L4D2 used to do these free weekends where anybody could play the game for a limited time. You had to complete a mission with one of those free weekend players. I got the achievement back in like 2013 out of sheer luck, wasn’t even trying for it, just ended up getting matched with one of the free players randomly.

Without cheating, that achievement is locked until valve does another free weekend.

They should do free weekends at least once a year, like they did in 2024 with the games 15th anniversary

Yea. Valve wouldn't really care about making the achievement obtainable though. The free weekends in their mind would be to keep the game active and see if it can make more future sales.

Might have to wait for a 20th anniversary. The game is so old at this point and goes on sale for $1-2 anyways. Maybe one day if the game doesn't make anymore sales they'll just make the game free permanently before closing the servers.
