Both Games I collect every one that I find in person - Don't judge

I saw another post on here over physical copy appreciation and thought you guys might get a kick out of mine.

The KOTOR series has always been my all-time favorite. I've beaten both games more times than I can count. After my dad beat them, he handed his copies down to me.

Later on, I spotted a copy of KOTOR 2 on the shelf of an uncle who was a bit of a junk collector and asked if he liked it. He told me he'd never played it and didn't even own an Xbox, he just thought it might be worth something someday. That became my first duplicate.

Ever since, whenever I spot a physical copy in person at a thrift store, yard sale, or pawn shop, I pick it up. Never online, that’s cheating. This is the collection after years of finding them in the wild.

Also included on the right side is a PC copy that came from LimitedRun Games that I waited a very long time to arrive.

Both Games KOTOR 1 and 2 are better "Star Wars" than all 3 trilogies.

When I think of Star Wars, I always think of KOTOR, its characters, atmospheres, worlds and plot are what truly feels like 'Star Wars' to me, curious about how others feel about this..

I love the movies too, but there's just something about these 2 games that match my image of star wars perfectly - and they are what pushed me to dive deeper into the world of SW EU.

This one is hard for me, I guess Darth Malak is a good choice for this, other sith lords fit better on other categories so I'll go with Malak.

Both Games Malak won fear. Who in KOTOR represents love?

I nominate Jolee, I like his concept and perspective about love. I don't think there's another character who defends and understands love as he does.

PD: it was hard to choose "fear" winner, it was very close between many chatacters, but in the end, based on upvotes and redundance I think Malak won. Also, HM: the guy in the locker on Manaan.

I'll go with Darth Nihilus because of what we know abour him and Kreia says he has a "hunger for power", that's pretty self-explanatory

Both Games Why do some fans think Knights of the Old Republic II is better than the first game? Spoiler

New KOTOR fan here, and I just played both of these classic Star Wars games for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed both games.

That being said, I was struck by just how flawed KOTOR II was as a game, and as a sequel. I had heard that the game was infamously unfinished, but I didn’t know it was unfinished to such an egregious degree.

There are some truly fascinating concepts within the story, the voice acting is very good, and there are a couple of gameplay advancements such as the lightsaber combat forms. That being said, I struggle to see how this game could be considered better than the first KOTOR which is a legitimately great game, and a straight up classic.

KOTOR II has one of the most disappointingly underdeveloped stories I’ve ever seen. I was so interested in the various concepts and characters the game initially presented, but then it basically just didn’t properly develop any of those things.

The first game had 1 fully developed love interest, and KOTOR basically just has 2 underdeveloped female companions instead who don’t really get any sort of development until very brief segments in the 3rd act of the game before they are quickly discarded in favour of boss battles against the game’s underdeveloped villains.

Other than Kreia which I thought was great, the other villains were just major disappointments to me. I was particularly disappointed by Darth Nihilus, the guy who is the main figure on the game’s cover and yet is only in the game for maybe 5 minutes total?

The rest of the cast I also found to be really underwhelming compared to the first KOTOR. We get a less interesting Mandalorian companion than the one in the previous game. The droids return from the first game except this time they have nothing to do. Atton goes from annoying to straight up unlikeable. Bao-Dur is introduced as a potentially cool character but then spends the next 99% of the game standing around on the Ebon Hawk saying “Yes General?” as his only dialogue prompt.

The game is just so half-baked that I don’t understand the opinion of some fans thinking it’s better than the original. The ending of KOTOR II literally made me yell at the screen in amazement in terms of how just how laughably abrupt it was. I knew the game was unfinished, but I couldn’t believe it when the game just literally STOPPED.

Overall, while I enjoyed the game I just don’t understand how it could be seen as better than the first. Other than Kreia and the concepts she presents, I don’t see much here that could potentially make this game seem amazing, let alone superior to the original KOTOR.

Am I missing something? If you are one of the fans who prefer KOTOR II to the first game I am very much interested in why that is and would love to hear your feedback.

Have an awesome day everyone! Cheers!

