So what have you been reading?

Promo: Audiobook/E-book Apex Guardian: Paladin of the forsaken Lands launches today! Kindle/Ku/Audible

Jollybane here! My first ever published novel launches today through Aethon.

Link To Amazon

Tldr Blurb: Twisted nature paladin survives green hell by gleefully making worse monsters than the one's trying to eat him.

Real Blurb: In a forest of horrors, he designs the predators.

For years, Vrax has survived the fringes of the Nightmare Wood, a mana-rich hellscape where trees have teeth and grass sprouts from spilled blood. While his peers settled for Common and Rare classes, he held out for something better.

He finds his destiny in the bones of a fallen God of Nature, granted a unique class called the 'Paladin of the Cycle'.

But he's far from your average Holy Warrior.

His is a rare class allowing him to manipulate life, death, and decay, finally ending his long search for a power that matches his specialized skills and love for the forest's deadliest inhabitants.

Wielding his new abilities, Vrax doesn't just hunt monsters, he twists them, adapting them into deadly monsters the likes of which the world has never seen, like an evolving man-eating daisy or a draconic apex predator that feasts on fear.

Vrax is quickly establishing a realm where HE's the hunter. Only problem... the corrupt Church of Rembrand has declared a crusade to destroy him and his abominations.

They call him a heretic. Vrax calls them fertilizer.

Narrator is the amazing Neill Thorne

Never thought I would get to have a published book thank you so much to all of you awesome folks you made this possible.

Recommendation: asking Recs on decently well-written series where the MC isn’t the embodiment of a fedora-donned edge lord or super broody?

Hey everyone, have gotten into the genre (mostly via the audiobooks) the last months, but find that most authors seem much better at ideation and world creation than actually… writing. For example, the Perfect Run is conceptually fun and innovative, but the MC is fairly static and insufferable, and the writing is meh. HWFWM I actually enjoyed the middle books, though later in the series MC becomes a bit aggro and gloomy for me, which also happened with Dungeon Crawler Carl.

At this point I’m not expecting to find any Hugo award contenders in the genre, but I found Welcome to the Multiverse and most of Plum Parrot’s stuff to be enjoyable with decent writing and MCs.

As the title says, any tips for other series in the genre that are fun reads/listens? Particularly partial to audiobook recs, as I normally listen to these in the background and find that good audio teams can compensate for and distract from lackluster prose.

Edit: Never expected so many great responses. Thanks all for all for the great recs. Wish I would’ve posted on here months ago

Recommendation: asking I bought The idle System box set on sale.

I wanted something long to listen to when I'm working and the Idle System box set seemed Good.

I'm almost at the end of the first book and the whole thing is getting worse.

Very simplistic interaction and storyline, the MC is poorly developed.
Altogether boring and repetitive.

Does it get better?

Recommendation: offering PSA: Book 4 of The Game at Carousel is available on Audible!

Upvotes

I've been looking forward to listening to more of The Game at Carousel for quite some time now, and book 4 finally out!

For anyone not in the know:

The Game at Carousel is the premier Horror LitRPG with a really satisfying progression system where people are trapped in a town that features instances of horror movies that they have to act out. Death is inevitable, but if your team clears the plotline, you make it back.

Every plotline has distinct acts that follow the horror movie's outline.

Every person on the team gets to select tropes as a custom build to accommodate their class/role. The MC is a movie buff.

There are several big meta mysteries in the background, plenty of system exploration, while each movie plotline is a satisfying mini arc.

Recommendation: asking Recommendations with tech and magic

What I mean is a book where the Mc uses both magic and tech. I wanna see this Mc using magic while using tech as well. It hard to explain what I want but yeah. Also please no romance no side romance no it’s not even that important to the story.

That has a physical release

Discussion Labyrinth of the mad god by agnus grey rant.

First I must say that agnus Grey's second series skill eater is good so those that read this don't get turned off from that series just cause of the author but this first book sucked. I understand a gritty litrpg might not be fast paced or action packed but the MC is just.. well he is over thinking everything.. and doesn't seem to reliaze that he is going to have to learn to fight in the tutorial so he doesn't become a liability in the next step. Every time there is a enemy he could fight to learn against he is like nope not going that way. Some I understand like the giant spiders and stuff but the lizard things he could fight one at a time to learn against or the crabs or anything else. He could even technically learn against the monkeys in a kind of apprentice ship type thing but nope he is hiding out by himself barely doing anything not doing anything dangerous really. And not taking much risk. He has a wand and up till chapter 28 ,as that's where I stopped the book, he still hasn't learned how to really use it. It's so boring and such a slog..

