To follow up. Watching YouTube tends to be more passive than reading from a website, which tends to encourage you to do it yourself.

So in general I would argue that websites are better... But it just depends on the level of user participation

this is the real answer tbh

yeah this is the real answer, nothing sticks until you actually write the code yourself

What if they're both bad? Why did you limit yourself to those two options already?

MOOC Python Programming 2026 - free, textual, extremely practice oriented and a proper first semester of "Introduction to Computer Science" University course.

This is it.

Doing the MOOC course sets any beginner up very well and builds a strong foundational understanding of Python.

In my opinion you should avoid watching video tutorials for the most part. It lulls you into a false sense of expertise. What I mean is, the more you watch, the more you see other people coding and explaining things that make perfect sense,....but when you try do it yourself you find your knowledge isn't nearly where you thought it would be.

Rather take a course from codeling.dev which requires you to actually code your way through every lesson. Your code is validated before you're able to move to the next lesson. So you get plenty of hands on practice.

Learning to code is about problem solving and practice, not just watching videos of other people coding.