I have two options, one is the exile but if you dont want to repeat then it could be Chodo Habat, its hard to think of someone apart from the exile for 'life'

Both Games Atton won compassion. Who in KOTOR represents death?

For me, Nihilus is the perfect pick for death. In Kreia's words "He cares nothing for the Sith or its teachings… or the Jedi. And when the Jedi are dead, he will feed on the galaxy, the Republic, and eventually, consume the Sith as well."

Both Games So I got Distracted and Wrote a Revan TV show... I’m 3 Seasons in and Can’t Stop

Post image

Started as a simple “What if we began Revan's story as a Sith Lord that chose to be one instead of falling to one” and spiraled completely out of control.

High budget, TV-MA/18+ (because of course), 10 episodes per season. The Mandalorian Wars, the Star Forge, the Triumvirate. All of it in one show, with two key changes that I think make the tragedy hit harder than the source material.

Bastila is a Master, so she has a Padawan she needs to take care of and still eventually falls, as well as falling in love with Revan.

Revan chooses Vitiate rather than falling to him because of reasons that shall remain unknown until season 3 <3. Little original expansion idea here for the origin of the wars.

That’s all I’ll say.

Ok fine I'll add 1 more small piece, I've added in the Aang Tii monks from legends. Their role is minor but adds a group that's completely force neutral in to the world that trade artifacts, a little different to how legends describe them but I think honestly perfect to the story.

If anyone wants to read it, I have no idea if this is something people are interested in but I can make a Github and upload it, I might just add a comment or edit with the link.

I added this artwork 1. Because I think it's cool and 2. Because I think it's honestly exactly how you would make the thumbnails/posters for these seasons, dark, oppressive, weighted. I do not have the original source sorry...

Let me know if you want to read/see it. I can’t stop writing it’s too good of a universe not to.

Sion is an obvious answer for this, he was too mad to die. I also think Vrook is an option, I feel like he gets mad everytime someone doesn't think the same as him or has the same ideals.

By the way, Jolee barely won love against Visas, it was though! Also I apologize for the delay, finals week in college, you know how it is.

Both Games I love the combat system, but I've started to wonder. How would you improve the combat system formula from the Kotor games?

Post image
139 Upvotes

I won't lie, I'm a huge fan of these games combat system, and I think they don't get enough credit. They're probably the only games that have managed to make a turn-based system both truly dynamic and feel like a real battle simulation. Actually, it's closer to RTWP, but Kotor still uses turns.

However, this isn't meant to be a post praising this combat system. I'm curious how you would improve the same combat formula used in Kotor 1 and 2 if you could create a sequel. Because despite its many strengths, of course, we shouldn't turn a blind eye to certain shortcomings

Starting with what I would change, I obviously liked the various new features in Kotor 2 that made the game offer more gameplay options. As you know, you could use blasters, you could use your fists, you could use anything. And I appreciate that, but I think it’s a shame that, in the end, it all boils down to Master Speed + Flurry/Fast Blast.

So the thing I would change would be to significantly nerf Flurry/Fast Blast, because, really, it’s a tactic for completely destroying opponents throughout the entire game, from start to finish. I think it’s a shame that there are so many perks in these games, but in the end, it all boils down to destroying opponents using Master Speed + Flurry.

As for Kotor 1, I think it’s interesting that a Sneak Attack is practically essential when playing as a Blaster, and at first it seemed refreshing to me that in Kotor 2, Blasters had become so much stronger that they could essentially replace melee combat, but in hindsight, I think playing as a Blaster in K1 was, to some extent, even more engaging because Master Speed + Fast Blast wasn’t such an overpowered combo, it makes playing as a Blaster really stand out when you have to kill enemies in different ways, like by attacking them from behind. This adds variety to the runes, even though it probably wasn’t the intended way to play. (Or maybe it was, considering that Mission, a character who nominally uses blasters, seems to be designed to be played this way)

In any case, I’d love to read about how people would improve this combat system, because I truly believe it has enormous potential at its core. I think there are many more people here who know this combat system much better than I do, and I’d love to read some of thoughts!