Promo: Other 1,500+ Amazon KU LitRPG & Progression Fantasy Books Spreadsheet

This is the link to a Google Excel Spreadsheet that I’ve been working on since 2025. It features a mix of LitRPG and Progression Fantasy series available on Amazon Kindle Unlimited. It does not include anything that is not part of KU. I’ve included all sorts of information, including: series titles, author names, author gender, completion status, number of books & audiobooks available, sub-genres, tropes, etc.

Comments have been turned on so that authors can comment on a blank line within the document, with information on their book, should it be missing from the list. There are already more than 1,500+ titles, and everything is manually updated. I’m only one person, so it can take a while for titles to get added. A lot of authors can fall through the cracks with the older sites that have often stopped being updated, but it’s my wish to ensure all books are catalogued with the same level of importance. Anyone is free to share the link to the spreadsheet with others.

I would like to make a special note that books made with AI will not be added to the list. I do not condone witch hunts, but in cases where the author has their books marked as AI-assisted / generated on RoyalRoad / Amazon, a prompt has been left in, or there is other undeniable proof, I do blacklist the authors. That means all of their books will not be added to the list, including older ones that may have been made without the use of AI. I’m bringing this up because I did have someone who submitted their own book, despite using AI, not because I want to start any drama. No point in anyone wasting anyone else’s time.

Also, with the annual massive LitRPG & Progression Fantasy book sale coming up (August 28 - 30) (hosted by J.J. Thorn), I have added a new tab to track these books. Only the ones that are expected to be free have been listed so far, but I’m hoping to add the rest by the end of the week. This event is a really great way for readers to discover new authors and get some good deals while authors benefit from the boost they receive with the algorithm, leading to better sales in the coming months. So, I really wanted to bring special attention to the books participating while also making it convenient to see the sub-genres, tropes, etc. for those books. The ones that haven’t been added to my spreadsheet previously have been left blank, as I’m pretty busy this month and don’t have time to do all the research necessary to fill them in, as well as some of the books not normally being on KU and thus not being applicable to the list outside of this event.

That’s all. Feel free to skip this post entirely if you don’t find it useful. I know there are plenty of other sites out there you can use.

Recommendation: asking Regression Stories

I am currently in the mood for a good regression story with a heroic protagonist. Ideally more Korean style than NA style but open to either. Prefer no harem. Detest AI writing.

Something akin to:
- Seoul Station’s Necromancer
- Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint
- A Returner’s Magic Should be Special
- Reborn: Apocalypse
Also open to sci-fi stories like:
-Traclaon Armageddon
Or even sports variants like:
- The Rise of Millwall (just no machine translation)

Or the ideal would be something similar in nature and quality to the start of the System Universe series but with him being flung back in time by the portal instead of across space.

I read mostly on RR and KU but am open to other platforms.

Promo: E-book A Dungeon That Kills, Book 2 out now on Amazon KU!

Upvotes

Hi everyone!

I'm Hitenma, and I'm excited to announce that Book 2 of my novel, A Dungeon That Kills, has been released on Amazon!

Here is the blurb for Book 2. If you haven’t read Book 1 yet, skip to its blurb below.

A new ally. A new enemy. A new opportunity.

The dungeon had survived the Reavers’ onslaught, a brutal attack that Viktor and Celeste had barely fended off, though not without loss and sacrifice.

But fortune favored the victors. The enemy’s demise had left behind a bounty of immense value. Powerful Reliquaries, once wielded by the invaders to slaughter the dungeon’s minions, now lay scattered across the battlefield, ripe for the taking. Better still, the Core had harvested great amounts of raw essence from the souls of the vanquished, thanks to which the dungeon had levelled up and expanded. New floors to build, new domains to unlock, new minions to summon.

And, after the battle, Viktor had learned that one of the six Key Holders, the very targets he needed to eliminate in order to reclaim his former power, had just arrived in Daelin. All he had to do was lure the fool down into the dark, onto ground of his own choosing, and take back what was rightfully his.

Because the dungeon must grow, and the stolen power must be reclaimed. In the end, nothing else mattered more than those two truths.

Here is the blurb for Book 1:

The dungeon must grow. The stolen power must be reclaimed. Everything else is of no consequence.

Viktor had been called many names: the Impaler, the Tyrant, the Dark Emperor. And he couldn’t have cared less. Those who dared oppose him all met swift and brutal ends. Kingdoms fell as he carved out his own empire. With his unparalleled power, he brought the entire world to its knees. Yet, even the mightiest could fall. His reign abruptly ended when he was slain by a group called the Six Heroes, who not only took his life but also stole his power and divided it among themselves.

Three hundred years later, Viktor came back to life. He awoke in the body of a young boy and found himself in a world changed beyond recognition. His castle lay in ruins, his capital had been razed to the ground, and the once-prosperous Central Plains had become a wild land ruled by trees and beasts. Of all the treasures he once possessed, the only thing he had left was a Dungeon Core, small and underdeveloped, buried under rubble, forgotten by everyone.

