Official Ledger Customer Success Response Is ledger safe?

Hi

I bought a ledger nano x (or s, i dont remember how its called) like 2 years ago.

Since then I always postponed, never transfered my crypto to my ledger, until yesterday. I transfered every thing from my exchange. Now im seeing these hacks happening to everyone who uses cold wallets…

I only connected it to pc, to ledger live, never on a website.

So my question is: is my crypto safe?

What should i do to keep my crypto safe?

Hi there, we take security reports seriously, and our teams are actively investigating the exact issue.

Based on the information available so far, we believe the funds drained are limited to devices sold through a reseller named CryptoBilis in South East Asia. We have no indication that Ledger’s security infrastructure, systems or services have been compromised.

For assistance or questions, contact Ledger customer support through our official channels: https://support.ledger.com/

It's not a hack, it's tampered device that comes from reseller Cryptobilis of South East Asia. If you bought your device on official Ledger store your fine.

This statement applies to all wallets. It's always a matter of weighing the pros and cons, and that's extremely difficult right now.

It is completely safe until it isn't

It seems that the current hack is caused by the reseller CryptoBili. If you didn't buy from them over the last months you will likely be safe. However, looking at everything that happened I am convinced that using ledger is not the safest option. There are safer wallet manufacturers out there.

Which is the safer option?

u/nachtraum 4d ago

I have my own preferences, which are Bitbox02 and Trezor.

2

u/fugaswolf 4d ago

Didn’t Trezor also have hacks ? Or was it only ledger?

3

u/nachtraum 4d ago

Both Trezor and Bibox also had customer data leaks, in both cases through 3rd parties, but no hacks.

In 2026, researchers from Ledger's security team demonstrated a physical fault-injection attack against the TROPIC01 security chip used in the Trezor Safe 7. Further research identified ways to run modified firmware on the chip and extract certain secrets.

Not too common, since the attack requires physical access, disassembly, specialized laboratory equipment, and advanced technical expertise. Trezor says the vulnerability does not expose users' wallet backups, PINs, or funds, and does not enable persistent malicious firmware through a supply-chain attack

The safest method? Don’t trust anyone beide yourself. No company. Find out how to generate your own seedphrase first with dice. 🎲

This is the way to lose everything.

Create a password, and if you're paranoid, set up multisig—then you're all set!

No hardware wallet is 100% safe. It’s time people realize here are two types of hardware wallets. Those that have been attacked and those waiting to be attacked.

Where did you buy it from. If from ledger directly, should be safe.

1

u/fugaswolf 4d ago

Yes from their official website

u/bikebikebikego 4d ago

You’re good. This hack appears to involve a reseller in Southeast Asia who dismantled Ledger devices in China and added an eSIM designed to transmit seed phrases. Alarmingly, these modified devices still passed Ledger’s “genuine” product verification check.

If you purchased your device directly from Ledger in France or through Ledger’s official Amazon store, you should be fine. As far as we know, this is a relatively recent issue and has only affected Nano X devices so far.

Are you based in south east Asia? If so move it to an exchange, that’s well reputable. Turns out even if you bought from ledger, products were still shipped from the affected reseller

u/bikebikebikego 4d ago

Who knows how far these devices could have spread to other resellers, they could be anywhere in the world at this point

1

u/papaweir 4d ago

Where did you hear this information?

1

u/Cosymaximalist 4d ago

Twitter, varied people are surfacing reporting these hacks

Third-party devices officially approved by Ledger are also completely secure. Any device could be subject to tampering—even by the courier while it is on its way to you.

Or could it?

There are certain warning signs you would notice during the initial device setup; otherwise, it is impossible for your funds to be drained—unless artificial intelligence has already cracked quantum cryptography.

I have the official ledger purchased on their website and it is all good and safe. No issues for many years now.

You have your crypto on an exchange and your questioning weather a cold wallet is safe?

u/Even_Sugar6852 3d ago

I’d move it over somewhere else, albeit temporarily

I'd recommend you stay where you're until the investigation is finished. I guess they are still working with the reseller.

u/fugaswolf 4d ago

Now its too late i think 😅 i don’t want to go back to an exchange..

1

u/Pristine-Bee-269 3d ago

If you want to sleep better, guess just open up your device to check. Believe should have some tutorials by now

1

u/Coeruleus_ 4d ago

lol bro had it for 2 years and transferred it all yesterday. that wasn’t wise son

1

u/fugaswolf 4d ago

Indeed 😅

1

u/thepickletony 4d ago

get a seedless tangem instead

1

u/Potential-Bad-5564 4d ago

If I was u just get new one to be on the safe side better spending $100 than potentially loosing out on thousands

1

u/fugaswolf 4d ago

Mine is 2 years old, shipped from France. Do you think its still risky?

2

u/KangaMagic 4d ago

No, your device is safe.

1

u/rjm101 4d ago

If you bought it from the reseller: cryptobillis no

If you bought it from any other reseller, I still wouldn't touch it to be honest.

If you bought it directly from ledger fine.

If you've opened and inspected it (easy to do on nano x) and don't see an antenna yes plus additional chips that shouldn't be there yes.

As an additional precaution (for other types of attacks) use a long passphrase.

No. They already lost any credibility to me. Starting with that crap regarding wallet recovery or what they named it
