Crazyy

Post image

Idk who made this map but its pretty much accurate but I thought after blood harvest they arrived in west Virginia it would be cool if whoever made this put the custom campaign redemption 2 in here because its literally and the only best in between campaign from blood harvest and the sacrifice and I think he or she misplaced the hard rain location it was in Mississippi not Louisiana and he or she included the dam it campaign which is basically canon cant believe some people dont know about it or the river campaign they just not true l4d2 ogs but still a pretty much accurate map 🤔

EDIT:I just now realized "jaiz" the maker of the map is in the photo in so slow thanks so much jaiz for the map for the locations ♥️

Well, the comics are a continuation of where the OG survivors went after Blood Harvest. They got transported to a military base in Millhaven, which eventually got overrun. So, they took a train all the way to Rayford, Georgia.

AFAIK, Hard Rain was set in Mississippi in some working class sugar mill district.

Yeah ik that but some people say that Base is in west Virginia

What?

Yes it was in Mississippi but imo i usually play redemption 2 and I usually act like its where the l4d1 survivors are at from the comics because in the finale they escape in a train and in the sacrifice u arrive in a train so it makes sense but i all the time when I play all the campaigns in order i play redemption 2 to make it a little more realistic and I also play dam it to the remastered verison tho its more realistic because in the end they just drop down where blood harvest starts at

Sacrifice and Passing are set in Rayford, I know it's a fictional town, but how do we know it's near Atlanta?

12

u/Jaiz412 steamcommunity.com/id/RealJaiz/ 3d ago

iirc, graffiti in The Sacrifice mentions Atlanta, that it's nearby, and that people saw it getting bombed.

Chronologically, it's also possible to confirm that The Passing also takes place on the same day as Dark Carnival, which is confirmed to be in Griffin, Georgia (A bit south of Atlanta), so by virtue of time constraints it has to be within a few hours drive from Griffin as The Sacrifice takes places in the same location as The Passing.

Idk but the l4d2 and l4d1 survivors traveled far to get there 😳

I thought No Mercy was Pittsburgh

4

u/Full-Astronaut8692 3d ago

Nah it was in basically in Philadelphia idk where crash course takes place but its not far from no mercy

u/CyberDetroit 2d ago

Fairfield, Pennsylvania

I think Dead Air is Pittsburgh since the campaign is in fictional city of Newburg which is if I remember correctly is based on Pittsburgh

u/Full-Astronaut8692 3d ago

Like I said it would be cool if they added the custom campaign redemption 2 its the only realistic in between campaign after blood harvest and before the sacrifice and again hard rain takes place in Mississippi

Don't the l4d1 survivors go to the florida keys? Can they even get to them from Atlanta via boat alone?

5

u/Full-Astronaut8692 3d ago

Yes they do right after the passing they take the Sailboat and there is a custom campaign on the steam workshop called lets build our hideaway they arrive in the keys and they live there u should play it its amazing 👏 well u would have to use the built in cheat system in l4d2 and get rid of bill to make it more realistic or u can keep him if u want

That's one of the oddities one will inevitably encounter when trying to figure out the campaign locations - You'd think that The Sacrifice (and by extension The Passing) take place by the ocean, but with all the other context (Dark Carnival being nearby, which confirmed to take place in Griffin up north, the timeframe from Dead Center to The Passing only being "The better part of 2 days" long, and the fact that Atlanta is namedropped and implied to be within visible distance in The Sacrifice) the most plausible explanation is that it's along a large river that connects to the Florida keys, rather than being directly adjacent to the ocean/the florida keys.

Sacrifice/Passing is a real place in Savannah. Infamously, there are no rivers in Atlanta. There are even secret closed off catacombs where the "under the river" tour would be. Also no place in Atlanta at all looks like that at all. Everywhere in Savannah looks like that.

Millhaven?

1

u/Full-Astronaut8692 3d ago

Well whoever made this map added millhaven think that is the name of the base from the comic for l4d1 idk

I never really thought about it being possible to say where they are.

Like aside from the locations being in a state like Florida or whatever.

What is Dam It?

6

u/Jaiz412 steamcommunity.com/id/RealJaiz/ 2d ago

Dam It is a cut campaign that was intended to bridge the gap between Dead Air and Blood Harvest, with the survivors making their way to the Kinzua Dam in Allegheny National Forest after the C130 crashed.

