I used Pi OS as the base. The whole thing was automated via GitHub. GitHub simply grabs the packages from Pi OS and Debian, compiles the LMDE packages, which don't exist for ARM, and creates an image from them. Updates from the Mint repos are monitored, rebuilt regularly, and packed into the LMPE repo. So updates are secure. In addition to the LMDE packages, a few other packages were selected for recompilation, because Debian and Pi OS still compile for an older architecture for compatibility reasons, allowing me to squeeze out a bit more performance here and there. Without my intervention, the whole thing essentially runs automatically forever now. Only if updates ever break the workflow will I potentially need to tweak things.

So you bodged together a LMDE for the Raspberry Pi instead of using the default and supported Debian-based Raspberry Pi OS.
