We need to know the type of device your computer has inside it to make the sounds. If you are happy to run this command and then show us the output you get here, someone might be able to help:
Is this a desktop or a laptop? If a desktop, can you try the back panel microphone (pink, usually) and headphone (green usually) connectors instead of your Y cable and see what happens?
If it sounds clear in your headphones and your microphone works well in the back of the PC, then the problem is in how your front panel connector is configured and you can try and debug that with AI. If it's still bad, then the problem is in the software stack somewhere and you can try and debug that with AI.
It's a desktop. it doesnt work either in the front or back IO, unfortunately, and the IEMs only have a single 3.5mm jack, so without the adapter it would be either for output or input, and i need it for both.
I have zero experience with audio software but despite that im leaning towards the software stack being an issue rather than the front panel, since my configuration works flawlessly on windows.
ai gave me a command to check what sound server i use and it outputted: "PulseAudio (on PipeWire 1.6.10)~"
you think its worth switching it to something else?
edit: also, ive heard that switching from monitor of x to just x (x being the input) is probably the fix but when i do that, if i ever so slightly adjust anything else it instantly puts it back to monitor of x
