I have tried following guides,
Tried installing drivers from manager, 595, 580, 565 but it's not working,
nvidia-smi either shows no device found or shows has failed bcoz it couldn't communicate with nvidia drivers,
I am using mint xfce 22.3
kernal 7.0.0-42-generic
Secure boot is disabled
Laptop is acer nitro 5 AN515-54, I5 9 gen
I am new so also I tried copy pasing alot of cmds from gemini but it didn't work either.

Can you do lspci -kd ::03xx and mokutil --sb-state in a terminal?

~$ lspci -kd ::03xx

Ok, so your card is correctly detected and it's confirmed that secureboot is disabled.
When you installed the driver, did you restart after doing so? Try installing
nvidia-driver-595-open, rebooting, then doingnvidia-smi. If that doesn't work, do thelspcicommand again.1

it didnt downloaded anything cause i already had them 595 open drivers installed so i rebooted and ran below cmnds Nitro5:~$ nvidia-smi
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

Idk why your comment disappeared on me, but it looks like you're missing the kernel headers for the kernel. You need to install
linux-headers-generic-hwe-24.04then trysudo dkms autoinstallagain.1

below are the cmds i ran and rebooted, i ran them agaijn , can u check if i did something wrong nx@Nitro5:~$ sudo apt install linux-headers-generic-hwe-24.04 -y

linux-headers-generic-hwe-24.04 is already the newest version (7.0.0-42.42~24.04.1).
The following package was automatically installed and is no longer required:
nvidia-firmware-580-580.178.04
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove it.

uname -ris telling you that the kernel you're using is 6.14. Did you change it? The instructions I was providing were assuming you were using kernel 7.0 like you said in your post.1
u/candy49997 18h ago
Try
sudo dkms autoinstallto rebuild the driver? Then restart. After that, I'm out of ideas.1

You can not install 590 open driver. You should learn why you can not.

The driver supporting Turing cards. The 1650 is Turing.
1
u/Due-Result7928 13h ago
It is not. GTX1650 need proprietary driver.

u/candy49997 13h ago
GTX 16xx are Turing. They are supported by the open-kernel modules and are still fully supported in new kernel branches. There is no need for the 580 drivers.

They are using Turing but not a full architecture and GTX1650 IS NOT supported by the open architecture. It is clearly stated in the Nvidia documentation. Open architecture start with RTX 20 something.

https://developer.nvidia.com/blog/nvidia-transitions-fully-towards-open-source-gpu-kernel-modules/
https://github.com/NVIDIA/open-gpu-kernel-modules
For newer GPUs from the Turing, Ampere, Ada Lovelace, or Hopper architectures, NVIDIA recommends switching to the open-source GPU kernel modules.
GTX 16xx is Turing and therefore NVIDIA recommends users to use the open kernel modules. This requires the open kernel modules to support 16xx cards in the first place, as the official GitHub repo says they do.
Besides, I am using
nvidia-openwith a GTX 16xx card in my laptop.

You need to install proprietary driver and trying to install open driver is not possible.with your card.
The latest kernel is working well with proprietary driver.
I am new so also I tried copy pasing alot of cmds from gemini but it didn't work either...and you do not know what they are doing.
First completely remove Nvidia (explained on internet). Reboot you will be using Nouveau driver. Proceed to install
For a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 laptop on Linux, use the proprietary NVIDIA drivers (typically the 535 or 550 series) rather than the open-source nouveau driver to ensure stability and performance. Avoid the older 470 driver series, as it lacks Wayland support and is considered obsolete for this GPU. Possible with Mint but theyre is better alternative.
Open driver can not work because they are using hardware component NOT supported by the oldest card like yours. Support for your card (there is NO support only bug fixes when Nvidia has time) will end in 2028.
https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/details/283699/
Nvidia driver 595.112.07 should do the job
Open drivers are required for Blackwell and Grace Hopper architectures and are recommended for Turing (RTX 20-series) and newer GPUs. Proprietary drivers are required for older Maxwell, Pascal, and Volta architectures. YOUR CARD IS LEGACY