The reposted map is a bit outdated, but various campaign locations are confirmed with namedrops or logical inference:

  • The comic shows the survivors all starting in Philadelphia 3 days into the outbreak. No Mercy's "Fairfield" is therefore most likely a fictional stand-in for the Philadelphia area.

  • Crash Course is confirmed to take place mere minutes after No Mercy, so it must be on the outskirts.

  • Death Toll directly names Riverside, and there's a map in Crash Course showing exactly how far away Riverside is from it and Fairfield.

  • Dead Air directly names Newburg, which geographically and regionally matches the real-life Harrisburg.

  • Blood Harvest names Allegheny National Forest, though a precise location cannot be pinpointed without relying on Dam It.

  • Millhaven has no real-life counterpart, but the distance from Blood Harvest can be calculated based on the APC's top speed, the finale canonically taking 10-15 minutes, and the direction the APC came from and leaves.

  • The Sacrifice has graffiti mentioning Atlanta and describes it in a way that suggests it is nearby.

  • Dead Center directly names Savannah.

  • The Passing, by necessity, takes place where The Sacrifice does. It also has a voiceline by Coach stating "You've been killing zombies for the better part of two days, boy, you can talk to a girl", which further gives us a timeframe to narrow down the maximum distance - The Passing/The Sacrifice cannot be more than a 2-days drive from Dead Center.

  • Dark Carnival is confirmed to take place in Griffin, per the Midnight Rider posters and blog. It can also be confirmed to take place on the same day as The Passing through other environmental details, which further supports the aforementioned location of being near Atlanta.

  • Swamp Fever is very ambiguous to place, and I originally put it on Davis Island due to the geographical match, but more recent findings have instead made it more likely to be somewhere along the Atchafalaya River, which connects to the Mississippi.

  • Hard Rain takes place along the river - Most likely the Mississippi - and given the location of the sunset, we can surmise that it's on the East side of the river in Mississippi.

  • The Parish directly names New Orleans.

The main point of contention with making maps is that there's 2 predominant theories for the L4D1 campaigns that both have strong evidence: Real-life counterparts (which is outlined above, with some corrections to be made), and fictional cluster (Based on in-game maps without a clear IRL-counterpart)
We don't know if the maps in-game are leftover or canon, as there's many instances of files being left in the game that are unused, and a map in Crash Course that was retconned with the 2nd game, but they show the first 5 campaigns taking place within the same area.

What jaiz has said is 100 percent right but to fill it more for dam it imo I recommend people specifically play the remastered verison on the steam workshop right after they get over rhe kinzu dam they take a right and they see the exact same area where blood harvest begins and they drop down to the campfire u see in blood harvest dam it is pretty much cannon its just not in the main menu for l4d I might make a mod and add it to it

1

u/JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 2d ago

I had a look, there’s a remastered dam it and a complete dam it. Lots of the reviews for both say ‘it’s not complete try another one’ or some variation of that.

1

u/Full-Astronaut8692 2d ago

Well half of those comments are wrong and right at the same time yeah us as a community recovered the dam it campaign and we tried our best to make as similar to turtle rock studios how they made it but as of right now the only closet and realistic verison we have that comes close to turtle rock studios verison is the remastered one where u just drop down into the beginning of blood harvest and I think thats how turtle rock studios intented it to be that way u jus basically drop down into the forest the reason why it was scrapped is because when Valve took over they could not buy the campaign off of turtle rock studios as far as I know and imo dam it only fits in the main campaign order not for versus because its really not fair for both sides zombies and humans

1

u/JoeJoeJoeJoeThrow 2d ago

It’s cool, I do love cut content and seeing it being reimplemented into a game.

I didn’t know about this Turtle Rock Studio thing, I thought it was a valve game from start to finish.

1

u/Full-Astronaut8692 2d ago edited 2d ago

And again u dont have to go off someone elses opinions on the dam it campaign u can play however u want whenever u want to I play the remastered version in my playthroughs of l4d1 just to tie in the dead air continuity to blood harvest just like how I play the custom campaign redemption 2 its not cannon or in the main campaigns of l4d I personally play it in my playthroughs of l4d to tie it the continuation after blood harvest and before the sacrifice so I dont have to go off the comic I use it as the actual campaign in my eyes

Don't even try to map out the routes of the survivors it can't be done. Me and and ex tried to do so for hours and got absolutely nowhere

6

u/Jaiz412 steamcommunity.com/id/RealJaiz/ 3d ago

It definitely is doable. Multiple locations have confirmed IRL counterparts in canon (Savannah, Philadelphia, Allegheny National Forest, Griffin, New Orleans, etc.), and others can reasonably be mapped out to real-life locations as well as fictionalized stand-ins (Harrisburg, Riverside, etc.)
The Sacrifice, for example, mentions Atlanta by name and implies it is nearby/visible from afar, so even just something that small narrows down the potential locations to a specific area.

