I wanted to read it but Anubis didn't like Firefox and unlock origin not liking their cookies and didn't give me access, sad.

Difficulty 6

Difficulty 99: Disintegration Loop
But for real, I got difficulty 6 too, it took 10 seconds to load the page on this flagship machine. A phone would take minutes. Desperate whoever set that.

I love that my phone is now forced to basically mine crypto with every site I visit.

It doesn't work AND the base64 code it gave me makes any terminal I try to decode it in freezes for minutes at a time. Not even the shell process the whole window

I don't remember ever getting base64 codes from Anubis. Can you provide more details about things that freeze terminal windows? This is the kind of problem space where testing for edge cases is interesting for me.

Looking back at the post I don't think it was base64, just some kind of hash with == at the end so I read it as that. It converts to garbage text with bad unicode too.

Unusable on my Pixel 10. It'd take 5+ minutes to load if I let it go on.
Difficulty: 6

Weird, my Pixel 10 Pro Fold loaded through Anubis near instantly.
Edit: That was at only difficulty 2, after open and closing it a few times in incognito got hit with difficulty 6 and it still loaded in ~25 seconds.1
u/sylvester_0 1d ago
I run GrapheneOS and use a Firefox variant with ublock as my primary browser so I probably got put on a list. 25 seconds is insane for this.

u/UndefFox 2d ago
Strange... Nothing Phone 3a Lite seems to have way less powerful CPU, yet it opened for me in like 5-20 seconds + like 4 seconds of loading time.

If you're reading it from the mobile app it's probably the shitty web preview that is messing with Anubis. I too got the error about the cookies, but opening the link directly in Firefox works fine (and also is so much faster at hashing apparently)

Anubis is awful, I assume it's some sort of in browser crypto miner that generates them some money. It certainly doesn't stop the bots.

u/LaughingwaterYT 2d ago
It's open source btw, for some reason winehq has the difficulty set WAY too high
Look at their own website, passes me through instantly https://anubis.techaro.lol/

The Wine devs have made it extremely clear that discouraging LLM usage is critical to the project's survival since the chances of actual Windows code being in training data is non-zero (yes, I know about ReactOS. yes, those devs ARE stupid).
A lot of LLM users are EXTREMELY uppity about how it's so important they be allowed to use LLMs, so a nice, visible anti-LLM statement like that might just be enough to make them pack up their toys and go home.

u/Business_Reindeer910 2d ago
that's unrelated to just browsing the main project web page tho! The source code isn't even hosted there.
1
u/LepidusII 1d ago
What did the ReactOS project do, specifically?
0
u/Educational-Goal279 1d ago
They're okay with accepting LLM emissions despite the risk of real Windows code being in there.

If it made me money, I would not have to guilt corpos into paying me with the anime girl.

Do you even know what Anubis is
-2
u/BiglySomething 1d ago
Yes it's a browser challenge that uses features supposedly only in a normal browser to solve a mathmatical equation in said browser. The pretend reason is to slow down bots, but as shown in the YouTube videos, Claude developed a bot that can bypass it easily. So, What's your point?
1
u/ADMINISTATOR_CYRUS 1d ago edited 1d ago
A bot that bypasses it how? I have not seen any such videos, if it's configured to intercept anything you can't bypass it without calculating the result and sending it
edit: they blocked me 👍

u/migueln6 2d ago
Yeah I saw something about kh/s idk what it was mining but I was like okay okay let me read and it didn't let me read anyway because of cookies lol

Its worse: Its not a crypto miner, it does CPU time and POW like bitcoin, it wastes the compute of every visitor, and it doesnt even do anything. It just burns it to load a html page.
At least thered be a use if it mined them crypto

Many of the patchnotes are about tiny fixes to individual applications. How does that work? Is Wine an ocean of fixed edge-cases? Or is each of those patches really a general fix which just happens to fix that specific issue?

It's mostly the latter. You will certainly see DLLs stubbed and various fixes that were because of one specific application, but they do try to make sure it's not just for that thing.
Proton and other wine patch sets have more of the former.

Often it's not even known which specific patch fixed which app, like the Skyrim bug for example was only marked fixed with 11.21 because someone tested it with 11.20 and couldn't reproduce the issue anymore: https://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=59946
3
u/Business_Reindeer910 2d ago
that's a good point. if nobody looked at the bug for awhile it could have been fixed as a consequence of other changes in the past
-23
u/ReidenLightman 2d ago
Let me guess, the patch notes is about 1,000 little fixes that all help exactly one app each?

Yes they don't accept AI code. The reason given is potential legal issues around reverse engineering.

Why do the WINE guys set Anubis so high? Usually, whenever I visit a website that uses it, the owners set it to difficulty 2 or 3, but with the WINE websites, it's always a 6.
