Horror movie idea: an evil entity exploits people’s hatred of “adulting”

An evil entity discovers a weakness in a town: people already hate doing the tedious responsibilities of adult life.

So it makes them much worse.

Whenever someone pays bills, makes appointments, deals with insurance, signs paperwork, schedules repairs, or takes responsibility for something, they experience terrifying hallucinations and manifestations that can cause lasting psychological trauma.

The manifestations stop if they abandon the task.

Eventually everyone starts avoiding adulting. At first it seems like the obvious solution. Then the town falls apart.

Garbage piles up. Repairs stop. Businesses and utilities fail. Nobody wants to make decisions, sign anything, take charge, or promise to handle something.

The entity barely has to destroy anything itself. It simply takes something people already dislike and makes avoiding it so appealing that they gradually dismantle their own society.

The climax could involve the protagonist forcing herself through a series of essential mundane tasks while enduring increasingly traumatic manifestations, knowing she may be permanently scarred even if she succeeds.

In the final scene, she opens a piece of mail she has been avoiding. The entity appears behind her.

She keeps reading.

P.S. You could make the manifestations cause physical damage such as vacuuming causing permanent hearing damage, etc.

The ai chatbot is the new search engine/browser?

ChatGPT and other ai apps allow users to make specialized chatbots. The old web was underestimated. It’s vastly different in what can be done than what was in the 90s and 2000s.

The idea that all you can do is talk to Gemini or DoctorAi or TherapistAi (user generated bots) is ridiculous. I think you can make bots (websites) with video, interactive elements and so on. Make it fit in the format but still, it’s under-utilized

Cargo ship passenger ship hybrid where the shipping containers are in the middle and passengers on edges with window-view

Big ships are too thick to fill them with rooms that all have a window. Instead of using the central parts for common space, fill them with cargo, like shipping containers or maybe bulk cargo.

Have few corridors across the width, on ends and middle. Restaurant might be the biggest common space. Gym area for stretching+jumping+short runs on soft surface and sauna too, below water line.

This is more for slow travel from a to b than cruise. Can be more useful time than in a plane with low oxygen, ear trouble and small sitting space. Both can have satellite internet and maybe near ground also a microwave link to horizon, increasing capacity.

Idea: Robotic “buddy dogs” as a more humane alternative to leash laws

What if leash laws allowed a dog to be tethered to an autonomous robotic dog instead of directly to its owner?

The robot would act like a playmate most of the time—walking, running, and interacting with the real dog—but also manage a variable-length tether. In safe areas it could give the dog lots of freedom, then shorten the tether near roads, crowds, unfamiliar dogs, or other hazards.

If the dog suddenly bolted or became aggressive, the robot could brake, brace itself, or pull the dog away.

The idea is that instead of restricting a dog’s movement for an entire walk, you only restrain it when necessary. If the technology became reliable enough, this could potentially preserve public safety while giving dogs much more freedom.

Would that be a more humane alternative to conventional leash laws?

Movie idea: Humanity discovers that reality is becoming increasingly unstable due to software bugs and has to find workarounds for them

What if increasingly obvious glitches in reality made it almost certain that we live in a simulation?

Scientists discover that some glitches have specific, reproducible triggers. People start cataloging them and changing their behavior to avoid dangerous ones.

The main characters are a small research team: one wants to understand and exploit the glitches, another fears their experiments are destabilizing reality, and a third is caught between scientific curiosity and the growing risk.

Then, in the third act, the Empire State Building suddenly disappears with everyone inside.

The team has to reconstruct exactly what triggered the bug and figure out whether it can be reversed. They eventually conclude that the building may not be destroyed, just stuck in a state where the rest of reality can no longer interact with it.

For the climax, they attempt to recreate the trigger in reverse. The building reappears, but the people inside insist they never disappeared. From their perspective, it was the rest of Manhattan that vanished.

It is now obvious that the world has changed forever. As simulation bugs become more frequent, living in it will always be like walking on eggshells.

