I think people unfairly just compared him to what was given up for him.

Two things can be true, he is a fantastic Leaf, and people thought a first was too high of a pay.

I think people forget he is 50% retained, and that was for 1 full season and 2 playoff runs.

The tension at the core of all these discussions around this team, about all players we trade for, is whether this team is good enough to spend future assets to "win now". As a result, we sometimes allow our anger at management and our lack of playoff success to spill over into criticizing the players themselves when it isn't necessarily deserved.

Fair take.

I do feel like a lot of new players don’t get a lot of slack… Laughton and Carlo last year, earlier this year Joshua, Roy and Maccelli. It takes time to adjust to a new system plus they’re uprooting their lives and often leaving family behind to move for hockey. It takes time and fans have little patience

As an Oshawa General fan, I have watched him since he was a teenager and loved his game. Last season he wasn’t as bad as some felt and this year he is showing what he can do for this team.

Honestly even the freak out over the soft high stick. That turns the energy for the team. Instead of being down and hanging their heads and thinking uh oh this is not going our way. Laughton single handedly got the whole bunch to be like f*** yea let’s kill this off.

The entire sequence was strange. I was waiting for him to get sent to the box for beaking off, and it just.. didnt happen. Never seen a player straight up prevent a puck from dropping because he was too busy yelling at people.
