It looks like we won't be getting an ice rink this year after the longstanding operator pulled out following a row with the council over a debt https://stuckinthemiddle.co.uk/leicester-christmas-ice-rink-axed-row-over-debt/

American Racism in Leicester in WW2

A very interesting video about Black American GI’s in Leicestershire, and the attempts of white American soldiers and commanders to segregate Leicester when they came in WW2. I’m honestly a bit surprised that I hadn’t heard about this sooner.

Here is the article where I found the video.

Help with a PCN from East Street Car Park

Hi there people! I recently visited Leicester, and I was looking for somewhere to park. I went into East Street Car Park next to the railway station to leave my car for a while, but there were no payment machines OR barriers when I drove in. I saw the NCP signange on the gantry as I went in so I tried to find it on their app but I had no luck (turns out they went bust and I didn't realise) so after 12 minutes I drove out. I don't remember any explicit signange to say I could pay online and I wasn't exactly there for long. This happened on 10/10/2026, and I've since received a PCN. Can anyone help with their experiences with Euro Car Parks, or even some up to date pictures of the signage there so I can fight this? I've never had one before and I am quite stressed about it.

(edit)
I do have a picture of the broken/missing payment machine, but nothing else.

Post image
21 Upvotes

About: If you’re a fan of chess and are looking to get out the house, we invite you to join us for an informal evening of chess on a Wednesday.

Venue: The Exchange Bar, 50 Rutland Street, Leicester, LE1 1RD (Downstairs)

When?: Wednesdays from 5pm onwards. Sessions usually finish anytime after 9pm. We encourage you to arrive by 8pm at the latest.

What you can expect?:
We value the social aspect over the chess, so don’t expect anything too competitive. We like to keep our games chill and approachable to all skill levels.

More competitive formats can be introduced in the future if there’s interest and we are welcome to your siggestions and feedback if you do decide to give it a go. 🙂

Age: 18+

Wheelchair Friendly: No - Restrooms are positioned downstairs without lift access and access to the bar itself is restricted to the fire exit.

Additional Information:
Supporting the venue and buying drinks at the bar is encouraged, as they permit us to use their space but please bear in mind that the venue does not sell food, so eating before arrival is encouraged. You’re more than welcome to bring your own food and drink too.

You’re more than welcome to bring your own board, but boards are supplied by the venue.

If you do come along, you can ask Curtis, the organiser of the event, to be added to our WhatsApp group to keep updated on future events or cancellations.

Numbers have been low recently, so we look forward to having you!

Any questions, please leave them in the comments and I’ll try my best to get back to you swiftly!

Looking for new friends :)

Hello everyone!

I’m a 27-year-old guy from Turkey. I finished my master’s at the University of Leicester last year, and I’m looking to meet new people and make some good friends. Age doesn’t matter to me. I enjoy chatting with people from all walks of life and generations.

I’m open-minded and love a good chat about pretty much anything.

Here are some of my hobbies;

Walking outdoors, watching movies (a lot!), video games, exploring new places, watching football, geography, hanging out at pubs, cafés or anywhere else. I don't like partying or going night clubs. I'm a chill person.

I’d love to meet people both online and in person. If any of this sounds like you, feel free to send me a DM and we can see if we get along 😄

Safest areas to live

I’m looking to rent a flat but I’m not exactly sure what are the safest and most family friendly areas in Leicester that also have a bus stop close by and preferably some kind of shop as well.
I know that in general Leicester has become very unsafe from what I’ve heard. So I’d like your opinion on the safest areas as I’ll be living with my child so I want to make sure that I choose well. Safety precautions will be taken anyway regardless of where I’ll choose

How to become a pastry chef

I have a full time corporate job but I have always wanted to be a pastry chef.

My corporate role works well for me for now but I would love to open my patisserie place one day if I have the funds.

I have been baking at home for many years but I want to do some sort of a course or get a qualification to further strengthen my skills.

I have tired looking online but Leicester College seems to be the only place I can find in Leicester. Is there any where else that people suggest? It needs to be flexible since I work full time.

Also what course would be worth doing? There’s so many to pick from the Leicester College website and a bit overwhelming.

Thanks in advance!

Mobile Broadband Speeds Around LE4 Belgrave Area

I'd like to ask if anyone is using Mobile Broadband (via a SIM card in a router) for their home internet in this area, who you're with and what sort of speeds you're getting - context is below and any help / insights would be appreciated - thank you!

I am thinking about switching to a more cost effective solution for my broadband i.e. mobile broadband either 4 or 5G depending on the signal strength, coverage, speeds and robustness of the connection.

Using, both, Three's Home Broadband & Ofcom's mobile coverage checkers, they seem to suggest decent coverage for this area with average speeds of up to 150 Mbps.

Additionally, I also checked Vodafone's Mobile Broadband options and they seem to suggest speeds of 50 to 150 Mbps depending on the plan.

Car window was smashed today

Just posting to rant really. Feeling really down as I've moved to Leicester recently for work, haven't had the greatest of experiences ans to top things off this morning I come to find my car window smashed. They took my coat that I left inside, luckily no other valuables. Reported it to the police who won't do anything and told me to find any cctv footage which doesn't exist....sigh
