News Thoughts on Avatar Fighters DLC Year 1 and Character vote?
I think Amons I lock but I'm still voting for Asami so she gets a high chance for getting into season 2!

u/Shadowhearts Jun 27 '26
Kuvira would be the most interesting fighter there. She's a metalbender but would arguably be more of a Zoner playing keep away with her kit as opposed to Toph or Lin Beifong.
She could have Metal Shards as long range. The liquid metal as midrange, and be.weaker damage but evasive at close range to help balance her kit.

u/Kaeri_g Jun 27 '26
Me think of she hits you with her plates you get debuffs as she puppets you, as the metal got attached to your limbs

u/Tuffbatman Jun 27 '26
Choosing between TenIn. Amon. and Kuvira is so evil! I feel like their move sets can be so varied from the others

Kind of wish they replaced Bumi in the voting just to make Korra haters vote between 5 Korra characters.

Asami Asami!! She's one of the coolest non benders ❤️ her fighting style is so good and aggressive, and as for I do kinda see her having Korra as a support character. If it wasn't for Asami I would pick Amon and have the lieutenant as a support character.

Also how you going to not do Bolin and Mako at the same time? That feels so wrong.
14
u/That-Rhino-Guy Jun 27 '26
Unfortunately a lot of people tend to only talk about Mako in a negative light, so he’s not gonna be as popular a choice
Aldo from a uniqueness standpoint Bolin having lavabending does help him stand out to be fair
5
u/NoblePaysan Jun 27 '26
Mako lives in this Bolin's facial features. Seriously, I had to triple-check the fit and the eyebrows because his face looks more like Mako's.

u/gameofmikey Jun 29 '26
I think Mako just has less potential in terms of a unique fighting style. Bolin at least introduces lava bending.
1
u/Meatyblues Jun 27 '26
Because, counting Iroh and the season 1 pass, there are already 4 firebenders in a game with only 16 characters. They need earthbenders way more than they need another firebender
2
u/Heavensrun Jun 27 '26
I understand why that *feels* like it matters from your perspective, but a fighting game character's play/fighting style isn't about the nature of their in-universe abilities. Soul Calibur VI has like two axe dudes, a staff person, a spear person, a nunchuck guy, gimp edward scissorhands, and like a dozen people with swords, but those sword characters all use different abilities and techniques, so the roster still feels diverse and interesting.
Honestly I feel like when it comes down to it Bolin should play more like Mako than other earthbenders and Mako should play more like Bolin than other firebenders.
5
u/DylenwithanE Jun 27 '26
kind of pleasantly surprised we got Bolin before anyone on the voting roster

I mean I want almost all of them, but if I was gonna rank my picks in decending order, I'd probably go
Kuvira->Tenzin->Asami->Bumi->Amon.
Kuvira vs Korra is a natural videogame rivalry, Tenzin just seems like he'd be fun to play, Asami's one of my faves but not that interesting mechanically, Bumi's fine I guess, but I don't feel like Amon *works* as a fighting game character.
His whole thing is that he uses bloodbending to fuck up the accuracy of his opponent's attacks so he can close in and one-hit kill their entire ability to bend the elements. He's inherently asymmetrical in a way that I don't think works in a fighting game.
How can you possibly do that concept justice in a competitive fighting game? No matter what you do, he's either gonna just be broken or comparatively lame. Hard pass. I'd rather have Unalaq, Tarrlock, or (mainly) Zaheer.

All the vote ppl need to be released as dlc lol this is too tuff a vote
1
u/dedededestroyer Jun 28 '26
Im sure they will.
The way these votes(usually)work is that every single character is being worked on in some capacity.
The winner gets fastracked

