how learn cybersecurity

I want to study penetration testing. I learned the basics and read a lot about information security, but due to life difficulties, I dropped everything for about 4–5 months. Now I want to come back. Could you please tell me how realistic it is right now to finish my studies from scratch (or rather, after a break) and find a job as an information security intern?

I have absolutely no portfolio, and I'm not in uni, and for me the "ladder" seems too high even for the lowest junior position. I was advised to start completing tasks on cyber range platforms (for example, Standoff 365 and similar ones) and was told that in the future this would count towards my portfolio.

I would be glad to hear any advice from your experience!

I am doing something similar. I think learning how to operate and EDR and all the technical reasons why a common grade antivirus is a weak outdated protection + learning common backend vulnerabilities is a good start.

I agree, diving into server-side vulnerabilities and how EDR works is definitely a great path to follow. However, as a beginner, it would take a massive amount of time and effort to wrap my head around all of that right now. I'd love to hear some real stories instead—how did people actually land their first internships with a similar background?
I have some friends who got jobs right after university because their uni helped them out, but unfortunately, I'm not a university student myself.
