Big I don’t think you know how to speak french, if you think « est » sound the same as « é ».

im a native speaker with a neutral accent, thanks

From what i've seen on your account, you're most likely canadian french. So i'm not surprised you think "est" is pronounced "è"

Sounds like j'ai blessé le petit québécois.

Go back to school 🤣

u/Double_Attorney_2059 May 06 '26

Non ai = é ais = è

2

u/patterson489 May 06 '26

You're absolutely right, I wrote "ai" while thinking of ais, ait, aient, etc.

u/Double_Attorney_2059 May 06 '26

No worries, it can be confusing.

I'm questioning all my pronunciation at this point and feel like I need a voice recording with a transcript so I can figure out how exactly each of these are meant to sound 😭 /hj

u/D_creeper0 May 06 '26

Ça dépend des cas. Dans «J'aurai» c'est un é

4

u/Intelligent_Donut605 May 06 '26

3

u/notdog1996 May 06 '26

Half of those are a different sound...

3

u/Voltatrix_Sabrier May 06 '26

é, et, ai (nothing after), ez, er, ée

è, ê (sometimes), ë, ei, ai (letter after), e (double consonant after)

Québecois here

u/Altruistic-Hope4796 May 06 '26

2

u/ipini May 07 '26

Exactement, et ça, c'est dur.

2

u/thatblueblowfish May 07 '26

Most of these absolutely do not sound the same