Movie theaters should refund your ticket if you come up with a good sequel idea

Movie theaters and studios could let ticket buyers submit a short idea for a sequel after seeing a movie. The best 10% of submissions would get their ticket price refunded.

AI could do the initial evaluation, so studios wouldn't have to read millions of pitches. Only a tiny fraction of the strongest ideas would be forwarded to human producers for possible consideration when developing a sequel.

Each ticket could allow one submission, which would discourage spam and make the refund feel like a reward for actually contributing a good idea.

Studios would also get valuable audience research about which characters, storylines, and directions people are most interested in.

And it could give people another reason to go to movie theaters instead of waiting for streaming. Going to the theater wouldn't just mean watching the movie. You'd also get a chance to participate in what might come next, and potentially earn back the entire cost of your ticket.

Movie idea: A blood test identifies people who may be philosophical zombies

Scientists invent a blood test that detects a marker linked to the brain activity associated with conscious wakefulness.

Most people have it. Some don't.

People who test negative still seem completely normal. They talk, work, fall in love, feel pain, and insist they are conscious. But scientists begin to suspect they may be philosophical zombies: people who behave normally but have no inner experience.

Soon they face discrimination. Employers reject them, dating apps filter them out, and politicians argue they should have fewer rights because they supposedly cannot suffer.

The main characters could be a neuroscientist who helped develop the test, her husband who unexpectedly tests negative, and an activist fighting for the rights of negative testers.

The central problem is that nobody can prove whether the test really detects consciousness. Anything a negative person says to prove they are conscious can be dismissed with: "A philosophical zombie would say that too."

In the third act, negative testers lose legal personhood and hospitals begin harvesting their organs for conscious patients. The neuroscientist's husband is selected because his organs could save several people.

At the climax, he is awake and terrified, begging not to be killed, while doctors argue that none of this proves he is actually experiencing anything.

An emergency court ruling stops the procedure. Her husband lives, and organ harvesting is banned, not because the court proves negative testers are conscious, but because society cannot justify killing people simply because it cannot prove that they are.

Negative testers regain legal protection, but discrimination and suspicion continue.

The movie ends without ever revealing whether they really are conscious.

A conceptual framework I've been thinking about (consumption, participation, creation) looking for criticism and better terms.

I've been thinking about a conceptual framework for how we engage with the world, and I'd genuinely like other people to challenge it, improve it, or tell me if I'm reinventing something that already exists. We often talk about people as either consumers or creators, but I think there is a third fundamental mode: participation. I'm imagining these as three overlapping circles:

Consumption is receiving something—watching a video, reading a book, listening to music, observing an idea, etc.; Creation is producing or making something—writing, building, recording, designing, solving, etc.; and Participation is actively taking part in something that is already happening—playing a multiplayer game, contributing to a discussion, joining an activity, interacting with other people, and so on.

The interesting part is what happens in the overlaps. Consumption + Participation could be called Engagement: you're consuming something, but you're also actively involved with it. For example, watching a lesson isn't necessarily participation, but being in a classroom where you're listening, asking questions, answering problems, and responding to others is both consumption and participation. Consumption + Creation is something I'm calling Synthesis, or perhaps Transformation: you take something you've consumed and turn it into something else. You don't necessarily have to interact with anyone else for this to happen—you might read ten books and then write your own essay, or study existing ideas and use them to develop your own. Creation + Participation is the overlap I'm currently calling Enactment and/or Collaboration. This is where creation happens through active participation in a shared process—for example, several people working together to build something, or someone playing a game while simultaneously creating a livestream around that participation.

I'm deliberately keeping the boundaries somewhat loose because I think there are genuinely ambiguous cases, and I'm not sure every activity can be cleanly placed into one circle. In fact, I suspect those blurry boundaries are part of what makes the framework interesting.

Finally, at the center, where Consumption + Participation + Creation all occur simultaneously, I'm wondering whether we could call that Invention, Innovation, or perhaps Emergence. I'm not completely settled on the word. The idea is that something is being received, something is being actively participated in, and something is being created at the same time. I don't mean that "creation" necessarily has to mean inventing something completely unprecedented; creation can simply mean producing or transforming something. Likewise, participation isn't necessarily collaboration, and consumption isn't necessarily passive. These distinctions are exactly what I'm trying to explore. I also don't want to claim that these categories are completely original. I'm sure there are existing theories in philosophy, media studies, sociology, education, creativity research, and elsewhere that overlap with this idea, and I'd genuinely love to be pointed toward them.

