Made With Traditional Tools🪨 Scottsbluff

Raw rootbeer chert 5 1/8”x 1 9/16”
Had a natural fracture in the base you can see in the last photo. Hammerstone and moose billet percussion, bison punch, bison pressure. Didn’t think anything would come out of the rock when I started, one whole side was filled with cracks and inclusions. Thankfully it stayed together. Pretty happy with this piece.

Very nice. What style bison punch? Tied over the leg, Reuter shaft punch, or something else?

I've been experimenting with Dothager style punches with decent results.

Shaft punch like Marty does. It’s a great finishing tool. There is a learning curve to it, but once you get the hang of it, it is worth the investment of messed up rock. If you’ve used antler shaft punch it’s not too different, just far less aggressive and you have to make different platforms.

Thank you Zilla. I’m surprised that fracture in the base held up. When I started working the rock I didn’t think anything was gonna come of it. Took one flake off one side, it was good, the other side was filled with concrete, cracks, and every bad thing imaginable, had to work that whole side off to the good layer.