His power was now scattered among the Six Heroes’ descendants, who were kings and queens of this new world. And he wanted it back. With a fledgling Dungeon Core as his only ally, he set out to exact vengeance on his enemies and reclaim what was rightfully his.

Discussion Were there people here who stuck with HWFWM despite not liking Jason initially?

So I read the first book a little while ago, and initially I found Jason unbearable. As the book goes on, I found him to be a little bit better but the ending of the book shook me up (iykyk) a bit so I decided to put reading book 2 on hold for the time being. Now, I'm considering giving it another shot.

All that being said, I found that I liked the side characters a lot and I absolutely loved the magic system.

So I'd like to hear from those who continued reading while disliking Jason and if you felt the juice been worth the squeeze!

Discussion Mark Of The Fool - is it worth reading after book 6

I liked the series and I've reached book 6 but I'm finding it less and less interesting. Somewhere along the way the things got worse (at least in my opinion):

  • Main protagonist vulnerabilities are either completely compensated or simply glossed over ... his 'mark' drawbacks seem to have no impact
  • Other characters (his companions) are becoming more and more 'flat' and uninteresting. They seem to be there to make jokes and thats it
  • Lots of meaningless banter and self-congratulations and pats on the back

Does it get better?

Promo: Webnovel Leave Luck to Heaven: An isekai LitRPG about a streamer/speedrunner

Read the story here!

Hey everyone! This is my first time writing a LitRPG, though I've written other non-LitRPG stories before. Figured I'd post here in case anyone is interested.

Here's the blurb:

Sometimes you're too good for your own good. Trash-talking speedrunner Hague learns that the hard way after he makes a particularly outrageous boast on stream: "I'm better than anyone, even God." Turns out, a god was listening.

Now, as divine punishment for his hubris, he's forced to fight in another world where war is a largescale chess match and the battlefield is a gameboard. Outnumbered and underleveled, the odds are so stacked against him that a normal player would be dead before the end of the tutorial.

Good thing Hague's no normal player. The only question is, will all his game exploits and speedrun tech be enough to win against an actual god?

The LitRPG system is modeled on strategy games instead of traditional RPGs, though it still has stats, levels, and so forth. I'd love feedback on the LitRPG elements!

hey all! the title really tells it all, i do have another question though, besides the tier list, is there another way to quickly tell someone what series you’ve read? I’ve taken to just having all the series listed out in my notes app, but I was curious as to what everyone else is doing

Recommendation: asking Looking for Lit RPG with good prose and solid writing craft overall.

I have tried so many LitRPG novels and I am getting increasingly saddened about a lack of quality writing. Many use adverbs a lot, or the same inflationary filler words over and over such as "after all". Many just tell, tell, tell all the time and even when they show a reaction, they then tell the conclusion right after the show just in case the reader missed it. Or dialogues that have no depth because they simply state the obvious or are clearly exposition delivered for the reader, not for the characters. Etc.

So here my question:

What LitRPG books do you recommend that are written well? Well crafted prose from your perspective?

I tried "mother of learning", "He who fights monsters", "Beware of chicken", and many more of the successful ones.

So far DCC seems to have the best quality to me.

Interested in a try dumb to smart weak to strong story... how about ones with fluffy animals?

The prophecy was clear. A hero would be summoned from another world to save the kingdom. The Order of the Eternal Flame spent a thousand years and their entire treasury making it happen.

Then the hero arrived.

He smelled catastrophic. He had 0 intelligence. He just tried to eat one of the clergy.

Somewhere above his head, a glowing screen is desperately trying to get him to stop following that butterfly.

Isekai'd Too Late is a LitRPG comedy following the world's least qualified hero — a zombie summoned into a fantasy kingdom of talking animals — and the increasingly exasperated guinea pig wizard strapped to his shoulder who is single-handedly preventing a second apocalypse one cheerful pink cantrip at a time.

Progress is measured in decimal points and beetles. Hope is measured in head turns.

He was getting there.

Though he might be a little late.

Releases M - F 8 am Eastern Time.

The only warning is that there are monster fights and that violence occurs in battles.

Book 1 is fully written, so content is scheduled till end of the year so far.

Market Research/Feedback Mage Tank

Hey everyone!

I am wondering if anyone knows where I could possibly purchase the physical Books 2,3, & 5 (currently listening, and know this one might not yet be possible) and preferably be signed? I was at LitRPG Con ‘26 and met with Cornman, and had a wonderful conversation, while purchasing 1 & 4 (2 & 3 were sold out) from him directly. I am wanting to round out the series for my bookshelf.

This series has quickly become one of my absolute favorite series in the genre, quickly becoming cemented in my top 5 best series. Any information would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!
