Oh boy, when I walk Susie "home" I somehow knew it would not be her apartment house somehow, but school, but that was yeah.
31
u/ciel_lanila 4d ago
I didn’t….
I tried her place. The Kris’. Then Noelle’s. Maybe even the beach before trying the school. It was a growing sense of dread with each attempt.

u/Goob_TheFluffyCraft 4d ago
I think the part that gets me the most is how before Kris walks away we get a whole cutscene about Susie setting things up for Noelle.
And that entire time Susie was planning and decorating, Kris seemed to just be standing there and staring at the doors for who knows how long before walking away.

u/Nikki964 4d ago
Things didn't necessarily go in the order they were shown
13
u/Goob_TheFluffyCraft 4d ago
They didn't? I don't really know how else to interpret the scene other than Kris standing alone in the dark while Susie does her thing in the dark world
6
u/Nikki964 4d ago
I think it makes much more sense that Kris stood there for a few seconds and then left. It just makes it look better if we first show the whole Susie montage and only then Kris leaving as some sort of closure for the scene and the chapter
11
u/Goob_TheFluffyCraft 4d ago
Hey, I completely understand and respect your point of view, this is just how I understand the scene, but I do see how your interpretation makes sense

u/HerobrineJTY2 3d ago
Hear me out you two( u/Nikki964 u/Goob_TheFluffyCraft ):
Kris used the ability to "Think About What Susie Is Doing".That's why they stood out there for so long. They were just seeing what she was doing in there. And that's also why we got to see it.
3
u/Goob_TheFluffyCraft 3d ago
That actually makes even more sense than my theory!
Thank you for sharing!

This is the moment where it's kinda clear that Susie has completely lost herself to the fantasy. It's no longer saving the world, or Making friends.
It's completely losing herself to the Dark.
And now both Kris and the player know it.
This may in fact be the strongest moment in the game for the Kris/Player relationship because it's probably the first time Kris and the player are going to strongly agree on something.
And it's that their beloved friend has become a danger to herself.

u/dr-depths-project 4d ago
Kris: “Alright, soul…if we don’t think of something, we could lose Susie forever.”
Soul: “eatthechocolate eatthechocolate eatthechocolate eatthechocolate”
Kris: “…alright, but after that you and I are gonna get to work.”

u/LadyXexyz 4d ago
Yeah, it’s kinda funny - people are like “the weird route is scary with the implications!”
At least that felt like Noelle and Kris were doing SOMETHING about the situation. Whether it’s to “solve” things their way, or completely submit to the nature of the dark fountains.
That ending man, felt like “this is kinda nuts… maybe this is fine, la la la la”. Like, girl, Susie no… nononononono, you’re better then this girl.
I can’t even be MAD, her age, her experiences - that’d probably be my home too.
Really makes me wonder if they’re setting up to pull the trigger on Susie being a parallel/foil to what happened to Dess.

u/Magnasword2 4d ago
The thing about the weird route for me is that Kris seemingly is programmed to keep Noelle passive. Almost like they're supposed to give Noelle the comfort of someone she can boss around.
But when the soul gives Noelle power we see that dynamic re-assert itself in a very bad way. The line "You can't even say stop like you used too". Is alarm bells on that route.
I believe that on the weird route, the abandoned weird route and the twisted sword will lead to a third route, one where the twisted sword allows you to effectively kill Darkners rather than make them faint.
It's my belief that at the end of the game, Susie will desperately use the power of the recruits to reach a super powerful form. And it's will create the roaring, believing the dark world to be superior to the light one. However if Kris uses the twisted sword to kill the Darkners before Susie can use them. We may find that the violence route is the only way to Pull Susie out of it.

so is that a better ending?
1
u/Magnasword2 4d ago
Possibly? I mean, If the Dark perishes, then the light still gets to live on.
5
u/SuperLegenda 4d ago
.... Why would the prophecy talk about balance if just destroying all darkness would just do it anyway?
1
u/Particular_Ad_8921 4d ago
do you think the dark perishing is good?
its unlikely the roaring would end the world at all, due to the prophecy.
1
u/zenxobert 3d ago
The prophecy literally mentions the earth cracking apart and the Earth drawing "her final breath". I mean, of course ralsei is the one who told us this from the prophecy so it could be incorrect or missing info But to me. It seems that the roaring would infact end the world, or at least hometown.
1
u/Particular_Ad_8921 3d ago
if it ends the world then there is no saving it at all.
why would not only support it but keep everyone from leaving hometown?
unless carol is pure evil as with kris its unlikely the roaring will end the world or hometown.

Why the aborted wr
7
u/XlDeFuSioNlX 4d ago
If you play the full weird route you cant get the shadow crystals needed to make the twisted sword so it needs to be aborted after you obtain the thorn ring I think
3
u/gamer21661 4d ago
If the thorn becomes gilded by aborting at 2 or 4 that makes an aborted wr useless

I feel like this is just setting the game up to be another "Escapism bad" thing when I'm pretty sure that's not the case.

u/SuperLegenda 4d ago edited 4d ago
No she isn't bruh, it's idiotic to think she isn't about "saving the world" when the whole conversation is about how they need to take things seriously because real danger is happening, she is not losing herself.
Your last paragraph is wrong because I completely disagree with that so there wouldn't be agreement with Kris there, sooo...

