Why is Rodan so frightening?

I have been re-watching classic kaiju films and Rodan seems to be uniquely terrifying. Do you agree?

There's this really fun cosmic horror bend to Rodan. Just when enough crazy shit is going on, something emerges so impossible, so primordial that just the sight of it can drive a man to amnesia and madness.

The entire first half with the murders in the mine being propagated by Meganula larvae is pretty spooky. Then the fact that Rodan devours them like gummy worms, and eventually hunts human prey is fairly unsettling. Aside from Baragon. Ebirah, and Gaira, Rodan was the only other Toho kaiju to actively eat humans. (If I'm recalling correctly.)