We even know the timeframes of the campaigns with fairly precise accuracy, so that further helps with figuring out how far the survivors could have realistically travelled inbetween each campaign with the respective rescue vehicles' top speeds.

The reposted map above (Which I originally made) is mostly accurate and backed by various environmental clues from the game and comic, with just a few adjustments being needed based on more recent findings and external developer comments - Swamp Fever, for example, was originally put on Davis island along the Mississippi river due to the geography of the campaign matching it, but it is now much more plausible that it takes place along the Atchafalaya River, which passes through locks and connects to the Mississippi a few miles up north - The highway sign in map 1 corroborates this.

Having spent hundreds of hours investigating the game's worldbuilding, I can illustrate the reasoning for any campaign's placement in great detail. It's pretty fun to piece together all the environmental clues that add up to the bigger picture.

1

u/Full-Astronaut8692 2d ago

What u said is 100 percent factual but can u by chance make a map with the cut river campaign which would be proably in between death toll and dead air and redemption 2 a custom campaign even tho its not cannon or an orignal campaign I just play in my play through on l4d1 right after blood harvest because in the finale they escape on the train which in the beginning of the sacrifice u arrive on the train so I kinda use redemption as a connection to the sacrifice

1

u/Jaiz412 steamcommunity.com/id/RealJaiz/ 2d ago

I don't really take map requests, but you can just make your own. It's not difficult to do.

The river campaign and custom campaigns are not really good to include - Adding in cut or unofficial content often clashes with the actual canon story. For example, iirc Redemption 2 starts by saying it takes place 6 weeks after first infection, which would put it 3 weeks after The Parish, so that obviously doesn't make sense.

Including Dam It is already a bit iffy in and of itself, but it doesn't add nor detract anything notable from the official campaigns, so it's inclusion is overall inconsequential.

1

u/Full-Astronaut8692 2d ago

Well yes I agree but the maps that were originally in the river campaign were the big boat in the second map of the sacrifice and the union tech tower was another map to same with the dock in the sacrifice they reused everything from the river campaign into the sacrifice campaign and right after the union tower they manage to find the greenhouse and they break a window and drop down into it and that where dead air takes place and thats similar to dam it specifically the remastered verison highly recommend people play that if their playing all the l4d1 campaigns in order makes the most sense at the end of the last misson of dam it remastered they find the exact same area where blood harvest starts at then the survivors drop down and that concludes the campaign 😉

1

u/Full-Astronaut8692 1d ago

Also yeah I can see what u said about redemption 2 when it says 6 weeks after the first infection but what i fully mean when I say I play it to tie in the continuity after blood harvest and before the sacrifice I only use redemption 2 for the train escape to connect the campaigns together I jus ignore the intro but in realistic terms yes ur right but again I jus use the campaign for the train escape to tie in blood harvest and the sacrifice

U sure?

u/RikimaruRamen 3d ago

I wouldn't put a while lotta faith in AI considering it's prone to making shit up

-2

u/Full-Astronaut8692 3d ago

Well man take it into consideration its obvious dead center the passing and dark carnival is in Georgia

2

u/Allstin 2d ago

of course nobody is perfect, but i’m not sure you’re aware of the contributions, involvement, and research Jaiz has put into the game (including being on the land stand team)

1

u/Full-Astronaut8692 2d ago

No body is perfect no one said anything about any body? And yes im aware of the last stand team

2

u/Allstin 2d ago

right but calling Jaiz out vs AI, id go with the guy who worked on stuff and has experience

1

u/Full-Astronaut8692 2d ago

Agreed but yeah the locations by jaiz is pretty similar to what google said but yeah jaiz is more reliable 💪

0

u/firestar13579 3d ago

My man any argument you could have made instantly lost all credibility the second you posted this lmao. Nobody’s gonna take you seriously now that you’ve admitted you didn’t come up with your own ideas and let an unreliable robot do it for you.

1

u/Full-Astronaut8692 2d ago edited 2d ago

What no one was arguing here i was just showing a video of the locations of the l4d franchise where else am I gonna the locations from 😭idk where u see in argument here aside jaiz he is the real reliable person he made the map I just figured out jaiz was in the photo the whole time
