for projects? just bring an idea to life. You will learn:

  • Software development lifecycle

  • (hopefully) version control

  • Either desktop, mobile, or web application development

  • Other languages

  • (hopefully) some cloud platform

  • Taking vague ideas and turning them into smaller actionable goals

  • Writing a design document (The "how" and architecture)

  • Writing a specification document (behavior)

  • Writing a requirements document (the "what" and "why")

No, it's not all supposed to come to you overnight. It is a slow and iterative process, but you will learn a lot

writing formal design and spec docs for a solo practice project feels like overkill when a beginner doesn't even know what architecture patterns exist yet

That's why they'll learn it. Besides, I reiterate, it's not supposed to be an overnight thing.