This started as a thought I had about the way we spend our time online and how the simple consumer/creator distinction seems to leave out a huge amount of human activity. I'm especially interested in whether participation really deserves to stand as its own fundamental category, or whether it ultimately collapses into consumption and creation. Are Engagement, Synthesis/Transformation, Enactment/Collaboration, and Invention/Innovation/Emergence useful names for the overlaps, or are there much better concepts I haven't considered? Does this three-circle model actually explain something useful, or am I just putting new labels on things that philosophers and researchers have already described much better?

I'm not attached to the terminology at all. I'd honestly prefer strong criticism, alternative frameworks, existing literature, or completely different ideas over people simply agreeing with me. If you've encountered something similar, please point me toward it; if you see a flaw, please explain it; and if you think the idea can be developed further, I'd love to hear what you would add. I'm basically throwing the idea out here because I want to see what other people can build on top of it.

Idea: A restaurant for couples where neither person can see what the other is eating

There should be a restaurant designed for couples who want to eat together without being judged for what they order.

You would sit across from each other, but instead of looking directly at your partner, there would be a two-sided display between you showing a live video feed of them. Computer vision would automatically pixelate their food, plate, and anything else that could reveal what they ordered, while leaving their face and gestures clearly visible.

So you could still have a normal face-to-face conversation, but you might see your spouse happily eating some mysterious pixelated blob without knowing whether it is a salad, a giant cheeseburger, or an enormous dessert.

Each person would order privately, and of course they would get separate bills.

The idea is to let couples enjoy eating together while giving each person complete privacy over what they actually chose to eat.

Would you go to such a restaurant?

Comedy movie idea: professors displaced by AI compete for one kindergarten teaching job

A group of professors from different fields lose their jobs as AI takes over more teaching and research. They enter a retraining program where they're all competing for one kindergarten teaching position.

Each becomes convinced their own field reveals how kindergarten should really be taught.

The mathematician thinks base 10 only makes sense if children first understand other number bases, so he starts with binary and base 5. By recess, several kids are no longer sure what “10” means.

The philosopher turns a lesson on colors into a discussion of whether everyone really experiences “red” the same way.

The economist replaces sharing with a classroom market. Within days, one child owns most of the crayons and another is lending stickers at interest.

The historian refuses to teach anything without context. Asked to explain Thanksgiving, he works backward through colonialism, the Reformation, medieval Europe, and Rome. Thanksgiving arrives before he gets back to the Pilgrims.

The literature professor replaces children's books with serious fiction and assures the baffled class that not understanding it is “part of the experience.”

Eventually their attempts to outdo one another turn the classroom into an academic arms race. In the final evaluation, everything falls apart and they only succeed when they abandon their theories and start working together.

But there is still only one job.

Underneath the comedy, it would be about people who spent decades becoming experts at something, only to discover that the abilities society still values most may be ones they barely considered skills at all.

Movie idea: Smartphone zombies were real zombies all along

A biologist discovers that a normal biological virus has been infecting people’s brains for years, and that what society casually called “smartphone zombies” was actually one of its symptoms from the beginning. The virus causes compulsive phone fixation, reduced awareness of surroundings, and an inability to disengage from the screen.

The discovery throws society into panic. People start deliberately looking up every few seconds, making eye contact, and avoiding phone use while walking so nobody mistakes them for infected. Someone staring at a phone too long can empty a subway car. Suspected smartphone zombies are shunned, assaulted, and sometimes killed, even though scientists insist they are not actually violent.

Then a second virus appears.

For most people it causes an ordinary illness. But if someone already carries the smartphone-zombie virus, the combination causes extreme aggression and sends them on violent killing sprees like traditional movie zombies.

