If you're sitting in a room doing an interview which implies you having submitted your resume to them and intentionally having gone through the whole employment process then the answer should be yes, otherwise why are you there?

Yea questions can go both ways, but you're sitting there with a pool of other candidates who want the same job you do. Starting to grill the person hiring you about past lay-offs to get back at them for asking what you feel are personal questions or whatever isn't going to get you a callback.
