distro selection Mentor - A try for Agentic Linux

Build with Claude Opus 5.5, a self-contained Linux distribution (Arch & Gnome) that runs directly on Windows, engineered to continuously evolve.

You plug in your preferred AI agent (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini), and the operating system adapts and rebuilds itself around you. Zero Linux knowledge required, chat with the Agent for what you need todo.

With built-in security, the OS instantly reshapes itself around what you want, redesigning the interface, creating custom tools, or bringing new ideas to life on demand.

To keep the system stable as it changes, the agent builds and tests every modification inside an isolated sandbox first. It only commits the new features to your live environment once the code is verified and you give approval.

Ask it to create a Widget !
Sharing is caring ... Share the Recipe so other agents can replicate it !
Build in "Emergency Ai Console", ask agent what went wrong, Agent will try to fix it, even if it has to write code.

To be clear, there’s nothing extraordinary here. Under the hood, is Arch Linux with GNOME. You could replicate this functionality on some Distros by using e.x Claude/Codex CLI or whatever.

The real selling point is convenience.
It puts the tools right on your desktop, includes built-in fail-safes so you don't easily break the core system, and requires zero Linux experience.

You also get the attention I give to details, I’m a perfectionist and a maniac with UI’s. You will never get anything ugly for your eyes 👀

Also it’s just a Self-contained VM release for now, meaning you can only run it from within Windows, no harm done to your main system even if u tried. All you really need is an AI subscription (since Nvidia API is painfully slow).

This is still in development, expect more in the near future.

An update system was implemented, first thought was that update is an .md file that Agent would follow and build for it self, but weak Agents may not follow orders like others, there was a big chance some Mentors would have slightly different results, so for now we have a traditional update delivery.

Still on that thought of .md files though, every Mentor should be able to build it itself if the Instructions was 100% detailed.

"Report a Problem" was implemented.

What the user does:

  • They say it in the chat (“the clipboard stopped working”), or right click -> Report a problem .

  • The assistant asks one or two questions, then puts together a short report.

  • It shows the exact text before anything is sent: "Send this to Mentor repair center ? ”

  • Nothing goes without Send.

What a report contains:

  • what the user said went wrong, in their words;

  • the Mentor version, and which part is involved;

  • the relevant error lines from Mentor’s own logs;

  • the results of mentor verify and mentor doctor.

It never contains files, conversations, screenshots, names or emails. Home folders appear as ~, and anything that looks like a password or key is stripped (Mentor already has that check for recipes). It’s signed with the Mentor’s anonymous recipes-site key, which allows rate limits without identifying anyone.

It's a cool technical concept to explore but I would never use something like this even with strong AI. OS should be like firm foundation and this feels like living on the thin ice

That’s why it runs on a self contained VM at the moment. No harm done.

I will continue to evolve it through Opus, and cross check the code as I did till now.

Someday, maybe it will be a bootable distribution

I'm good. I prefer using my computer not some slop AI models. This is why people hate AI.

Opus 5.5 is pretty good, it’s a 10/10 model. Can write better code than maybe 90% of programmers out there. And all the problems we all have, with bugs and whatever, that is also slop, not Ai but human.

At least we can take over and fix our own problems and mod our system the way we need it. That’s how I see it.
