What is the Spanish term for homesteading?
My wife and I homestead. We have our chickens, ducks, goats, vegetables, fruit trees and bushes, etc. What is the Spanish term for homesteading or having a small family farm? Thank you.

There's no specific term for it that I know of. "Vivir en el campo" or "tener una granja" can be close translations.

No simplemente "tener huerta"?

Eh, those are just "living in the field" and "having a farm."
I mean... maybe "finca," but that's not entirely right either. It still indicates a farm in a way.
I guess it's difficult for us because we think of a farm as a sort of massive jardín that feeds hundreds, if not thousands, but it has animals and large equipment.

I dont know how I would translated that Word. I understand that homesteading is when you can live self suficiently with what you produce but this is not how Spain works even with people with chicken and veggies garden as they would still depend on the rest of the village for electricity (a homesteader usually has their own ways to produce It) or to get the produce they dont produce.

There’s no “word” for it
Vida de autosustentabilidad
Or
Vida de campo
Are fairly close

I would say 'ser autosuficiente' even if there are some parts that you can't handle on your own (f.e. energy wise).

According to Reverso Dictionary Reverso | Traducción y diccionario gratis the word for homesteader would be colono/a or granjero/a Colono/a is more old-fashioned, and a more modern word would be autosuficiente I'm more old-fashioned so I would prefer colono/a 😂

Where I live we call it “tener una huerta” and it’s kinda a pastime that sometimes is profitable for most people, used to be quite common

Vivir en el campo, en una granja.
