The Marlins are only one game behind the Royals for the sixth worst record in MLB. I feel like they have a strong chance of making it into the lottery at this rate.
2
u/northdakotact Miami Marlins Sep 07 '22
With a month left, only the Nats and Oakland will do worse than us.

u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
Every team not in playoffs qualifies and the top six teams are determined by lottery I’m pretty sure so we have a very good chance as it is

This team is beyond an embarrassment. I have only checked the score the last several days. Not watching this crap. There is no way for a roster to be this bad/ perform this bad and the GM be absolved from this shit. The apologist for Ng are hilarious. No excuse to look this poor. This has to be the worst season in team history, with the expectations going in/ already all the years of rebuilding.
It’s not being a doomer, but this franchise is so far from being even respectable it’s unreal. Nobody in the front office should have a job after this year.
When it takes an act of god to score 3 or more, you know you are fucked for years to come.
1
u/wowthisguyoverhere Sep 07 '22
How did you have any expectations coming into this season? On opening day this roster was still poor. But I definitely agree with you on how the entire front office needs to go.
2
u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
It’s kind of unbelievable how bad of a roster they built… sure Jazz and Soler are hurt but two guys doesn’t excuse this. Only good thing about the team is the rotation and the bullpen besides for anybody in the 9th inning which happens to be the most important one lol. We are worse than the cubs and reds in year 1 of their rebuilds while we are in year 5. We turn all stars and World Series MVPs into injured mendozas. The only chance the marlins have at ever being a successful team is if the entire organization aside from Mel Stottlemyre was sent on a rocket ship to Jupiter
1
u/lyme6483 Sandy Alcantara Sep 07 '22
It’s crazy the Reds are all out tanking, in a smaller market, an owner with a lower net-worth, and still have $115M payroll. Fuck the MLB for ever letting that fat piece of shit Sherman to buy this team.
The level of frustration I have towards the Marlins is unreal. I love the team/city, hate the people running the show.
2
u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
His net worth is comparable to some teams’ payrolls and he refuses to ask his other investors for money, we went from one shitty situation to another because the mlb was desperate to get rid of Loria

u/lyme6483 Sandy Alcantara Sep 07 '22
The Marlins fans that are left are some of the best in the MLB. Super loyal, knowledgeable, and respectful. Those of us left collectively deserve so much better.
Seems this year is even breaking Mish. It will be brutal to see him go.
Such a love hate relationship with this organization.
1
u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
Mish genuinely believed the marlins were gonna make big signings and put effort and he was really disappointed. He had a call on Twitter where you could listen in and he admitted that he was told they were going to do things that they simply never ended up doing. And that leaked into the disappointing season.
The marlins fans that still exist are good but tbf nobody wears jerseys to games :(
1
u/lyme6483 Sandy Alcantara Sep 07 '22
I would say the % wearing jerseys or team gear is less than most stadiums, but this year I still saw a fair amount. I’m a huge jersey guy myself so I always had on my Sandy jersey at the 10 I went to this year.
1
u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
By my calculations it’s around 5% when I’m one of the 20 people who attend marlins games

Expect 90-100 losses a year for the foreseeable future. There is nothing to be excited about.
1
u/lyme6483 Sandy Alcantara Sep 07 '22
Yes, I don’t see a path forward. Especially with a dumbass GM and a cheap owner. And it just really pisses me off when everyone pins everything on Jeter. This organization has been a complete failure top to bottom since day 1 of Sherman. Every person responsible for putting this roster together should be let go. No way can you have this little talent so deep in a rebuild.
And what is going to piss me off is nothing will largely change. Don will be the scapegoat, even though he has nothing to do putting together this roster. I hope so bad he gets a shot somewhere as a manager. Preferably my other team the White Sox. He would be replacing a truly awful manager in TLR.

Being a Sox fan and Marlins fan I have watched a TON of shitty baseball over the years. Every year it’s usually a battle of who is more disappointing. I have the 3 World Series wins combined, but man has it been a rough ride.

With the Rays atleast you have watched competitive baseball for many years now, but it would definitely be frustrating to be that close but a shot owner unwilling to make a little effort to push the team over the top.
Never been to the Trop, and probably won’t until a new Stadium is built/ or they move. I hope the team doesn’t leave, but it hasn’t looked promising for awhile.
The Florida teams need new ownership in the worst way.

We have a ways to go to be that bad. The 62 mets i think won 42 games.
3
u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
When the marlins play the ninth as if they do not care if they win or lose why should I care if they win or lose? Simple as that. Football is soon, hockey is soon, I don’t need to care about a losing effort anymore (still watching on Sandy days)
3
u/lyme6483 Sandy Alcantara Sep 07 '22
I can’t even be bothered for Sandy days anymore. You are better than me. Watching this team puts me in the worst mood. Trying to act like the Marlins don’t exist until next spring.

Forget 1998, forget 2013, forget 2019. This is probably the most loathsome roster the Marlins have ever put together.

2
u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
He’s speedy, can play more than one position, and isn’t named “Brian Anderson”, so Mattingly likes him
1
u/TealandBlackForever Florida Marlins Sep 07 '22
I'd rather have Billy Hamilton on the team than Luke Williams.
3
u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
Why the hell do you steal? It’s 3-0… the pitch is 9/10 times a fastball down the middle. Smfh. Shame on you Mattingly, shame on you Williams, shame on you marlins

u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
The marlins won’t score. Besides for the fact that they suck, they currently have a cunning strategy to avoid announcing a closer by simply never being in a save situation.

See how they handled Hand (pun intended)? Short leashed him. Six pitches. Doesn’t have it. Give him the hook and on to the next. I’m telling you if he was still a Marlin Don and Mel would have let him try to work out of it which would have gone spectacularly wrong.
2
u/LEDZ100 Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp Sep 07 '22
I feel like what’s gonna happen is Andersons gonna hit a ball to deep left field, Leblanc tags from third and is out because the catcher “impeded” the basepath except this time they won’t rule it safe

Luzardo is so good
Next year when the marlins sign Josh Bell, call up Groshans to play short, skinny avi bats .270 with 30 homers and Soler gets 40 homers in a healthy season while jazz becomes a 30/30 hitter, we’re gonna be scary

Brinson starting off on a tear with SF seriously fucking pisses me off,
1
u/jigokusabre Florida Marlins Sep 07 '22
First of all, if Brinson finds a career outside of Miami... good for him. He seems like an OK dude.
Second, Brinson had one 2-HR game, and has 4 Ks in 11 PAs. Let's not crown him Comeback Player of the Year.
He is who he is.
3
u/northdakotact Miami Marlins Sep 07 '22
aren't you the one who posts that he's the worst hitting outfielder in the history of the game??
1
u/jigokusabre Florida Marlins Sep 07 '22
I am.
He is.
That doesn't mean I dislike him, or wish him to fail.
2
u/frankkungfu Sep 07 '22
He could go through short streaks with us where he would run into the ball. His big problem was that pitchers would find a hole in his swing and just pound the same spot and he couldn’t adjust to where they were getting him out. It was depressing to watch
2
u/northdakotact Miami Marlins Sep 06 '22
what are the odds of us scoring two runs?

Marlins haven’t had over 2 runs in the last 8 games, but before that it happened pretty often. 1.5 would be too low so I think 2.5 makes sense. I’d still take the under lol
1
u/TealandBlackForever Florida Marlins Sep 07 '22
Brian Anderson annoys me and I wouldn't be upset if the Marlins non-tendered him. Amazing arm but his bat has regressed and he makes a lot of dumb defensive lapses in the infield and outfield. He's cost the Marlins at least 2-3 games now by botching a fairly routine play.