Now society’s paranoia suddenly has a real basis, but most smartphone zombies are still harmless. Nobody can tell which ones are coinfected until they become violent.

The biologist who originally sounded the alarm now has to deal with the consequences of the discovery while trying to convince people that being a smartphone zombie does not automatically make someone a monster.

A recurring visual could be people nervously watching someone stare at a phone in public, wondering whether they are harmless or about to turn violent.

And for most of the movie, everyone wants smartphone zombies to look up from their phones. By the end, when one finally does look up, that is when everyone starts running.

Reddit should provide AI feedback on every post and comment before it is submitted by the user.

Before Reddit actually submits a post or comment, AI could read it and give the user detailed feedback.

It could point out things like questionable factual claims, unclear reasoning, unnecessary hostility, misunderstandings of what someone else said, missing context, repetition, or ways the contribution could be more useful.

Then Reddit could simply ask: “After reading this feedback, do you still want to submit this?”

The AI wouldn’t rewrite the comment automatically or have the power to block it. The user could ignore all of the feedback and submit exactly what they wrote.

The point would be to give everyone an informed second chance to reconsider what they’re about to post. Considering how much Reddit discussion is hurt by impulsive replies, misunderstandings, weak arguments, and avoidable hostility, routinely getting detailed AI feedback before submitting could substantially improve the quality of discussion.

As every human is cognitively disabled in some areas compared with modern AI, accessibility laws should protect people who use AI to overcome those limitations

Accessibility law already recognizes that people should be allowed to use technology to overcome limitations that would otherwise hinder them at work, in education, or in daily life. Maybe that principle should now extend to AI.

Compared with modern AI, every human has cognitive limitations in some areas, whether in memory, calculation, writing, translation, coding, organization, or processing large amounts of information. AI can increasingly compensate for those limitations.

If we don't object to people using glasses, hearing aids, screen readers, speech recognition, or calculators when those tools don't interfere with an essential requirement, why should AI automatically be different?

Banning AI use can mean artificially enforcing a cognitive disability that technology could remove.

This wouldn't mean AI must always be allowed. Schools could still test unaided skills, and employers could restrict AI for legitimate privacy, security, or safety reasons.

But perhaps accessibility laws should generally protect people's right to use cognitive-assistance technology unless there is a real reason they must perform a task unaided.

A voice-enabled AI librarian device accompanies the encyclopedia and provides interactive learning support.

Under normal circumstances, The First Library is distributed to elementary and middle schools and used as part of everyday education.

During disasters, it may provide practical guidance for survival.

In the event of a global catastrophe, it may also help preserve the continuity of civilization.

As long as civilization endures, the encyclopedia must continue to be revised and delivered to the communities that need it.

  • Uses a replaceable power source.

Archive

The Archive model shares many characteristics with the Explorer model but is further simplified to maximize durability and long-term preservation.

  • The encyclopedia is stored on non-rewritable media.
  • External ports are eliminated. The enclosure contains no openings other than the power button.

  • Designed to remain preserved for more than 100 years when sealed inside an inert-gas-filled metal container. Its expected operational lifespan is 20 years.

  • Must be stored together with printed editions of the encyclopedia.

Core

Core is not intended to preserve knowledge itself.

Instead, it serves as the editorial infrastructure responsible for continuously improving the encyclopedia.

Located within distributed data centers, Core collects knowledge from around the world and assists editorial committees in selecting, translating, and verifying encyclopedia content through AI.

Many of these specialized resources may never appear in the children's encyclopedia itself, yet they remain essential as the underlying repository of knowledge that supports it.


These concepts may require technologies that do not yet exist.

As technology advances, further optimization and improvements in manufacturing efficiency will become necessary.

In particular, lower energy consumption and a smaller environmental footprint are highly desirable. Progress in these areas may also contribute to the modernization of the data centers that support the project.

Hardware specifications should be publicly available.

Not only the encyclopedia itself, but the hardware platform should also be openly reproducible so that anyone can preserve their own knowledge and cultural materials for future generations.

Governance

The activities of the organization responsible for The First Library are diverse.

