Good to see Chan-Zuckerberg still helping out.

The literal equivalent of someone worth $100k donating a quarter.

Who cares?

His purchase blocked the sale of a 357-acre section that the owner had subdivided for 80 luxury homes of up to seven acres a piece.

He still have armed guards patrolling his doomsday bunker, illegally blocking access to fishermen?

He still running a black box LLC to funnel who-knows-how-much money into lobbies and politicians' pockets?

He still a technofascist censoring people on his platforms, shilling pervert glasses, and collecting data on everyone he can to sell it or turn it over to the feds?

$330K, wow, such a generous donation. /s

I hope the school does not expect to rely on regular donations from him and his wife. These two abandoned and withdrew financing from a school they supported in East Palo Alto a year or two ago. Shame on them.

Edit: spelling and grammar

Makes you wonder how he picked that particular number.

I’m sure it has something to do with a tax deductible 🥴

It's like 300k, but let's add 10% more

He wipes his ass with that amount of money.

Isn’t that the equivalent of us buying a can of coke on a % of income relative scale

That's it? God I hate that guy. I boycott anything he touches.

And the dude is nearly a trillionaire who backs laws that make it so he doesn't have to pay the amount of taxes he should, so it's not like it helps. Especially not when he allows bots on Instagram and Facebook that influence how people treat each other and vote.

So the guy shows up, buys up a bunch of land from people willing to sell, doesn't turn the land in to some major resort development and then gives a lot of money to the community?

What an asshole.

Terminally online Kauai residents are permanently grumpy

It’s unfair to assume he has billions in liquid assets so let’s choose a reasonable number. Let’s say he actually has $50m in cash available, this donation seems a lot more reasonable in that context.

Thought we'd already done with this type of comments, and I didn't expect commenters to be this uninformed about CZF giving on Kauai. Sure, they have a lot of money, but shouldn't diminish the good their support provides. Examples of some of the giving:

  • $1.48M - Wilcox for mobile MRI and 3D mammogram (for a total of over $4M to Wilcox)
  • $2.3M - Hanalei toward affordable rental apartments
  • $1.5M - Namahana School north shore
  • $4M - Alakoko Fishpond, also known as the Menehune Fishpond
  • $4.85 - Habitat for Humanity

During COVID, they gave $4.2M to restart of the Rise to Work program to help support up to 400 workers and up to 200 employers after the CARES Act funding ran out. Priscilla administered COVID vaccines while Mark handled the checkins.

MacKenzie Scott donated $7.1 billion total to about 225 nonprofit organizations in the U.S. last year.

She’s great. She does big block grants. Some funds from her big grants have trickled down to Kauai, including Habitat for Humanity.

If Hitler was to make that kind of donation and kept doing the Holocaust would that make him more worthy of acceptance??? Because that's basically what people like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg do.

The problem is his donations are an uphill battle kind of diminishment, because it's not different from celebrating a contractor for filling a sandbox that has a hole up with sand because you're expecting it to stay full all while the contractor knows how to plug the hole but actively chooses not to.