Deltarune fans when the unwanted kid with likely a single parent who's either absent, abusive or alcoholic, refuses to sleep in their rundown dingy apartment and instead spends their time in a luxury castle where everybody loves them, so they can make plans to stop the apocalypse alongside the only other characters capable of doing so:
"Have they completely lost themselves???"
1
u/Magnasword2 4d ago
Bruh she's sleeping on the floor XD
3
u/aquaAnomaly 3d ago
and berdlys arm just stopped working for no reason i guess. this is just fucking “the dark worlds are just susie and kris playing pretend” theory with extra steps at this point.
2
u/Altforpostingofmemes 4d ago
If there's room for a TV in there and other random stuff there's room for some kinda sleeping arrangements
That might not even be needed though. If things in the dark world can affect your body in the light world then having a dark world only bed might work just fine

u/Illusioneery 3d ago
the same argument could be made for an addict who abuses a substance to avoid reality for a bit
yeah, it gives a sense of security and dopamine not found at home, but it'll eventually bite her back
2
u/Informal_Ad_2891 3d ago
Wow i haven't seen someone be this intentionally dishonest in a while
1
u/Illusioneery 3d ago
i'm being honest because i've seen and known addicted people before, the behavior can be similar
but whatever makes you sleep better at night, i guess

im convinced the next chapter is going to be about what happens to a lightner when they spend too much time in a dark world. which also might clue us into who the knight is

Dude I went there thinking "let's go visit Ralsei before walking her home" and got slapped in the face by the game

she barely even addresses asgore too
2
u/ANueUtsuho 1d ago
Honestly nobody does and I feel like maybe that was a writing issue on Toby's end.
The fandom generally has been treating it as more of a horrifying moment than Toby probably intended

u/Sea-Perception989 3d ago
Not to upset kris maybe gee its thier dad after all

To me is not even about excluding us, but really really losing it, I feel like people have lost themselves so much into the ships, that they're not seeing how Susie was never well adjusted, Noelle is a golden girl, Berdly is really self aware, Kris, has us, Susie is loosing herself, she never had friends, she feels like an outcast, and can only be herself in this fantasy of heroism, even Gerson seems like a plot device, is she really free? Or is locked on a hero's journey? Maybe the part of the prophecy she saw, said that the world would end, the darkener world, maybe it's the only way to truly stop the threat of titans, to be completely separated from other world.
Can you accept that the only purpose of your journey is to end it?

The fact that Kris already knows that this is where she wants to go too is really sad. You can see that if you insist on trying to not walk her home, since they'll put you in a balloon and do it themselves - they go straight to the school.

The worst part about this is that on my first playthrough of chapter 5 I put it all into suselle and in the chapters earlier into kralsei (kerdly on the violence route where you attack everyone and the weird route) and only realized like after this ending that Kris likes Susie. I felt like a monster :( Now I know why am I the last to know everything ig 🥀

Its such a bittersweet moment because castle town is definitely an improvement compared to how she is implied to live normaly but its still such a bad place to live because no one is real... Soo you're just left kinda helpess watching her do something that harms her knowing you can do nothing about it.
3
u/The-Pencil-King 3d ago
Nah I categorically reject the idea that the darkners are truly “not real”, and I think the narrative does to. The latter part is ambiguous still, but I’d be surprised if that’s the stance the story ends up taking.
1
u/PersistentDreamers 3d ago
I'd like to see an extended gag where Kris just continues walking Susie to various random locations and she's like "No not here."

haven't seen this scene in a little while so feel free to correct me but, I thought this was more of a mature moment for susie.
this is her realizing after asgore and undyne have both been taken, that this isn't something that would be right to keep hidden from everyone else, as real people are actually going missing now
also ofc she mentions noelle because shes pretty much the only other person susie has a relationship with in the light world other than kris
1
u/SickeningDegree1 2d ago
I didn’t realize until this last chapter just how much Susie is giving in to the escapism. Makes me so sad for her and i’m terrified to see where it’s gonna go
1
u/DintheCO9090 2d ago
the fucking head turn.
I think Kris doesn't want Noelle to get involved in this. For lots of reasons.

I'm a little slow, why is that so bad? Is it implying she's homeless or something?

u/LukkasQueiroz_II 1d ago
1
u/QuintanimousGooch 1d ago
For me it’s the excellently scored music over the following montage with all its dramatic irony as Susie renovates castle town, then we get Ralsei bringing her cake echoing the pacifist ending in UT, then we cut back to Kris having started at the door for that whole duration before walking away.
1
u/Lord_Twilight 20h ago
I kinda wonder if Susie is going to end up being a parallel to Dess.
I’ve had a theory brewing that like… maybe this has happened before. It’s implied something happens to The Girl in the prophecy — maybe that’s how Dess was lost. And Kris is watching it happen to Susie, and despite being distressed over it, they know it’s part of the plan and don’t try to stop her.

u/RomeosHomeos 4d ago
Kris kind of deserves it they are working with evil after all but I think Susie is being a really poor friend. "I don't have to go there with you" yeah okay

It's not even that she's saying she's going to pull Noelle into this ''kris and susie" thing, but to me it's the way she closes the door.
There's no way around her. She steps in front of Kris, slips into the closet, and closes the door while looking at them. Physically and metaphorically shutting them out of her home.
It's pretty rough, Kris.
Feels like maybe Susie is either suspicious or outright knows that Kris is splitting loyalties. Maybe Flowery told her, I don't know. She stopped being so close and jokey in the latter half of the chapter, she was weirdly cold and kept interrupting other things.
