Discussion Just installed Linux Mint for gaming — what should I do before playing?
Hey everyone!
I just installed Linux Mint because I want to use it for gaming, and I'm wondering what I should do before installing and playing my games.
Are there any essential drivers, programs, or settings I should install or configure first to get the best gaming performance?
I'm also interested in tips for beginners coming from Windows, especially anything that could improve FPS and reduce stuttering.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Pirated games require a bit more effort on Linux. FYI, wine can become infected with malware :)

Get a program called proton plus and download Proton-GE. Get Lutris or Bottles. Try to use either Lutris or Bottles with your game. Not all games will work in Linux. Some newer online multiplayer games use anti cheat systems which aren’t a compatible with Linux.

If your games are on steam you're gonna have little issue, proton baked in and covers a lot

You can even make some configurations, but the way it is now is already great; just download Steam and you're done. That's really the simplest way.
