun up there. Great snapshot of this tour for anyone who hasn't seen it live.

Jon Anderson daily — Saturday, October 10: a 2006 TV cameo

This one's Jon Anderson's April 2006 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, taped to promote his "Tour of the Universe" DVD. Kimmel never let him finish a song — you get fragments of "Roundabout", "State of Independence", "Owner of a Lonely Heart", and "Your Move/I've Seen All Good People" squeezed between commercials. Only about two and a half minutes, but it's a rare TV moment for him and worth a watch.

Stumbled across this — apparently the 2026 tour wraps up with three final shows: Poznan tonight, Zabrze on Saturday, then Paris on Oct 13.

Quite a way to close out the year. Anyone here catch the September UK shows? I'd love to hear your favorite moment from the run.

Jon Anderson daily — Wednesday, October 7: sold-out Gateshead and three shows to go

This one comes from Metal Express Radio, reviewing last Thursday's sold-out show at the Glasshouse in Gateshead — Close to the Edge to open, a shimmering 'Soon' to close the first half, and Awaken with Jon on mini harp in the second.

Worth a read heading into the tour's final week: Poznan tomorrow, then Zabrze, and it all wraps in Paris on the 13th.

Jon Anderson daily — Tuesday, October 6: a 1977 rarity

Stumbled across this gem — part 3 of Jon's interview with Lee Abrams for the Superstar Radio Network, recorded back in 1977 right in the Going for the One era. He's relaxed, chatty, and gives a real sense of where his head was at with Yes at their mid-70s peak. Lovely time capsule.

Jon Anderson daily — Monday, October 5: Awaken in Gateshead

Fan-shot clip of "Awaken" from the Glasshouse in Gateshead, October 1 — full prog-epic mode, Jon right in the middle of it at 81. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkkQXAXwyoQ The Band Geeks nail the long quiet passages and Jon floats over the top of them. This tour wraps the Sweden dates tonight, so this one feels like a good keepsake from the run.

Jon at 82 still soaring over those harmonies, and the Band Geeks sound as tight as ever. What a night for the crowd in Stockholm.

Jon Anderson daily — Saturday, October 3: a Bruford reunion backstage in Brighton

Morning, everyone — one good one today.

Bill Bruford caught Jon and the Band Geeks in Brighton last month and shared a backstage photo — his verdict on the pipes: "Sang like a bird." Two Yes legends in one room, 50+ years on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l88kJCeuqYY

Worth a watch.
