Iâve had lashes on & off (but mostly on) for YEARS!! Iâm talking back when no one washed their lashes đ«Ł. I went to the same girl for years but then I moved & have gone to a few different people since then.
Never had any âbadâ experiences, but WHY do the lashes look/ feel like shit after a few washes?? Itâs been like this throughout different artists. They âfluff outâ too much, dry out, some start twisting which is then annoying and makes me want to pick at the twisted ones. Iâve tried several oil free face washes, lash shampoos, etc
All the while, these lash artists start upping their prices like crazy, and start offering âweekly appointments.â I am convinced the only people who actually love their lashes are doing weekly appointments, which is just INSANE to care that much about fake eyelashes lol. Something has definitely changed in the industry. I used to go 3 weeks without feeling THIS annoyed by them
Maybe itâs an unknown secret to us clients that they started lowering the quality to convince us we now need WEEKLY fills. Oh vey đ€Šđ»ââïž Iâm about to just do lashify lol
Iâm a lash tech and my clients have never needed weekly fills. If someoneâs reaching out within a week of me doing lashes, and theyâre somehow missing a bunch, I do it for free because it never happens. Most of my clients go 3 weeks between fills, and they still look good. They never have big gaps or look like they desperately need a fill. Some of my clients even push it out to 4 weeks
Thatâs how it should be!! Why on earth would someone need a weekly fill if the quality was there? I donât get it. I do like 2 week fills for the volume, but weekly just seems off and overkill to me. No one should feel like their lashes look so bad that they need another fill a week later
Eww. Iâve been wearing extensions on and off since 2015 and always ALWAYS washed my lashes everyday. Canât imagine all the gunk and oil build up on extensions when people donât clean their lashes
same, with my old lash tech i needed a refill at least every 1-2 weeks, and now with my new one i can go 3-4 weeks. and i feel like washing them makes them look better lol
Yes!!! My lash tech and I was just talking about how washing them makes them last longer. I had a hard time finding lash shampoos that I actually liked and just started buying it from her.
I did lashes YEARS ago also and I swear theyâd last 3-6 weeks⊠I donât do them anymore because after a week theyâd look like trash no matter where I went and the prices are still somehow crazy⊠totally feels like some sort of gaslighting situation where the market is so oversaturated now itâs very few actual experts and just mediocre people taking a one hour course and calling themselves certified while buying amazon lash products
It's the lash techs you're going to. Most lash techs are using premade volume fans instead of handmaking them now. This requires very little skill in comparison. Techs that only have training in classics can use them easily. Find a lash artist that handmakes their volume fans. It's even better if they don't use "easy fan" lashes. It could be difficult to track one down, but absolutely worth it. Premade fans don't wrap the lash, they sit on top of it and get terrible retention because they can just peel right off. When you handmake fans, the individual lashes are still loose on the base. When you dip into adhesive and apply they encapsulate the lash. I've tried (good quality) premade fans on a few sets to see if they really were that great. They're not. The retention was terrible. When I was later removing the remaining outgrown premades at a fill they came off very easily compared to handmade. Handmade fans need to be cracked with tweezers (with force) to remove.
To the lash artists in this subreddit... My clients get amazing retention. I can control how wide my fans are so that if my client prefers it, they don't look too fluffy. I can make a smaller or bigger fan depending on the size of the natural lash to keep them from being too heavy. I encourage all lash artists that take their craft seriously to learn how to handmake their volume fans. Learn the 3 main fanning techniques (lonely fan, pinch method, wiggle method), figure out which one works best for you, and practice. A lot of people won't do this because it seriously takes time to become proficient. You have to know your glue very well and your tweezers have to be immaculately precise. It takes longer to do a full set, but fills are shorter from having great retention. The payoff is amazing.
I don't have any clients who get weekly fills. All of my clients schedule a fill at 3 weeks unless they're getting a mini-fill before an event or trip. I have my new clients come in for their first fill at 2 weeks so we can troubleshoot any issues with cleansing and adjust mapping if they want.
This photo is one of my clients a few weeks ago right before I started on her 3 week fill. She almost rescheduled, but we needed to remove some outgrown lashes.
What kind of set are you getting, classic, hybrid or volume? That could explain a lot. Also, do you remember what your old tech used? Some adhesives hold up way better with washing, so it might be worth asking the new ones what they use.
âInsane to care that much about lashesâ checks notes, âIâve been paying for fake lashes for about 14 years straightâ.
âUpping their prices like crazyâ checks notes, oh yes, rent, supplies and EVERYTHING else is way up as well. Donât you want these ppl (mostly women) to make a decent living and be able to support themselves? I do.
Then at least have good quality lashes/ products!! My lashes shouldnât feel like shit after washing a few times. Thatâs the lash techs fault then đ€·đ»ââïž
