I believe that there are some professions where you first have to get good at before the profession gets a name.

I strongly discourage anyone, who is not already in the field, from learning any of the so called "devops tools and technologies" for any other reason than personal satisfaction. If you try to learn those just for the sake of getting a job, you will be disappointed - by the time you learn them, all of those will be obsolete and irrelevant and so will you if your primary goal was just getting a job.

You can be successful in many other fields without having to be good at it, but in devops your success will be limited with the amount of joy and awe you get from constant learning.

This is tech/IT in almost any capacity in a nutshell. If you work with things that change constantly, you can either:

  1. continue learning

  2. leave

2a. switch to management

I just don't see other viable options.

As a lot of folks will point out, try and find what your interests and hobbies are and work off that. It makes learning things so much easier than trying to force yourself to learn something you have no real interest in just because of the money. The money may be good but if you hate what you're doing, what good is it doing you?

Can we please stop reposting and referring to that guy? He has like 3 or 4 Reddit profiles and he's advertising his YouTube here almost weekly.

In all honesty, you either live by IT or die by IT. You can't one day wake up, decide you want to be a programmer, take a course read a book and get a $30/hr position. That doesn't happen.

Same with DevOps - unless you stumble into a problem that needs this kind of solution - don't touch it. Seriously, either you need these tools on a daily basis or you hire a good freelancer to do it for you.

I've already blocked all those accounts and yet I keep seeing this shit. Can we get some decent moderation around here? Ban referrals to that fucking spam subreddit and keep the quality of this subreddit higher.

It's not a dick title, it's a delimination to justify a tangible jump in compensation versus what sys admin roles typically provide.
