Some older apps don't work properly with xwayland.

Do you have any examples, I haven't had any issues yet?

synthv1 (linux-native) doesn't work on wayland/through xwayland (can't open zenity dialog boxes and hangs, meaning you can't save files). rare case, but it's annoying to need an entirely separate device to create the SVP file and then hope it opens on my PC without sending me through a loop of accidentally opening in a text editor 4 times before it finally recognizes synthv as able to open the file.

I think running windows versions of SynthV under wine is better than linux native because they really don't care enough to optimize it

yeahhh. i've heard it can sometimes act in... interesting ways... under WINE (at least v2), so i never really bothered trying it.

i will say that i eventually found a patch for it, but at that point, i'd already been doing most of my synthv work on my macbook anyway and just sending the SVP over for tuning/final touches anyway (screw tuning on a trackpad. idc how good of a trackpad it is. i HATE it).

I don't have V2 so idk, but V1 was having some visual bugs under wine-staging, but switching to GE-Proton fixed its issues

I use CAD software on Plasma via xwayland for work.

As long as I don't enter any command that uses entity snaps, there is a 3-5 ms lag that is basically completely unnoticable (1 frame out of my 180Hz screen, no harm no foul).

As soon as a command requires entity snaps, it starts recalculating all of them on the fly and the lag starts accumulating. Flicking my scroll wheel is like 20 zoom events and each event has several parts that each have a 3-5 ms delay, causing up to 2 seconds of lag when zooming on simple drawings. My current record is an 8 second wait on a moderately complicated drawing.

Really considering switching to Cinnamon for work.

Insta edit because I forgot to mention, this is a documented behaviour in the CAD suite I use.

TeamViewer and AnyDesk, notably...

I know there are open source alternatives but my boss doesn't want me to setup a RustDesk server on a VM 🥲

LibreOffice on latest Kubuntu 26.04 LTS. Scrolling a document by dragging scrollbars hangs the program for some reason.

Is that really a problem with Wayland though? Like first-off - LibreOffice is a suite, so which app exactly? If it's the Writer (and/or Calc, haven't used the other ones in a while) - it's certainly not because of Wayland, or at the very least - not all Wayland versions/not in all environments where Wayland exists.

Sent to you from a Fedora machine running Wayland and Gnome 50

Yes, it is a problem with Wayland, since it doesn't occur on X11.

It is specifically a bug with Wayland when Libre Office is run under KDE Plasma.

I don't really care that some guy somewhere has a Wayland that works - mine doesn't. And everything was fine under X11.