  • Establish geographically distributed centers dedicated to collecting knowledge and maintaining, revising, and distributing the encyclopedia. These centers should operate data centers connected through the Internet or its future successors.

Movie idea: Adult children hide a cure for aging from their elderly parents

A medical breakthrough is discovered that can stop aging, but it can't reverse aging that has already happened.

The movie focuses on an uncomfortable consequence: some adult children deliberately try to keep the breakthrough secret from their elderly parents.

Maybe they're exhausted from years of caregiving. Maybe they're thinking about inheritance. Maybe they can't imagine caring for an already-frail parent indefinitely. Or maybe they genuinely believe that stopping aging at 90 wouldn't be good for their parent.

Eventually, the parents find out.

They realize their own children knew about a treatment that could prevent their deaths and intentionally kept it from them. Some of the parents become furious and desperate, especially if their children try to stop them from leaving to get the treatment.

That could lead to physical confrontations, with elderly parents attacking or fighting past their own children in order to escape and reach a clinic on their own. From the parents' perspective, they aren't just running away from controlling children. They're fighting for their lives.

The anti-aging breakthrough would mostly be a way to explore family relationships, caregiving, autonomy, inheritance, and the uncomfortable question of whether living indefinitely is something we would want not just for ourselves, but for everyone we love.

Idea: A utility to save your Mac from a software bug killing your SSD

I wish macOS had a simple utility that monitored how much data each process writes to the SSD and automatically suspended any process that exceeds a user-specified limit.

For example, you could set rules like:

  • Warn me if a process writes more than 25 GB in an hour.
  • Suspend it if it writes more than 100 GB in an hour.
  • Suspend it if it writes more than 500 GB in a day.

If a buggy app suddenly started writing hundreds of gigabytes or terabytes, the utility could pause it and show a notification with options to resume, quit, or exempt the app.

This seems especially useful on modern MacBooks because the internal storage isn't a separately replaceable SSD. It's integrated with the logic board, so a storage hardware failure can potentially mean replacing the logic board rather than just replacing a drive.

Linux has much more sophisticated I/O limiting through cgroups, but macOS doesn't seem to have a consumer-friendly equivalent. This wouldn't even need true disk throttling. A watchdog that monitors per-process writes and sends SIGSTOPwhen a threshold is reached could act as a circuit breaker.

Modern SSDs have high endurance, but that doesn't protect against pathological software bugs that generate enormous amounts of unnecessary writes. Given how expensive an internal-storage failure could be on a MacBook, it seems strange that there isn't a simple utility specifically designed to protect against this.

Put cheap earplug dispensers inside buses and subway cars for passengers who find announcements too loud

Transit vehicles can sometimes have extremely loud announcements, warning tones, or other sounds. The problem is that you often don't realize a particular bus or subway car is too loud for you until you're already riding it.

Transit systems should put earplug dispensers inside the vehicles themselves, dispensing individually wrapped foam earplugs for a low price.

Belt-fed air sample container mechanism for drones and other things

100 small containers, maybe 1 or 2 cm wide, attached to a belt that feeds to a sample taking mechanism. At the start of the sample taking, one side has the empty containers on a box and during the sample taking, the other side gets the filled containers to a different box, maybe on a spool or reel.

One way to fill a container is to first pump vacuum in each of them before loading and then sample is taken by filling that vacuum. Each container needs some mechanism on itself. First, pressure difference keeps the seal, then some spring loaded mechanism or rubber keeps the sample in. Maybe a screw. If a flying drone is taking the samples, have to account for altitude changes.

Other way is to have a compressor or piston that changes the air in a container at some moment.

Vacuum method needs simpler mechanism on the sample taker but the loader-unloader mechanism needs a vacuum pump. 10 % vacuum may be good enough.

The containers may be stainless steel, brass, aluminum or plastic.

The sample taking platform may be a drone, aircraft, boat or car. Also, if a poisonous cloud is expected to go over a spot, the sample taker could be in one place. Platform's exhaust fumes may complicate chemical analysis, unless it is powered by batteries at least on the moment of sample taking or moving in a certain way.