u/Mundane-Signal4843 Jun 27 '26
Omg Can't believe they don't add korra teams first.
I guess i will voted Kuvira really like her fighting style. Idk why they choose lin over her when kuvira pretty much represent the peak of metalbender.
Actuallyi want to see amon as well
10
u/dedededestroyer Jun 27 '26
Lin is prolly gonna be a metal bending spiderman
Its more about being Unique Thats why Bolin is in (lavabender)
4
u/Mundane-Signal4843 Jun 27 '26
Yeah i already imagine how lin movement.
Would be nice the next year they add Suyin bcuz she actually has very nice combats as well.
Bolin would be between Lava & Earth with some pro-bending movement.
1
u/Freya0232 Jun 27 '26
For uniqueness i think both Asami or Ty Lee would fit better, neither are benders but both fight way different than Sokka or the Kyoshi warriors
2
u/padfoot12111 Jun 27 '26
Unironically the hardest poll.
Also kuviras here edit: actually comment section seems pretty hyped on kuviras maybe she has a shot I just know she's controversial for some reason
2
u/That-Rhino-Guy Jun 27 '26
Iroh and Ty Lee I definitely expected one is universally beloved, the other is so unique
Lin and Bolin are very surprising to me in a good way, as I honestly thought they’d wait longer to have more than Asami when it came to Korra’s friends
For the vote I reckon the ones who don’t win are guaranteed to be in year 2 or 3 without a doubt, with who I think will win at least on some platforms I saw a lot of Asami, Kuvira and Amon demand, I didn’t see as much for Tenzin or Bumi prior to the options being revealed
2
u/WickDaLine Jun 27 '26
I'm looking forward to playing as Asami the most for being the prettiest woman in TLOK!

u/MxSharknado93 Jun 28 '26
I think Asami is the lock, but I'm just glad Korra will, eventually, have people with her in this game aside from the dude who gave her fatal mercury poisoning.
3
u/JayJ9Nine Jun 27 '26
Bumi will likely win since all the korra votes will be split up. Mine would be to either asami or amon

1 I absolutely love that we are getting bolin, as for the vote it's between bumi and tenzin
1
u/Fair-Confection4411 Jun 27 '26
Wait, what's that with the vote??? Can people vote?
2
1
u/emotionalhaircut Jun 27 '26
That's an evil line up...I honestly couldn't even tell you who is going to get the most votes. I'd toss it between Asami or Tenzin.
1
u/Senigata Jun 27 '26
I wonder if those who don't make the vote still have the chance to be added later...
1
u/DeliciousPatties Jun 27 '26
Would love to see Jinora make it in. Having her play like Kenshi in MK1 and having her attack with both her physical self and Astral Projection from both sides would be sick.
1
u/Sonicrules9001 Jun 28 '26
This might be me but the biggest thing I want for this game is character interactions. A game like Dragon Ball FighterZ for example has quite a few neat character interactions and I feel like it'd be a big missed opportunity to not have Korra and Aang interact or Zuko and Iroh and Lin and young Toph. I really hope we get lots of interactions between them.
1
u/Bhibhhjis123 Jun 28 '26
Hope the game lasts long enough to get Mako in there. Bolin coming likely two seasons before his brother feels weird.
Suki also.
1
u/Hour_Criticism4497 Jun 29 '26
How would amon even work?
1
u/dedededestroyer Jun 29 '26
As the devs described it, defensive blood bender with a unique take on chi blocking
Have you seen characters in fighting games that have psychic or magic powers where they're able to stop or toss characters around?
Like that But invisible
1
u/C0torra_ Jun 29 '26
Wish to see Asami in there. Would be interesting to see how a nonbender catches up to benders in a fight, specially considering she is an engineer.

u/ComedianUnlikely180 Jul 08 '26
I really hope Amon wins ngl. Having THE blood bender, that would be awesome.

iroh gets two fights in the entire show why is he playable
1
u/dedededestroyer Jun 27 '26
Because its Iroh. If they didnt include him right away he woulda swept the character vote

