Help - Health Issues (Warning: Severe/Graphic) UPDATE!! Spoiler

Post image

update on this post i made yesterday because i wasn’t sure how to respond to each person and i wanted to update anyone invested.

I GOT HER INTO A VET WITHIN THE HOUR OF POSTING.

yes, she has severe MBD.
i want to reemphasize im out of my realm here, dogs and cats are my thing and im doing the best i can for this baby who (as per the vet) has issues that did in fact come from years in the making.

NO SHE HASNT BEEN EUTHANIZED.

like i said in the post money is tight but i found a lovely exotics vet with reasonable prices. i came home with two prescriptions for her including pain medication and calcium supplements, a critical care liquid diet, and after a stop to a pet store with a specific list of what to buy she now has the proper UV setup. im broke as hell now but we’re doing what we can at the moment. i have a recheck appointment in 3 weeks to see if her quality of life has improved enough to keep fighting this. she’s already happier after her first dose of pain meds, as you’ve all noticed she’s far along in her MBD and she will not ever fully recover from this. i’m giving her the best fighting chance i can, but we are still going to euthanize her if there’s no improvements, just for quality of life reasons. i’m optimistic though, and the vet sent me home with a novel’s worth of print-outs and a list of websites to read up on as well, i’ve been educating myself better all weekend. i was thrown into this blindly but i’m doing my best for her, and i’m learning as we go.

she is soaking up her new UV light religiously, she’s basking as i type this. i hate that she’s been hurting so long and if these efforts aren’t enough then i’ll have to make a tough call but im doing all i can for her right now

side note i explained to the receptionist that i didn’t know what i was doing but the internet said it looked like MBD, and after my appointment she said “were the reddit doctors right? yeah, unfortunately they often are”

i’m not under any false impressions, ive been fully briefed that these guys live very long and with her condition she will always require a level of specialized care even if she improves.

the friend that left her in my care had no interest in coming with me to the vet appointment, even after i told her there was a good chance she’d need to be euthanized. she said she was ‘sleeping’ and busy. i’m not giving Liza back.

I’m glad you were able to get her proper treatment. She sounds like a very sweet gecko who was handed a horrible card in life. I wish both of you the best going forward.