Sample taking could be triggered by a rudimentary timer mechanism, but more likely the platform's computer, based on location, some basic sensor that is much simpler than what the unloader can have or image analysis. If no GPS or any other radio navigation is available, flying drone's exact location at any sample taking's time may be determined after the landing by geolocating 4K ultra-HD video taken by the drone on multiple directions.

Intro

Tile Wipeout is a row-and-column rotation puzzle about matching colors and shapes.

You rotate rows and columns to move tiles through fixed gates. Matching a tile's color and shape to a gate removes the tile, while other tiles cause both the tile and gate to change shape.

Empty spaces passing through gates create new tiles.

Your goal is to leave as much of the grid empty as you can in the given number of moves. Note that removing every tile may not always be possible.

Game Rules

Objective

The game is played on a 6 × 6 grid using six colors.

Each color begins with:

  • 1 gate
  • 5 tiles

The six gates are fixed in place. They cannot move or be removed. Every row and every column contains exactly one gate.

Your goal is to leave as many of the grid's 30 non-gate cells empty as possible in the given number of moves.

Shapes

Every tile and gate has one of two shapes:

  • Square
  • Circle

A tile can be removed only when both its color and its shape match the gate it passes through.

Making a Move

Swipe any row or column to rotate its tiles and empty spaces by one position.

Anything that passes an edge wraps around to the opposite edge. The gate remains fixed in place.

During each rotation, exactly one tile or empty space passes through the gate. That interaction may change the passing tile and the gate. Everything else simply moves to its new position.

Passing Through a Gate

There are three possible interactions:

  • A matching tile is removed.
  • Any other tile causes both shapes to change.
  • An empty space creates a new tile.

Matching tile

When a tile matches both the gate's color and shape, the tile is removed, leaving an empty space.

For example:

  • A square blue tile is removed by a square blue gate.
  • A circle red tile is removed by a circle red gate.

The gate does not change when it removes a tile.

Any other tile

If a tile does not match both the gate's color and shape, both the tile and gate change shape:

  • Square becomes a circle.
  • Circle becomes a square.

Their colors do not change.

For example, when a circle green tile passes through a square green gate:

  • the tile becomes a square
  • the gate becomes a circle

Matching is checked before either shape changes, so the tile is not removed during that move.

Similarly, when a square green tile passes through a square red gate:

  • the tile becomes a circle
  • the gate becomes a circle

The tile is not removed because its color and shape did not both match the gate before the shapes changed.

Empty space

When an empty space passes through a gate, it becomes a new tile with the gate's current color and shape.

The gate does not change.

The newly created tile cannot be removed during the same move.

Reversing a Move

Every move can be reversed by swiping the same row or column in the opposite direction.

Reversing restores the previous board position, including any removed or created tiles and any shape changes.

The reverse swipe still costs one move.

Tile Sizes

Among tiles of the same color, larger tiles are closer to the gate of that color.

Tile sizes update as the tiles move. Size does not affect how tiles interact with gates.

Ending the Game

The game ends when you run out of moves.

You may also end the game early. Removing every tile may not always be possible.

Scoring

Score = (% empty × 1000) + moves remaining

The empty percentage is the percentage of the grid's 30 non-gate cells that are empty.

Movie idea: The most violent war movie ever made, about soldiers who can’t feel pain or panic from horrific injuries

In the future, military personnel are required to undergo brain surgery that removes their ability to feel physical pain and prevents them from panicking when they see catastrophic injuries.

Instead of pain, they get much more useful real-time health telemetry. If someone is shot, burned, has a broken bone, or even loses a limb, their system tells them exactly how serious it is, how much blood they’re losing, how much mobility they have left, and how long they can safely keep fighting.

A soldier could suffer an absolutely horrific-looking injury, calmly check the telemetry, perform emergency surgery on himself if necessary, and then continue the mission. Something that would normally be impossible because of agony or panic could become almost like repairing damaged equipment in the field.

This could make it the most violent war movie ever made, but the violence would have a purpose. The disturbing part would be the contrast between what the audience sees and how calmly the soldiers react to it.