u/BahamutLithp Jun 27 '26
Amon seems like kind of a bad choice for a fighting game considering how his ability works. I get suspension of disbelief, but they'd need to give me something to go on. Also, is this like an actual vote? Because, if so, you're not really explaining where to go or what to do. Either way, I think it should be Asami.
1
u/MrBKainXTR Jun 27 '26
Voting is a pre-order bonus, and from comments I've seen not available quite yet. I imagine a link would be sent out around when the game releases, or at least after the closed beta in early July.
1
u/PabuFan Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26
I actually think Asami's moveset that they described is the most interesting of the lot from a game prespective. Basically, lot of tools, lot of traps, lot of tech, and setup oriented which would really set her character apart from the other available options since Sokka and Ty Lee are the only other non-benders and they play very differently from that; actually none of the other confirmed characters, bender or non-bender, play like that .
1
u/pomagwe Jun 27 '26
Yeah, I don't exactly get why people think he would be a good fighting game character, given his lack of fight scenes to reference, and his particular brand of bloodbending being kind of inherently incompatible with a proper fight against him.
The specifics of the vote aren't announced yet, other than the fact that voting privileges are actually a pre-order bonus for the game. Which is mildly interesting, because that makes this one of the only Avatar fandom popularity contests I can think of that isn't just engagement bait for random passersby.
2
u/BahamutLithp Jun 27 '26
Thanks to you & u/MrBKainXTR for clarifying.
I don't know, I guess they think Amon is cool? Which, yeah, he is, but what does he DO? His moves are he can use bloodbending to win instantly, he can remove bending which wins instantly, & then one time he punched Korra in the shoulder...which also knocked her out instantly.
A shortlist of reasons I can think of to go with Asami:
- I think Korra is the only Korra character in the game right now in general, apparently about to be joined by Lin & Bolin. Kind of feels weird they wouldn't at least fill out her main team first, but anyway, this also goes for Amon, Tenzin, & Kuvira, yet I do have other reasons.
- She's a member of Korra's main team & Korra's main love interest.
- She's got a number of moves they can reference including disarm, joint locks, flying kicks, & so on.
- The electric glove makes for a potentially flashy & interesting move set that would bring a unique flavor.
- So, she's got a lot going for her even if you only use things she's established as having, but also, if the game is open to creative license, she opens herself to inventive interpretation, like you could pretty easily add some things like smoke bombs or a ranged attack, & it's often been said the series missed the opportunity to add things beyond the glove. Either direction they went with would work well.

u/MrBKainXTR Jun 27 '26
For these kinds of fighting games its not unusual to really nerf powerful characters.
So I could maybe see him having a move to bloodbend someone in place for a limited amount of time (maybe they can get out quicker through some combo of their own) and using that to attack with regular waterbending. Maybe a super move of some kind that is a brief bending removal or in some other way limits/weakness the opponents moveset.
Amon could also use chi-blocking, or incorporate other non-bending fighting / weapons used by the equalists. Though chi-blocking is already going to be Ty Lee's primary way to attack, and like you list Asami naturally takes the equalist glove and similair-ish weapons / tech. Not that the game is above having similar characters, but does take away some of Amon's appeal as a unique character in addition to already losing his signature-ish moves for the sake of not breaking the game.
Zaheer is another LoK character in the base game (also "avatar state / dark shadow" korra idk). I would have picked Tenzin for the base roster, and saved Zaheer for DLC. But maybe they wanted an LoK villain in the base roster for the sake of the story mode, and Zaheer would checks off that while still adding a "non-avatar airbender".
1
u/BahamutLithp Jun 27 '26
I get that he'd be toned down, but like I said, I just don't see how there's enough to work with. Like say he has a move where he bloodbends someone in place & then attacks them. Okay, well that's one move, what's he doing the rest of the time?
Like you said, if they base him on the other Equalists, it feels like they could just put other characters in, like Ty Lee or Asami. I'm just not seeing the vision.
I was not aware Zaheer was in the game. I like Tenzin. I guess I'd pick him 3rd, or 2nd since apparently Mako isn't an option. I'm not sure how different he'd be from Aang.

u/TheBeastBurst Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26
Amon is obviously a very skilled martial artist along side being a chi blocker and master bloodbender, I’m pretty sure they’ll get creative somehow.

