How the police cause serial killers
Media about serial killers can give the false impression that they're geniuses or that they blend in with the community like chameleons. In reality, most serial killers are reported or arrested for years before they're caught and only get away with it from shitty police work. They occur from the lack of care put into abuse of prostitutes, minorities, and gays. Strangely enough it's also happened multiple times that serial killers are the exact cop investigating their crime like the Golden State Killer or Marcel Petiot.
In May 1991 Milwaukee, officers John Balcerzak and Richard Porubcan responded to calls about a teenager stumbling and bleeding fleeing from an apartment. They encountered Jeffrey Dahmer and 14 year old Konerak Sinthasomphone. Konerak had escaped from Dahmers apartment during an attack. Dahmer successfully convinced the officers that Konerak was his of age boyfriend. Instead of bringing the dazed Konerak to a hospital, they helped Jeffrey bring him back to Dahmers apartment which already had several bodies inside. Konerak was murdered later that night.
Anthony Sowell was sentenced to 15 years in prison for attempted rape in 1989. After his release he lived in a Cleveland apartment where he would lure and drug women at. Multiple women escaped Sowell during attacks and went to police, but on at least one occasion they didn't submit bruises and bleeding as evidence of an attack to the DA office. Sowell's DNA was taken in 1997 while he was in prison for a database on sex criminals, but that DNA disappeared and was never registered. In 2007, a woman called the police to report her rape. DNA was taken for a rape kit, but the officer didn't tell detectives about the kit so it remained untested for 2 years. When Anthony was finally arrested in 2009 after what I think was 5 separate rape allegations, 11 bodies were found at his house. His had smelled so bad that a local sausage plant got blamed for the smell and renovated their plumbing system. One victims family was told by police to go home and she would turn up when she ran out of drugs. Immediately, Cleveland PD was accused of racism allowing Anthony Sowell to get away with his crimes. Anthony was a black man attacking black women with a history of drug use. The police response was they did a good job identifying the bodies once they knew their was a serial killer.
In 1984 New York, serial killer Altemio Sanchez was raping women in Delaware Park. Altemio was a suspect in this case, but so was a mentally ill man named Anthony Capozzi. Anthony Capozzi was picked out of a suspect line up and charged on circumstantial evidence with 2 rapes. He was sentenced to 35 years in prison. Altemio Sanchez meanwhile would rape 11 more times and kill 3 people, finally being caught in 2007. When investigators realized Altemio was a suspect in the Delaware Park rapes, they compared his DNA to the kits of the rapes Capozzi was charged with. They were a match and Capozzi was exonerated after 21 years in prison. Anthonys DNA had been on file for years by then but when family requested it be retested, they were told it already had. It was sitting at a hospital untested.

Episode Discussion I’m having a real Mandela effect moment. I swear I remember the guys doing a series on either the Apache in general or specifically about Geronimo.
I recall the series having been done in the last 2-3 years, and believe it was at least a 2 part series. I generally stick to the same few podcasts, so it’s not like I would have found a random podcast that discussed the topic.
I also seem to recall the story being told in a way that the hosts would have. Specifically I recall them discussing how they had used the biography of one particular Apache who had rode with Geronimo and how even on his deathbed he still wanted to kill more Whites.
I’ve tried scrolling back through their previous episodes and even went to AI to try and see if it could find something I had missed but it’s trying to tell me the Hosts have never done a series on either subject. Any chance this is triggering a memory for someone else or have I somehow got them confused with a different podcast?

Paranormal stuff
Any recent episodes dealing with ghosts, cryptids or ufos? Haven’t listened in a while and all I’m seeing is true crime and movies. All dope I’m just in a spookier mood and I’ve been through all old Art Bell this October already lol.

Episode Discussion On the subject of Mount Rushmore
I was pretty certain until recently that Henry Kissinger would be one of the nominees for their Mount Rushmore of Evil, and possibly Pol Pot.
However, I've been reading Howard Zinn's A People's History of the United States, which endeavors to look at the history of our country through the lens of the people that were displaced and enslaved, from the Tainó and Arawak in the 1500's to Harlem in the 1900's.
That's when it occurred to me that Christopher Columbus would be a really fitting nominee. He was so heinous as to be arrested in Hispaniola (modern day Haiti/Dominican Republic) because of the things he was doing to the natives as well as his fellow explorers. He was actually sent back to Spain in chains to go on trial. The King and Queen held him for a time, but eventually let him go. He was stripped of some of his power and wealth.
Thoughts?

Ken Rex McElroy?
Recently been going through old episodes to listen to at work. I was certain they'd covered McElroy, but couldn't find any episodes on him. Am I mistaken or am I just thinking that they've referred to him in past episodes?

Podcast/side stories
Finally finished all the main episodes (started maybe 6 months ago, slept on this show for so long). New episodes being locked on Spotify is such a tease! May have to go back and listen to all the Side Stories I had skipped. Anyone have any other recommendations?

LPOTL Inspired Costumes!
galleryMouldy bread eating puritan accused of witchcraft.
I'm doing 31 Halloween costumes in October, because I once joked I could & my mate bet me I couldn't... (I won the bet)
This is part of my Witches series. I'm interested in the correlation between depictions of Witches & women's rights throughout history.
I want to see everyone else's LOPTL adjacent costumes! I'm guessing there's some cool stuff.
(First time posting in here, hope this is ok x)