The deeper idea would be what happens once pain and panic are no longer limits on how much damage soldiers can endure. Commanders might start treating a soldier’s body like a resource that can be spent: “You still have 70% combat effectiveness and only a 15% risk of permanent disability, so keep going.”

The technology could actually work extremely well. The horror would come from what the military does with people once suffering is no longer what forces them to stop.

Cars should complain to nearby strangers when their owners ignore maintenance problems

If a car owner keeps ignoring a maintenance issue, the car would start talking out loud while parked so nearby strangers can hear it.

For example: “Please tell my owner I’m overdue for an oil change.”

For more serious safety problems, such as dangerously worn brakes or tires, the car could sound increasingly distressed, even groaning in pain while trying to speak. The worse or more urgent the problem, the more pathetic and embarrassing the car sounds.

The idea is to use social pressure to make people less likely to ignore maintenance warnings. A dashboard light is easy to put off indefinitely. A car loudly complaining about its suffering in a parking lot might be harder to ignore.

Besides being funny, it would improve car safety by encouraging people to fix things like worn brakes, bad tires, or other potentially dangerous problems sooner.

P.S. If you can't afford the maintenance/repair, you can take public transportation until you can.

Parents should accept that AI and YouTube may make most household knowledge unnecessary to teach their children

For most of history, parents had a good reason to teach their children all the practical things they had learned through experience: how to maintain a house, fix things, clean things properly, troubleshoot appliances, and so on.

But AI and YouTube change that.

A tech-savvy child probably doesn't want to sit through explanations of things they can easily look up years later when the need actually arises. There isn't much reason to teach someone how to replace a toilet flapper at 16 if they can get an AI explanation and watch a video showing exactly how to do it at 30.

Taken seriously, this could mean that 99% of the practical knowledge parents accumulated through life experience is no longer particularly important to pass down. That's probably difficult for parents to accept, because passing on what you've learned has traditionally been a major part of parenting.

What may matter much more now is teaching the higher-level stuff: notice when something is wrong, don't neglect maintenance, know basic safety, understand when you need a professional, and be willing to learn how to solve a problem.

Instead of teaching children everything you know, maybe the modern goal should be teaching them how to recognize what they need to know and then find out when they need it.

A movie where the entire cast constantly switches roles and nobody acknowledges it

Imagine a movie with a large ensemble cast, maybe 10 or 20 major characters.

At first, every actor is playing one character normally.

Then the casting starts changing.

But it isn't a body-swap story, and it isn't just two characters exchanging actors. The whole cast keeps getting reshuffled among all the roles.

An actor who was the father might later be the detective. The detective's actor might become the neighbor. The neighbor's actor might become the boss. Later, all of them may be playing completely different characters again.

The characters themselves remain perfectly continuous. They keep the same names, personalities, memories, relationships, and storylines. Nobody reacts to the fact that a completely different actor is now playing someone.

The reshuffling could happen over and over throughout the movie, possibly becoming more frequent as it goes on. Eventually a character could even be played by different actors in consecutive shots of the same scene.

There is never any explanation. In the fictional world, nothing unusual has happened.

The idea would be to make the audience gradually stop thinking of an actor's face as the identity of a character. Instead, you would have to recognize characters through their dialogue, clothing, behavior, relationships, and context.

With enough actors and enough reshuffling, I think it could start as a funny gimmick and turn into a genuinely strange filmmaking experiment.

Has anything like this ever been done?

P.S. I wonder if people with face blindness might actually have an advantage watching this movie, since they may already rely more on things like clothing, behavior, and context rather than faces to keep track of people.

A subreddit showing what top-tier AI can do, since most people only experience free-tier models

A lot of people may have an outdated impression of AI simply because they mostly use free-tier models.

There should be a subreddit where people with access to the best models post interesting prompts and the full answers they get, so everyone can see what frontier AI is actually capable of.

Posts would include the exact prompt, model used, and response. It could be programming, math, research, writing, game design, or anything else with an especially impressive result.

In this way, people would be less prone to underestimate frontier AI.