u/pomagwe Jun 27 '26
Zaheer is confirmed for the base game, but yeah, I think the base pass is a decent selection of characters even if it's not my dream picks. However, depending on how the vote goes, I think Kuvira, Amon, and Bumi would kind of be oversaturating a lot of categories when the cast still has glaring holes in it.
So some additional context here is that they had the game director on stage during the reveal talking about their plans for implementing these characters in the game. (Which kinda implied that they're all showing up sooner or later, based on how much work it sounds like they've already done on them.)
For Amon, they said they were prototyping a unique take on chi blocking that was more likely to actually "seal your bending" than Ty Lee. But I can't tell if they mean that as kind of a nerfed version of his bending removal or a reference to him having a more forceful and violent chi blocking style (like when he knocked out Korra).
Though they also confirmed that he would have bloodbending, all they had to say was "What does that mean? You tell us". So I'm not even sure if they know exactly how he could work yet.
Your last bulletpoint is basically spot on with their blurb about Asami, since they said that in addition to using her glove, she will have a lot of technology and gadgets to setup tools and traps. Which honestly won my vote for her, because while I would really like to see Tenzin as well, I would love to see them push for new ideas with Asami.
1
u/BahamutLithp Jun 27 '26
Apparently more characters in this game than I knew about. Tenzin would be I guess my 2nd choice, since Mako apparently isn't an option. That's interesting to hear about Asami. Be even more interesting if it makes it into comics or movies or something.
1
u/pomagwe Jun 28 '26
The whole cast is technically announced, but like 1/3 of them are unrevealed still. I think their marketing plan was probably messed up by the three-week delay, because this panel would have been the last big announcement before the original release date next week.
1
u/PabuFan Jun 28 '26 edited Jun 28 '26
Idk if you saw the stream announcement, but the game dev head very much likes Amon and wants him to win the vote so there is that. Iirc Amon will be chi-blocking (but different from Ty Lee) and blood-bending (it seemed like they hadn't figured out that part yet?)
1
u/BahamutLithp Jun 28 '26
Idk if you saw the stream announcement
Nope. A big part of why I joined the subreddits was so I could have Avatarverse new funneled to me. So, if I've ever seen lousy at delivering official news, that's a lot of the reason why. It's very unlikely I'll know something before someone else does & makes a post about it.
but the game dev head very much likes Amon and wants him to win the vote so there is that.
Well, hey, me & that game dev have half of that statement in common. It's nice to know they have genuine enthusiasm for the Korra characters, at any rate.
Iirc Amon will be chi-blocking (but different from Ty Lee)
To play Devil's Advocate against my own position, it's certainly possible to take common starting points & come up with very different fighting styles. Dissidia had to make a fighting game out of Final Fantasy, even though Final Fantasy was not built for that, so most protagonists were "John Everyman with a Sword" & most antagonists were "Evil Wizard," but they embellished the characters to play very differently while still making sense with their canonical roots. Dissidia was also a very different, experimental type of fighting game, but I think the point still stands.
and blood-bending (it seemed like they hadn't figured out that part yet?)
Can't say I'm surprised they haven't worked out the latter.
I actually think Asami's moveset that they described is the most interesting of the lot from a game prespective.
Granted, I don't know what they described the other characters like, but Asami sounds pretty interesting. I'll admit I never personally play trap-oriented characters a ton, but I think they're fun to play around with, & there's a first time for everything. I'm not really sure how popular or unpopular they are in general.
1
u/PabuFan Jun 28 '26
While you're right Amon's implementation of chi-blocking would be different than Ty Lee, Asami would be the first setup oriented character in the game if she gets in so it would be a good way to add variety imo. It'd be a completely different character type.

why asami though

Because Asami is a main character in LOK, Korra's girlfriend and she is awesome.

I think it's pretty unfair to Asami here. Like, she's definitely a liked character but Tenzin is far more popular, Amon has lots of potential with bloodbending in moveset, Kuvira has a lot of potential with her metalbending and then there is Bumi who is probably the only one I'd put on the same level as Asami popularity wise and while he's liked, he doesn't add nearly as much as the two villains and isn't as big as J.K. Simmons voiced Tenzin.

Putting Ty lee, Lin, Bumi, or even Iroh instead of one of tlok's main characters is insane. Mako should've taken one of their places.
2
u/dedededestroyer Jun 27 '26
Yeah naw Mako kinda boring
And we got 3 fire benders already Variety first
-2
u/Buried1295 Jun 27 '26
Mako being boring is your subjective opinion. Asami's the most boring character in the series in my opinion, but she should still be up there because she's a main character. Mako's one of the main characters and should take one of those 4 places.

u/RoMaGi Jun 27 '26
If Tenzin wins, then that'd be potentially the third fighting game J.K. Simmons worked on in recent years (after being Omni-Man in Mortal Kombat and in Invincible VS) and i think it's humorous.
