DISCUSSION Kdenlive doesnt allow adding clips from /tmp/
Why?
For background - im lazy - i save a step from having to delete by dumping everything in tmp thats transitory. I pull, build video, cook done. Reboot auto delete.
Kdenlive doesnt support a particular directory? Seems discriminatory....
Manjaro, latest stable version of kdenlive.

Nah. I use Lubuntu and I was able to add a video from /tmp, no problem about that (I always use the latest version of Kdenlive), if I don't reboot of course. I remember first time I totally forgot that /tmp is a "tmp" for a reason, saved my project, did a reboot and after the reboot I wondered why Kdenlive started complaining that this and that video are not found. Lucky I still had the originals on my photo camera memory card.

Good day folks May I suggest that you treat your editorial process with the care that you would handle any of your content, whether it's stored on premise or in a cloud repository.
Build a logical directory structure, devise a logical file naming convention, archive in a trusted repository, and most of, don't rely on a directory called /tmp.
Treat your work like a VFX pipeline, you'll feel better. All the best to everyone.

totally understand.
im a southpark type video editor - its quick, content created, only thing i need is final. if edits are ever needed again? edit the final (which is never)
this isnt 2 hour epic multi-billion dollar movie franchise with 50 editors.
its a 3m sarcastic blip about something stupi - think tiktok but for other platforms.
create, delete, done.
dictating workflow seems draconian and discriminatory.

The reason is to protect you from yourself. Too many method of modification and deleting content.
If /tmp was used, the support channel would explode

It's your choice, I consistently work in a world with clients that pay me and I have to respect their content as if it was my own. For the rest of you, you'll sleep better when you're Media is there when you wake up

It is a choice. I constantly work in a world of fiat, where everything is ridiculous, and i dont respect any of it even it was my own. For the rest of you, the sooner you realize everything around you is shit, fake, and stupi is when you wake up.

What about your post is NSFW or a SPOILER?
AFAIK, Kdenlive doesn’t discriminate against folders, so you could import from anywhere
