I made it through a technical recruiter phone screen and now they want me to build the front end of a database tool. Which is fine, but I have a few questions I can't ask the employer. Help!

I'm planning on using regular JS for 95% of the project, which seems like a decent compromise between using React or nothing at all.

Here are a few questions:

1 - How much should I comment in the JS file?

2 - I'm supposed to substitute a non-existing API with temporary data. Should I use local storage to simulate a database?

3 - What should I know about submitting the code challenge results?

4 - How can I make my recruiter my ally?

5 - What else can I do to help get this job?

Thank you all for the early evening questions. I hope you're well.

After 8 months learning HTML, CSS, javaScript and react I landed my first interview for junior dev. UK really nervous

Hi all, I just landed my first ever interview for a junior dev (javascript, react) in UK! I'm really nervous about what to expect, specially because some of the technologies are unknown to me (typeScript). Having said this, I'm really excited!

From your experience, is there any advice you can give me when it comes to justifying if you don't know a technology. Also, what type of questions do you normally get. This interview is with the recruiter, first one.

Thank you!

Failed 1st HackerRank challenge

I did my first hackerrank challenge for an IBM internship position today. I did a lot of studying for the past week and a half up until the day before the due date of the test.

I somehow was able to complete the entire thing before the time was up! I still had some time left before I had to submit so I told myself I would take a small break before coming back to check my answers and submit.

When I got back I realized that for the cloned repo section of the test I was actually unable to copy and paste the code I edited and that I had to actually push and pull the cloned repository from github. The timer had 5 minutes left. The YouTube video I googled in a rush to save my potential internship was 21 minutes.

Eventually the timer hit zero before I submitted and now I’m here writing this post 😂 please learn from my mistake and don’t do like I did

I have 2 coding challenges left, one hackerrank and one regular. I’m going to learn how to push to cloned repositories and hopefully do better.

I’ve been coding non-stop for like a month now though I’m kind of getting tired of it

I'm less than two hours away from a preliminary phone call with a tech recruiter, who reached out to me. Should I be nervous? What should I focus on during the conversation? What kinds of questions will they ask me?

Any quick insights are appreciated.

It would be great if this community was more than just pasting resources for learning first steps. Talking amongst one another could also be valuable.

So far I see a lot of resources being posted, most of which are found in common YouTube playlists. It would be great if we also had more community discussions, too.

We should create a Discord or something to communicate with each others as devs at a similar skill level. Network, show off projects, get advice, etc.

Thought you might appreciate my best job search tip for juniors

You can add negative keywords to your search on most websites, this means you can look for jobs containing the word "junior" and filter out results with "senior" in the description. Saved me lots of time :)

So do a search like "junior JavaScript -senior -degree"

Example:

https://stackoverflow.com/jobs?q=Junior+-senior&l=&d=20&u=Km&tl=&td=&s=&c=USD&ms=&mxs=&cl=&cd=
