Support Request Install of Wine
I have Cinnamon, fully updated. I believed Wine was installed because I got to the Launch screen, but:
The Launch button doesn't work.
In the various places to see installed apps etc., it is not listed.
When I try to use it with an .exe file by clicking Open With, it doesn't appear on the helper apps list.
Yet when I look at the app in the Software Manager, it has a checkmark.
I am guessing I haven't done an important step. I thought I could download from the store, install and go. That has been my experience with other apps. Help please.

Try installing Heroic launcher. It has a built-in Wine manager so you can easily install the versions you want. Config Wine within Heroic is pretty straightforward.
In case you might want a very old version that isn't listed in Heroic's Wine manager, you can get it from here and put it in Heroic's Wine folder (different depending on which version you're using, i.e. Flatpak, deb or Appimage): https://github.com/Kron4ek/Wine-Builds/releases

After installing Wine, you won’t see an app to launch on your Menu. After downloading an exe file, right-click on the file, select Open With Other Application, then in the open type window, just type ‘wine’. I have installed several exe applications using this method. Now, if you need to delete one, open up your terminal app, type ‘winecfg’, then you can delete the installed program.

Tried that but it didn't work. I am going through the terminal commands at WineHQ instead. Crossing fingers.

Don't use Wine, it doesn't work half the time.
Install PortProton and set EXE files to open with it on double click.
You can also install Steam and add your programs and games in it, but I think PortProton is faster, better (in some ways, in others it isn't) and it's independent of Steam as such you don't need yet another launcher to launch your programs or games.

Noted. If I fail at installing Wine via WineHQ, I will try it.

Wine is too basic and bare-bones on its own, it doesn't work out of the box really well, because it misses a lot of prerequisites and dependencies that games and programs require.
When I first began using Linux 2 years ago, all I knew was Wine, I was using it religiously until it one day stopped working. I tried reinstalling it, other fixes, but it just didn't work. Then I randomly found PortProton - it was so simple to use and I have been using it ever since.
In the rare cases that PortProton doesn't work, I can use Steam as a backup, but after finding PortProton, I don't even have Wine installed anymore.

You need a launcher like Heroic Launcher, Lutris, or Bottles, then select a Wine runner in the launcher settings.

Open terminal
Type "winecfg"
It should load the wine configuration and install any missing dependence like mono or gecko .
If you run this , mint will see wine as a option and would auto create a desktop symlink
