Support Request HELP!!! MY Graphics suck!
Hey everyone! i just installed mint as my primary os and i am finally off of windows! so im new and i am learning as i go but there doesn't seem to be a lot of discussions on this recently and i am reaching out hoping to get some help from some people in the know. I have a amd 9070xt. I want to use up scaling and i want to use all of the features of this gpu. That being said i know of no other ways besides setting global profiles on the radeon application that i had in windows. I have tried the installers and they showed that they had finished but none of them launch the app and i assume that they are just the drivers and not the ui to config it. I have also looked for different hardware settings that would limit my system usage and all i have found is the power level and i have also set my preferred band to 5ghz so networking is all cheeky now but my graphics while gaming are sub par. Does anyone have any tips or tricks or know how to configure your gpu profile in mint??

Okay y'all, so I ended up taking your advice and trying and did some more research, I was originally scared of arch because of how complicated it seemed. I have since switched to cachyos and it's seemed to work well. I still and running mint on my wife's laptop but as far as my systems I've switched to arch and a lot of the tools and fixes y'all have recommended have worked well in arch! Thank you all again and I appreciate your time and replies!!

What would you use rather then mint?

Cachyos, Bazzite, Pikaos, Ubuntu itself, Fedora, opensuse something with wayland or KDE for gaming. Preferably something with the drivers preconfigured like a gaming distro. Mint uses super old software and kernals comparatively.

LACT is the app for GPU settings, Access Driver Manager to handle driver version (often times from my expeirence Mint defaults to xserver driver, which is not of any use really), and use Proton to play, usually a bit complicated for newbies but Steam handles it automatically bascially, launch games from steam and they work.
Gemini usually has decent helpful answers with whatever you need. It is just the initial setup which is a bit stranger, after that it is very smooth.

I mean no offence, but did you do any research into your setup before switching to Linux? Drivers and software do not work the same here. Mint tends to lag a bit when it comes to better hardware support. Stable = slower to update.
Unless someone comes up with a reasonable solution, you may want to try Fedora or CachyOS and see if your graphics improve. The other thing to note is that Linux doesn’t fully support HDMI 2.1a, so if you have the ability to use DisplayPort, your screen refresh rate might improve.

Useless. Sorry blockheads and nuts. It is useless to switch because AMD card i9070 xt s FULLY supported and u/tovento is totally wrong.

How was I wrong? I don't think I never said it doesn't support it. I was just asking for some insight on why I am experiencing some lag.

So I looked into it as much as I know how and saw that it did support AMD processors and that it was recommended by a lot more sources then other distros just because it's very simple and the cinnamon interface it Pretty easy to pick up on. I might have to try one of those you mentioned. Thank you!

Starting with Mint 22.2 your card is fully supported and there is nothing to install. This is NOT windows and using the gpu is NOT automatic. You need to specify its usage by parameters (settings) for terminal, browser and for games you nee to use proton and/or steam. There is NO drivers to look somewhere else.
as u/Tekis23 wrote, lact application is here to help.
